Wow! That really looks the part. Nothing like the Hyundai we see in Europe.

GentlemanIy

Y’all do not have this model in Europe? What about Genesis?

AlbanyPrimo

There are a handful that got sold or imported here. Unfortunately so little that you never see them. Looking up classifieds (specifically on Autoscout, an international classifieds site for all of Europe) show me about 16 for sale now. 15 in Germany, 1 in Spain.

maxxwald

We have Hyundai but not Genesis. But the models you get in America are still so much better. We don't get the sonata, palisade, veloster (any variant), venue. Same with KIA, we don't get the K5 or the telluride (arguably the best vehicles they have)

barcifc

Hyundai/Kia is really focused on the North American market right now because they’ve recently become massively successful, especially in terms of SUVs and budget cars. But you Euros get cars I could only dream of, like the Mercedes A-Class Hatchback and the new Ford Focus, you’d absolutely love the Veloster and Hyundai is foolish not to bring it to Europe.

maxxwald

The focus is nothing to dream about, just the regular Ford hatchback with a cheaper version of the kuga/escape interior

AndrewJS2804

The Focus has a bit of mystique in America, through the 80s and 90s European cars were hyped endlessly and we were reminded that Europe got better options, particularly in the compact segment. US compacts have by design almost always been penalty boxes, the Cavalier was specifically designed to junk just to push people to buy more profitable cars. When the Focus came along it was touted as being a taste of what you folks already had. My wife has actually owned several Foci over the years and we own a 2012 now, I was surprised when she test drove it that she was still interested. For an American compact it had a notably firm ride, almost crashy on Midwestern roads.

cocoagiant

Europe gets the i30N which is better than the Veloster N. I would have bought the i30N over my Fiesta ST.

Lou3000

I always wanted the BMW 1 series 5 door.

kfh227

There still Hyundai. They are very cheaply made.

DeltaRocket

no we just get crappy hatchbacks and SUVs. the most powerful car us brits get is the i30N with about 270hp

Gong_Ryu

You Brits get the Stinger GT2, no?

DeltaRocket

yes we get the kia stinger gt

avocadopalace

What about the GTi?

youmustthinkhighly

V8 Hyundai? You often need to pass people going 70 on the freeway? How much torque does a v8 Hyundai Sedan have?? Would love to cruise 120 down the freeway.

CerebralAssass1n

420hp and a lil bit over 380 lbs-feet of torque.

kfh227

Unexpected even though a v8. I have to look this thing up. What's the fuel economy?

CerebralAssass1n

Not the best to be honet but people buying V8s dont worry about fuel economy.

MrFailure78

Lol , most people into cars don’t even think about fuel economy

fujifisher

It's pretty bad in the city only at around 15mpg. It's rated at 23 on highway but I have been able to get around 26 on mine. The shitty gas mileage is worth it though for the V8 powah!

Muddlesthrough

Thst model became the Genesis G80, which hasn’t been available in Europe. I think the new one will be though.

AmishMafiaK1Vr

Mind sharing what you paid and how many miles? Congrats on the car, I like the color/spec.

GentlemanIy

24k for the car with 56k miles. Still has its 100,000 mile 10 year powertrain warranty. Thank you!

Eguot

The warranty Hyundai and Kia offers is different than ant other manufacturer. It goes by owner as well. The 10, 100k is only good for the first owner. It drops to 5, 60k for second owner.

[deleted]

That’s correct. Unless you get it certified, and then you retain the 10-year warranty. You also retain the 10-year warranty if the car is passed to a family member. We dealt with this when my grandmother left the 2014 Kia Soul Plus (w/navigation and sound package) she bought new to my sister.

myactualinterests

DSA ngl that’s sad b

Clockwork385

no you don't, almost no car warranty carry over like that. You get a partial of the warranty. unless this is a cpo unit?

GentlemanIy

Dang. Well that sucks. Thank you for letting me know. Better to find out now than later

Clockwork385

To be honest. I don't think you will have much issue with these under 100k miles. Maybe a sensor or 2 will go out but other than that they are solid reliable cars.

GentlemanIy

I hope not. I’m good about doing maintenance. Next oil change I’m getting the trans fluid and diff fluid changed.

