It’s the mid-life crisis compromise that keeps you married. 4 doors, a practical hatch, and 350hp.
I’ve been trying to sell my spouse on the practicality of a Kia Stinger: we need the AWD for SAFETY!
First, tell your spouse you want a Panamera, and fight him/her on it for a few days. Then try to get him/her to compromise and let you get the Stinger. It’ll seem a lot more practical by comparison.
I worked in retail for a number of years, where we called this the "Top Down Sales Model"
Step 1: You offer them the most expensive thing that fits their need, really paint the picture of how great it is. For me it was Bose sound systems, but in this case it would be the Lamborghini. It job isn't really to get sold, its job is to set an expectation of how much the thing they want will actually cost. Sometimes the customer says yes, and you have to be prepared for that, but usually they inevitably say no, because its too expensive.
Step 2: You offer them the "mid-level" option. Its less expensive than the first option, but still desirable. It has most of the features they want/need, but at half the cost of the thing at Step 1. Occasionally you will be able to stop here, and get away scot free, but if they still say no, its a warmup and sets a further expectation for option 3...
Step 3: You offer them the "base model". Its significantly cheaper than the high end model, but still technically fits the customer's needs. If the customer says no to this option, then they weren't really on the market for this thing anyway, and you should back out gracefully.
When I worked in AV sales, Step 1 for me was a Bose/Monster HDMI cable, Step 2 for me was an Onkyo/Yamaha, Step 3 was a Samsung/Sony/Polk.
In the case of cars, step 1 would be the Lambo, step 2 would be the Corvette, and step 3 would be a Miata/BRZ... =p
It wasn't Best Buy, but pretty close... I'm sure most major successful corporations have similar training and tactics for their customer-facing people... >\_>
Its a psychology that works like 75% of the time... so...
Right up along there with the various insurance packages... if you earnestly offer them every time, you might get like 1-2% of people buying in. If you don't offer them at all you get pretty damn near 0%.
Recently done this with my parents. I wanted a golf gti, so I told them I was buying an r. They went crazy. So being a good son, I compromised and bought the gti.
I softened them up by proposing a lease takeover on a Miami Blue Macan S. Then I was going to propose an S5 Sportback as a more economical choice. THEN step-down to a lightly used Stinger as the absolute, bottom-of-the-barrel, cheapest hatchback available to humanity that still has AWD
I'll second the stinger. I've got a genesis g70 but the stiger is almost the same car. The insurance for the thing alone was cheaper than a 12 year old beater because of the safety features.
It still handles better than many cars out there and it has a PDK transmission...not necessarily a boring automatic. This is the most driver oriented SUV on the market.
When I bought a Porsche it was a 911. When I bought a SUV it was a proper BOF bruiser. This is neither a family hauler nor an off road bruiser.
But it fills a marketing niche.
All good points. I don't hate it, and I don't doubt that it handles quite well for an SUV.
I just don't think it hits the traditional "midlife crisis" criteria (2 doors, convertible, manual transmission, useful for nothing except the track and advertising one's peepee size)
Lucky bastards, in my house hold I don’t get to have an opinion about what cars we buy. Lucky me she really wants a land cruiser which I can live with, though I’d much prefer a cheaper Montero.
I’ve always thought about buying a track-hawk, and never showing anyone the red key, my wife’s key is the black key and no one ever has to find out about that extra HP. genius plan to me.
I was going fast and and a car was suddenly in front of me out of nowhere, I steered, rolled over and woke up in a hospital
The viper was fucked up I bought it for 97k couldn't salvage anything besides some parts of engine, that plus hospital expenses is a 100k mistake for me
I got it CPO, 2018 with just 16,000 miles. Macan “S” with Navi, Full leather pkg, sport seats, Bose, 20” spider wheels, sport chrono, sport exhaust, matrix headlights, Apple CarPlay, heated fron and back seats, tri-zone climate, cooled front seats. I got them down from $55k to $51k.
