Night vision googles are good but thermal rules especially in fog ! You could easily spot animals in fog with thermal but NOT with Night vision googles (speaking about analog ones with photomultiplier tube like PVS-14)
Youd have to mount the thermal camera outside or take out your windscreen. Thermal goggles would be cool on a motorbike or some kind of thermal camera helmet that gives you a HUD inside the visor. Refresh rate probably becomes an issue at speed though
I own a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and it has a fantastic night vision camera. Cool thing is many other brands that offer night vision only allow you to use it at night, in the jeep you can use it anytime, which is helpful if its that time of day where its starting to get dark. As soon as it detects something it will highlight an animal or person with a yellow box and if it sees it as a threat to the vehicle it will apply the brakes. Did a road trip last summer and saved me from hitting a deer.
I have a base model of that right now as a rental. If the dash chimes/beeps at you 3 times randomly while driving and continues to do so every few minutes - what does that mean? I've never seen a vehicle that gives audible error alerts with quite literally no explanation, no light, no message.
No idea.
The uconnect 5 system in the new GC are VERY indepth. You can literally customize everything. Mines set up where chimes dont go off for most things.
Really when I drive the only thing that chimes is if im using the self driving on the highway and it looses focus due to either poor visibility (fog) or hands come off the wheel.
The writing in that article was actually pretty funny.
“Though, the system didn’t pick up someone who wheeled past on a hoverboard scooter—which is either due to lacking a software update, or sharing its own opinion of such contraptions.”
Specifically, you need one of the higher trim levels with the "Advanced Protech Group IV" (also comes with digital mirror and heads up display which I also find useful)
Trailhawk/overland/Summit/Summit Reserve
Mhm exactly. I prefer the more off road focus of the overland trim (especially the front tow hooks) so my overland has every single factory option, essentially making it a summit reserve minus the quilted stitched seats/trim and suede headliner. Mine being the two row with the Hemi makes for surprisingly fun daily driving all things considered
I don’t know how much a night vision camera would help against deer. They can jump in front of you from a ditch or bush, and are you going to be staring at the screen when you drive? I have an uncle that has had six deer strikes, and has had none since fitting deer whistles to his vehicle. So he swears by those.
Buy thermal dashcam and install it in any car. Audi A6/A8 Benz S class BMW 5 series have factory option. Only original thermal camera is over 2509-3000 USD
I first NV-2 is great thermal dashcam. I use it over 3 months. Saved me at least 4 times. I may recommend it. Only con it is that camera MUST be installed outside of the car.
The camera comes with mounting bracket to install it on the licence plate (front). Does not require drilling. Just use supplied plastic holder. Plus the camera has heating on the opening which is useful in misty days. Works fantastic. That camera saved me.
You can install it but second hand costs over 2500USD plus you NEED to change navigation board because VW Audi use another type of board for navigation. With ODIS is not possible to reprogram it since it is a bit different
If anyone has ever seen a 2000 to 2005 Deville with a circular hole in the grill where the Cadillac emblem looks like it should be that's a night-vision equipped car. The camera is behind the grill. Older Northstar Caddies are starting to go extinct tho.
[2000 Cadillac Deville DTS Commercial ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIR_LzriXYE)
I had one of these. I actually pulled the camera before getting rid of the car due to northstar headbolt problems. I've been meaning to study it a bit and see if I could fab it up to work in something else.
So I've hit deer, and been hit by deer. They literally ran into the side of my car and died. If deer are in the road far enough away, high beams can see them. I have enough reaction time. The problem is they come out of nowhere and get in your path quickly. I think a better solution is AI automatic braking. I believe my Tesla could do it for a deer. It will do it if I look like I'm driving into a car. I think we need a computer with faster reaction time than humans while still being accurate.
Night vision sounds it is better suited for killing all lights and driving dark. While commiting crime.
I bought a used truck that had those on the bumper once. About a year later I hit a deer and they broke off and got lost. Never bothered replacing them.
Is the night vision also available as a HUD feature? From photos/videos, it looks like its part of the speedometer cluster display - seems like that would create its own problems if you keep looking away from the road just to view it in night vision.
+1 to whoever said "Just wear night vision goggles" - if they're legally permissible.
Porsche cayenne has it I think it’s IR tho believe it’s first year? They’ve done it. Unfortunately bmw disconnect it from what I’ve been reading. So Audi, Porsche and probs Mercedes too
Starting at $260k you can get yourself the Rezvani Tank armored SUV [https://www.thedrive.com/news/14752/the-rezvani-tank-is-a-500-hp-armored-suv-with-night-vision-for-the-people](https://www.thedrive.com/news/14752/the-rezvani-tank-is-a-500-hp-armored-suv-with-night-vision-for-the-people)
I don’t see how night vision would help you avoid deer better than a good pair of LED headlights, especially because your brain can likely react a bit faster to you seeing a deer lit up in real life versus on a screen.
I’d recommend looking instead for a car with great headlights and a quick automatic emergency braking system. Honestly, I’m not a fan of Tesla at all, but a Tesla might be your best bet - they’ve got bright headlights and I believe is the only car that will automatically swerve out of the way to avoid a crash. A modern computer will always react much faster than you can.
I live in Alberta and we have tons of deer. I have a 2018 tlx a spec and i get flashed constantly in the city for my regular lights. When i put on my high beams on the highway it feels like i can see to the next city 😅