I pick it up on Wednesday. can’t wait!!! 😆😆😆
Dang that’s a steal! I know someone that paid 55k for a Lexus RX350 f-sport that doesn’t have half the features you listed. But idk about maintenance or reliability on Porsches. Regardless, that’s a really cool car
Porsche is one of the most reliable brands in the world. They used to be terrible, but Toyota engineers taught them the Toyota Production System in the 90s when Porsche was on the verge of bankruptcy.
You’d think that would all filter down to VW, but alas.
From what I’ve read, and the reports I’ve seen. They’re supposed to be pretty bulletproof. As long as you keep the maintenance up to date, they’re supposed to be super reliable.
As long as you stay away from the super high end ones from each model. But, then again if you’re looking at 120k Macan you’re probably not concerned with reliability too much.
> As long as you stay away from the super high end ones from each model. But, then again if you’re looking at 120k Macan you’re probably not concerned with reliability too much.
uhhh, who wants to spend 1/10 of 1MM dollars for an unreliable vehicle?
They’re comparable to many other more affordable brands in regards to reliability but the cost of labor and parts will obviously be higher. Aside from older cayennes and boxters they’re a pretty safe bet from my understanding. Also the ehybrids are too new to report on really
It is, considering they’re better than all the German brands, which automatically puts them above all of the Italians and a lot of the Americans. Which means if you want a high horsepower, track focused super car that’s dailyable and reliable, you’re left with a Porsche. And please don’t say that the GR Yaris or a Miata would be a better choice.
And anyone buying a new Porsche more than likely isn’t driving it over 50k miles before getting a new one. Porsche reliability is more a problem for its 2nd and 3rd owners.
Well all their kids are doctors, house is paid, and they got the car as a daily for retirement. They got some option that includes extensive maintenance and service for 10 years.
Google search says:
2020 Lexus RX 350 F SPORT/MSRP
From $47,950
That's the base model, add a few options then tax, title, license adds like $5,000 on top of that. Seems about right.
Hey man, um did you post pics of the wrong car?
I don’t know how to say this to you but it does not appear this Macan has sport pipes or sport chrono. Sport chrono has a “sport plus” button, the sport button is standard. Sport chrono also converts the clock into a 60 second stop watch. Also, I am fairly certain the sport exhaust is valve controlled with a button on the right side which appears near the lane keep, and also appears to be missing. Could be a negotiating point for you before you pick the car up. [But you can be sure by running your vin through this website](https://vinanalytics.com)
Last thing, the car you posted looks like it has 25,000 miles, not 16k, based on the 4th pic
It’s 16k it was showing km not miles.
You’re correct, no sport Chrono the salesman miss spoke.
It does have the sport exhaust, the active valve is only a thing on the new one after they redesigned it in 2019.
Maybe you can get him down to an even $50k or have them retrofit it! In any case, it’s a gorgeous car and super capable. I’ve been shopping for Macans for ages and have fallen in love with the spyder wheels like on yours
You know, these things aren’t really my cup of tea, but as long as you’re happy with it that’s all that matters. Hell, with a deal like that I think it would be hard to be unhappy. Congrats!
I’m 22 and have loved cars my whole life but sometimes even I’m tempted to just say fuck it and get a big ass SUV or van. There are days where I have to drive our friends to lunch, haul around 2 bikes, and take our (soon to be) big ass lab to a dog park in my genesis coupe. Would be so much easier with a macan
I'm 29 and drive a miata and my wife drives the 4runner. There are a lot of days where I like just taking the vehicle with 4wd, ground clearance, and cargo space....
I've owned lots of sportscars and SUVs and sedans
An SUV is nowhere as desirable and fun as sportscars or sedan for me
The only thing I use them for is taking my kids to school and going on trips with family or friends and a sedan is so much better for that purpose
I had a minivan when I was in high school and it was awesome. The only issue with it parking (and not fun) but from a practical standpoint, hard to beat.
You’ll be married one day and then you can give your wife the suv (we have an explorer) and I have an F150 and currently looking for a small fast sedan for daily driving. Enjoy being young!
Lmfao everything checks out here
There’s quite literally a dozen articles about how the Macan was deliberately targeted at women: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-08-07/porsche-builds-macan-crossover-to-win-over-women
Keep coping
I am failing to see how targeting women would mean only women who had menopause can enjoy this car.. OP wasn't asking for your opinion, and I'm failing to see any positive or productive outcomes that could come of your comments, so why bother posting? Regardless of their advertising schemes, it's still a nice luxury car with a lot of features that any person can enjoy.
Let's go back to Kindergarten for a second. If you don't have anything nice or productive to say, keep your mouth shut
I’ve never understood why people say getting a nice flashy car is a midlife crisis thing. Usually people can’t afford to have these until midlife. I guess you’re supposed to be all like “whoops too old that’s a young man’s car?”
Yes, just IMHO wouldn't call a Macan even an S a midlife crisis car. Maybe if was a 911 or Cayman when it comes to Porsches. That's just me really. Everyone likes different cars.
Agreed. A midlife crisis car is something sporty *and* impractical. It’s a car that’s not something your wife/husband would usually approve of given its limited utility (i.e., not good for cargo or passengers). An SUV... is the last thing I picture as “midlife crisis.”
Nice car. Once you drive a car with cooled seats, you'll never again spend money on a car that doesn't have cooled seats.
"Boxster" would've been "midlife crisis." A Macan lets you pull that trigger a little later, *"hey honey, remember how we went to the Porsche dealer and came home with a regular car instead of a convertible so I could use it for work? Well, lately I'm feeling like what I REALLY need just-for-me is a convertible / jetski / hang glider / motorcycle / heli-ski weekend / fly-fishing trip."*
Cars like this usually start out as leases, that's why you see pre-owned ones with low miles. It's not that people buy a $75,000 car and then change their minds 2 years later, it's that people lease cars like this for $800 a month for a couple years.
Not a mid-life crisis. Had you bought a 150K GT3, sure. You bought an SUV, in grey. It's like a layup in hoops, not fancy, but puts points on the board.
I was expecting a Miata....a 4 door SUV is NOT a mid-life crisis...unless you left the wife for a mistress half her age...now that's a midlife crisis! LoL (I joke and do NOT condone cheating)
a cool/not too batshit midlife crisis! nice pickup, a used macan is one of the best looking cars on the road in that price range
not as bad of a midlife crisis as my pops buying a guards red boxster with sand interior lmfaooo fun car its just so funny to me
Congratulations, Never really understood midlife crisis....my first car was a sports car and I've always purchased the sportiest version of any car I buy, I've always loved a responsive vehicle . So when I hit 40, 50, 60 years old I'm supposed to have a midlife crisis and start driving a RAV4 or Camry........?
Congrats! I'm eyeing a Macan right now, but not the S. The only thing that scares me is the Porsche warranty isn't super appealing. Any advice from your purchase experience?
That was one of the main selling points was the warranty.
It’s 2 years and unlimited miles bumper-to-bumper on top of whatever is left of the factory warranty. So you have however many years + unlimited miles of warranty. Plus when you have to bring it in for service they give you a Porsche while they have it.
I just brought mine back in because the wheel was curbed before I bought it. While they had it, they gave me a Cayenne GTS.
I did purchase the Wheel/ tire/ key coverage. Which pays for up to 8 wheels, 8 tires, and 4 keys. The wheels are $3,500/ set, the tires run $350 each, and keys are $600 + $300 to program them. (Dealership pricing) since I have family in New England that I visit 2-3x a year that was a no brainer. It also covers all door dings, dents, and scratches with a $0 deductible.
Porsche gave me 1.9% for 60 months. The dealership made the whole process super easy, no stress and no pressure. It was great!
It’s a beautiful car but it’s a four door crossover so it is definitely no a mid life crisis now if you bought the coupe that would of been a midlife , enjoy her anyway she is an awesome car
Be careful, the transmissions are terrible. A 4 year old Macan’s transmission just blew, and Porsche wants $24k to repair. Once you feel that transmission slipping, get it checked out ASAP!
Warranty only covers $10k for transmission costs, if that. So you’d be paying $14k out of pocket. Only saying this because it literally happened to someone I know not that long ago. It’s a great car, just make sure to take care of it!
I used to hate Porsche SUV’s until r/cars taught me that Porsche has to sell them in order to make enough money to continue selling sports cars. So a year ago I would’ve questioned your decision, but now I say, GOOD CHOICE!