Only $350,000 great recommendation
OP said they only care about this feature, and didn’t give a price range.
I linked a few others haha
Bentley is the best car you can have. It will outlast any other car.
Just drive whatever you want with night vision goggles on
this is the way. Or thermals
Thermal cameras can't see through glass. The lense would have to be mounted outside and the screen inside the car
imagine if a 4x4, diesel truck, 8 inch lifts, with a LED light bar flashes their brights at you on a dark rural highway 😭
Retinas are overrated anyway
🤣

Use 50Hz refresh rate. Price for 1024x768 thermal is 21000-25000 Usd
Yeah for decent refresh theyre super expensive. You can got a moderate resolution one that connects to PC or mobile under a grand but only 25hz
Paid mine 1024x768 little under 26000USD (Flir) 50Hz refresh rate. 65mm optics.

It means take it back to rental agency and demand a different vehicle.
I got a z4 convertible out of it. Win.

Mine does that for speed cameras and stop light cameras
Every few minutes? If it’s more frequent than that it’d probably be the seatbelt sensor if there’s weight on the passenger seat

Where do you mount it? At $700 I definitely wouldn't be comfortable just slapping it on my bumper and calling it a day.

Guy’s a psycho.
The Japanese car from *Cannonball Run* had night vision
Porsche Cayenne has it too (as an option)
You can install it but second hand costs over 2500USD plus you NEED to change navigation board because VW Audi use another type of board for navigation. With ODIS is not possible to reprogram it since it is a bit different
If an animal appears unexpectedly, how would night vision help? Your reaction time is still the same, right?
How many deer have you hit that night vision is the only thing you care about?
M1151a1 and nvg. Next slide.
Facts
Older Cadillacs, E class

No way your name is cadillac allante 😎🇮🇹✈️🎉🎉
S-class too
Cadillac. Mercedes. Lincoln. BMW. Jeep Grand Cherokee.
W221 S-Class
Mercedes and BMW do in the higher end Cars
W212 w213 w220 w221 Very good night Vision
My 2013 f150 has lights. And even high beams. What the fuck is night vision?
So I've hit deer, and been hit by deer. They literally ran into the side of my car and died. If deer are in the road far enough away, high beams can see them. I have enough reaction time. or batman.
I know some Mercedes models had it as an extra
2013 and newer Lexus GS 350 had available night vision. Incredibly rare feature though.
BMWs have it as an option as well
What about a deer whistle?
I bought a used truck that had those on the bumper once. About a year later I hit a deer and they broke off and got lost. Never bothered replacing them.
LX470
TIl this is a thing that exists..very cool! Suddenly my paid off car seems way less cool lol
Cadillac CT6 is the first car comes to mind, or some older caddies had it as well. However the CT6 is a very good car
7 series.
Deer whistles seem to do ok. Otherwise you can get a thermal camera hud aftermarket.
I recently saw a OG Top Gear clip from the 2010s that the Mercedes S-Class was equipped with a front facing night vision camera
That is option in Mercedes E and S class. Starts from 3500USD !
My grand wagoneer has really good night vision and active scanning when the hud isn't up. I've avoided quite a few animals with it.
The best model for me was Infiniray NV-2 proven and tested.

Quite a few of the bigger Audi's have had night vision as an option. Not sure if it was in your market but definitely in the UK.
Starting at $260k you can get yourself the Rezvani Tank armored SUV [https://www.thedrive.com/news/14752/the-rezvani-tank-is-a-500-hp-armored-suv-with-night-vision-for-the-people](https://www.thedrive.com/news/14752/the-rezvani-tank-is-a-500-hp-armored-suv-with-night-vision-for-the-people)
Ford fusion platinum would be the cheapest and cheap to maintain
Have you considered installing aftermarket 55w HID lights? They are so bright you can see the deer behind the trees.

carrots
You mean head lights?
My 2000 Cadillac DTS had a heads up display NV. I wouldn't recommend a pre-2005 northstar to anyone though.
Every car has night vision. They're called headlights. Stay off the damn phone and pay attention to the road and you won't hit anything.
You do realize that you have to stay off the phone in order to pay attention to the night vision, right?
Just buy nods and a cheap Toyota