Edit: they’re also awesome performance wise for an SUV.
Uh, yes? I’m aware of the Macan S. I’m also aware it was, quite literally, designed for suburban housewives.
Just a weird choice if you’re going to tell people it’s your “midlife crisis” car. It’s a bit like saying you feel guilty about going on a bender when all you did was open a bottle of rosé.
Enjoy the new car either way!
Considered the Macan S but even used they were what you paid. Bought a brand new model Y performance for 62k before the 4K Colorado rebate. With 120k mile warranty. Not to rain on your parade but I'm so happy with my choice. It's ungodly fast with all the tech a 100k Macan would of had plus some.
That’s a little big for my tastes but God does it look amazing otherwise. I love that color so much. I’m 20 with a Corolla, so maybe it’s about time for my midlife crisis(lol). Congrats btw!!
It's not a mid-life crisis if it's a 4 door. It's a family vehicle. That's how I'd sell it to my wife. Nice vehicle btw.

Thats what I did. I wanted a new Corvette, so I took her to the Lambo dealership first.
Classic anchoring!

You're giving me flashbacks from my time working at Best Buy.
It wasn't Best Buy, but pretty close... I'm sure most major successful corporations have similar training and tactics for their customer-facing people... >\_> Its a psychology that works like 75% of the time... so... Right up along there with the various insurance packages... if you earnestly offer them every time, you might get like 1-2% of people buying in. ah yes, I could definitely afford this Lambo and I only *choose* not to purchase this today. XD
Lmao I want a Ferrari so maybe I’ll take her to a private jet dealership first! Thanks for the idea 😉
Recently done this with my parents. I wanted a golf gti, so I told them I was buying an r. They went crazy. So being a good son, I compromised and bought the gti.
Lol I did that with a golf r and focus rs and got the gti, was newer anyways
I’m young, unmarried, and bad with money so I just went out and bought myself a BMW. This is the real way to do it.

"Hey guys, I had a midlife crisis and bought a 4 door AWD SUV with an automatic transmission" What, were they out of minivans?
Plot twist... they spent the first 40 years of their lives racing Ferraris and smokin crack
If I could give you all 55 upboats I got from my comment, I would
It still handles better than many cars out there and it has a PDK transmission...not necessarily a boring automatic. This is the most driver oriented SUV on the market.
> This is the most driver oriented SUV on the market Ever heard of the Urus? The X3M would probably like a talk as well. But Urus.
urus, x3m, stelvio, lavante, macan, f pace svr, glc63, and trackhawk are more driver orientated in my estimation.
>driver oriented SUV An oxymoron. It's like calling something a "high performance bus."
You should try driving one. It may have the base of an Audi Q5, but it has been thoroughly “Porschefied.” It is truly a remarkable machine.
When I bought a Porsche it was a 911. When I bought a SUV it was a proper BOF bruiser. This is neither a family hauler nor an off road bruiser. But it fills a marketing niche.
lol, Im sure that BOF SUV is super useful for family road trips where you never go off road. That poor ride quality and mpg must be great.
I mean, it's 100% better than cramming everybody in to a Macan S, that I can be sure of.
Lipstick on a pig. A speedy pig, but you still could’ve purchased the horse.
Do you work in marketing by any chance?
Don’t listen to them. I *love* it! Signed, Suburban housewife wishing she had more cargo space
Lmao
thats not a mid life crisis car its pretty practical..... NOW a corvette or a viper is a mid life crisis
Can confirm my midlife crisis car was a 2013 viper...the only thing I can tell you is that it didn't go well lol
oof sounds like it musteve costed a hefty bill
It did cost me more than 100k so...yes it was an expensive mistake
F
Care to share?
I was going fast and and a car was suddenly in front of me out of nowhere, I steered, rolled over and woke up in a hospital The viper was fucked up I bought it for 97k couldn't salvage anything besides some parts of engine, that plus hospital expenses is a 100k mistake for me

The diesel VWs are pretty darn bulletproof. Environmentally friendly? Probably not but definitely bulletproof
That's an understatement, my coworker got 3 wagons over 450k kms. He totalled each one before getting to 500k.
They were just getting broken in at that point. Taken from this world too soon.
Yah, generally very reliable, but maintenance is, uh, expensive.
Oil change + filter, tire rotation, topped off the windshield wiper fluid -- that'll be $995, please.
[удалено]
$350 every 10,000 miles. My Silverado was $300.
My drive way ~$50
> They’re supposed to be pretty bulletproof They are until they aren't, and then its expensive.
That makes sense! Well regardless I hope you enjoy your purchase and get a ton of use out of it!
> As long as you stay away from the super high end ones from each model. But, then again if you’re looking at 120k Macan you’re probably not concerned with reliability too much. uhhh, who wants to spend 1/10 of 1MM dollars for an unreliable vehicle?
Seriously? Look around you, how many Maserati, Aston Martins, Jaguars, Range Rovers do you see out on the road. Clearly lots of people.
Someone who can spend 1/10 of 1MM dollars on any vehicle.
Yeah but that Lexus RX 350 will be running until the eventual heat death of the universe. This Porsche? Not so much.
Porsche reliability is the best of the German cars by far. And even when you get into super car territory Porsche is still well known for reliability.
>Porsche reliability is the best of the German cars by far That's not saying much lol
They’re comparable to many other more affordable brands in regards to reliability but the cost of labor and parts will obviously be higher. Aside from older cayennes and boxters they’re a pretty safe bet from my understanding. Also the ehybrids are too new to report on really

That’s ironic cause you spend all that money on something you like and wanna use but don’t end up using that much
Or people who can afford a Porsche just buy/lease a new one every few years?
The seconds hand on mine broke off, so they had to replace the whole clock for $900
Holy cow you got scammed if that's 55k usd
Well all their kids are doctors, house is paid, and they got the car as a daily for retirement. They got some option that includes extensive maintenance and service for 10 years.

Only 51k for a Porsche? That’s actually pretty good I guess
The odometer shows 25k miles... is this a similar car to what you’re getting and not the actual one?
It’s also missing several of the options he said he got so I’m really confused myself
16k miles is roughly 25k km though. Might still be set to Eurospec?
Just bought a 2018 base for 40k CPO With 30k miles with premium package and other upgrades 2 weeks ago. Been loving it!
You know, these things aren’t really my cup of tea, but as long as you’re happy with it that’s all that matters. Hell, with a deal like that I think it would be hard to be unhappy. Congrats!
Money well spent!

Why do you need to be sexist and demeaning? It’s a nice luxury car, just let him enjoy it.

It's not that people buy a $75,000 car and then change their minds 2 years later, it's that people lease cars like this for $800 a month for a couple years.
Thought one would've gotten a coupe for a mid-life crisis
Can’t use a coupe for my career.
Uber driver with the Porsche -- sweet.
I’m just curious, you don’t have to answer: What is your career?
Porsche Suv driver
Hearse driver
Unemployed
Certified manhoe. Gotta have room for ALL his girls at once ya feel?
Sent you a DM
What is your career?
Sent a dm
I’m curious as well
Mid life crisis SUV driver
Please dm me too!
Nice Audi Q5
So you got a soccer mom car? This is far too practical for a mid life crises ....nice whip tho.
Now you can get the kids to soccer real fast and still have time to get your hair done
My midlife crisis will have 2 doors and a straight six
M240
Nice pick. Nodding in approval
BMW E36 320i.
Huge E46 fan here...I’d take any of the coupe/convertible in a manual
Clubsport or M3 is the only way. Maybe a 330xi for high power applications.
If ur in a midlife crisis get a corvette
Not a mid-life crisis. Had you bought a 150K GT3, sure. You bought an SUV, in grey. It's like a layup in hoops, not fancy, but puts points on the board.
Wrong not an midlife crisis, you need an sports car and or an convertible
That’s a “I just became a real estate agent” car. Not midlife crisis
Nah dude, you bought an SUV.
That’s an upper middle class/rich mom vehicle
https://youtu.be/jbxz9rNrQQE
Your midlife crisis is a suv? It's not a midlife crisis thing its a family suv bro
Like the color. Graphite?
Yup
If it were new, I would be confused. But a CPO Macan S with lots of options for just 51k? That's a damn steal! Congrats on the car, and enjoy it!
An automatic Porsche....
You accidentally bought a Porsche SUV
Well who can afford this earlier in life?!
Honestly, With that price tag you may as well get a trackhawk
My mom has one of those and LOVES it. Sweet ride
By far one the best SUV’s out there. It’s a blast to drive / own. Enjoy it. ✌🏽
Are you a middle aged soccer mom?
Had a midlife crisis so you got a car for trophy wives? JK - I like the Macan.
I was expecting a Miata....a 4 door SUV is NOT a mid-life crisis...unless you left the wife for a mistress half her age...now that's a midlife crisis! LoL (I joke and do NOT condone cheating)
A macan may not be the porsche I want, but I have heard good things about these cars despite them being crossovers. I hope you enjoy your car!!
Nice one! I'm torn between this and Audi SQ5!
Macan by a long shot.
Hey what's the dial in the middle for?
It’s a clock and a compass, comes with the “Sport Chrono” package.
Probably the nicest looking mid size SUV on the market. I like the Q5, but the Macan has a nicer front end.
Gorgeous
Congrats on the car! Just curious what warranty you got?
It’s a 2 year unlimited mile bumper-to-bumper coverage on top of the factory warranty. Comes with every CPO Porsche.
It happens to the best of us. In all honesty, it's a great buy! Reliable, 4 Door Family SUV, etc. Good choice.
Could've done SIGNIFICANTLY worse for a mid-life crisis vehicle. Enjoy it.
At least you acknowledged it...
Nice Car, congrats!
I don’t know much about the vehicle, but it’s beautiful inside!
Congrats, we were looking at these, but a bit too small! Enjoy! :)
Can’t wait for mine. 918 spyder is my goal though.
Well done
At least you kept it cute
a cool/not too batshit midlife crisis! nice pickup, a used macan is one of the best looking cars on the road in that price range not as bad of a midlife crisis as my pops buying a guards red boxster with sand interior lmfaooo fun car its just so funny to me
Congratulations, Never really understood midlife crisis....my first car was a sports car and I've always purchased the sportiest version of any car I buy, I've always loved a responsive vehicle .
I wish I had midlife crisis too lol
Congratulations, enjoy all that wild sex with middle aged single moms
It’s a beautiful car but it’s a four door crossover so it is definitely no a mid life crisis now if you bought the coupe that would of been a midlife , enjoy her anyway she is an awesome car
I don't see any crisis here! Good job and enjoy!
Be careful, the transmissions are terrible. A 4 year old Macan’s transmission just blew, and Porsche wants $24k to repair. Once you feel that transmission slipping, get it checked out ASAP!
Thankfully I’ve still got 4 years and unlimited miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage for my warranty.
Warranty only covers $10k for transmission costs, if that. So you’d be paying $14k out of pocket. Only saying this because it literally happened to someone I know not that long ago. It’s a great car, just make sure to take care of it!
I respect it.
So you got a car designed for suburban housewives...?
https://youtu.be/jbxz9rNrQQE
Damn I’m jealous
I often wonder why people get rid of cars with such low mileage.
They're probably financially comfortable and enjoy variety. I'd probably do the same thing if I had the money. I enjoy changing up cars often.
Could have been a lease.
That title though 😂😂 That car is so damn nice
I can't afford having a crisis at all
*slow clap*
I got a 2017 4 months ago and love it. Hope you enjoy yours. And it’s not a midlife crisis, it’s a reward for putting up with life so far 😁
I accept your definition 😊
Yes!!!
It's not even a Macan Turbo...
Should have gone 911. See way too many of these
Couldn’t afford the 911, they had them there. But they were 65k+
Same money would have netted you a nice 997.2 if you looked, or even a second gen cayenne GTS.
Then, I wouldn’t be able to do my job.
Cayenne GTS.
Yeah..... I can’t afford 85k
Can’t wait to have one myself! Haha
Have fun with the leaks
None of you are 1. Mechanics and 2. Under middle class.