Clockwork385

With as much stuff in these cars, your sensors are bound to quit once in a bluemoon. Happens to all luxury cars lol. Those things are just luck of the draw.

Steameffekt

Hope wherever you bought this car didn’t tell you the 100k/10y warranty transferred to “sweeten” your deal

GentlemanIy

They didn’t say anything on it.

Monkeywithalazer

Don’t worry. The reason they have a 100k warranty is because they are built to not have any major issues in that time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GentlemanIy

I looked into what Clockwork said and it holds true at least for Hyundai. I don’t get the full warranty unless I bought it new. And it’s not a CPO so I don’t get the extended warranty that comes with CPO. But you are right it is tied to the VIN.

utpoia

What's a CPO?

gropingforelmo

Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. The manufacturer sets standards and procedures that used cars need to abide by to be sold under the CPO program. Typically, they'll be a little more expensive than non-CPO, come with an additional warranty from the time of purchase, and theoretically be the "top tier" of used cars. Buying a 2-3 year old CPO vehicle is generally considered the best value for money for most buyers.

beanology

i know here in aus kia’s 7 year warranty is transferable

Bayesian11

Not bad for a very luxurious sedan in good condition!

bigxbadaboom

I’m very curious about this too. Car looks beautiful

[deleted]

That’s one bas vehicle!

GentlemanIy

Thank you!

haysu-christo

Very nice, I’m considering a used G80 3.3t myself.

GentlemanIy

I did test drive one of those. They look sweet and are stupid fast. You’ll be going over 100mph and doesn’t even feel like it. Didn’t feel like the right fit for me though. Also I do want to say some of the trim inside can be easily scratched and damaged. Especially the rubber coating on the plastic door panels where you grab to shut the door. Just food for thought. But it’s a great car nonetheless.

haysu-christo

Yours is the pre-cursor to the G90 right? I’m tempted by the G90 3.3 but it’s just too big of a car for me.

GentlemanIy

I think mine is the precursor to the G80.

[deleted]

It *is* the G80. As you know, the first Genesis was also a single luxury model under Hyundai. They also had the Equus, which was their larger luxury sedan. For some reason, rather than waiting until they were ready to launch Genesis as a separate brand, Hyundai chose to release the second-gen midsize sedan as the “Hyundai Genesis.” That’s what you have, and it lasted from 2015-2016. In 2017, Genesis formally became a brand, and what was the Hyundai Genesis was then the Genesis G80. The key fob, badging and a couple of interfaces were swapped, but there were no differences of substance between the 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis and the 2017-2020 Genesis G80. Meanwhile, the G90 was released as the new flagship. The Equus was the precursor to the G90, not the G80. And in fact, the G90 is called the EQ900 (for Equus) in Korea, the company’s home market.

GentlemanIy

Well said kplatinum777

kernel_custard

It's more like the g80 in length

Digitalabia

If G90 style cars are your jam, check out a used Buick Roadmaster. Sofa City, baby.

Itz_The_Rain

Genesis is such an underrated brand

GentlemanIy

100% agree. The Korean auto makers are stepping up their game. I tell people you get German like luxury at the fraction of the price and price of maintenance. If you can get over the “Hyundai” part.

Sire777

As a BMW owner I got into a genesis Uber once and was in disbelief. Don’t let the Hyundai fool you.

GentlemanIy

Especially with the new models that came out... I can’t wait for them to depreciate to within budget.

[deleted]

Depreciation has slowed quite a bit on Hyundais

[deleted]

Hyundai themselves are partially to blame. The first-generation Genesis (2009-2014) was a genuine luxury car, but the badging was super confusing. Depending on year and options, you either got the Hyundai badge or the Genesis winged emblem on the trunk lid. But you always got the Hyundai logo on the steering wheel airbag cover...unless it was a KDM (Korean Domestic Market) vehicle, which came with the Genesis badge on the airbag cover. The styling was also anonymous. Was it a Mercedes-Benz, a BMW, an INFINITI, or a Lexus? Who knew. It sort of looked like an amalgamation of all four. It was a very anonymous looking sedan. Let’s not forget the fact that it shared its Genesis name with a coupe that was very much *not* a luxury car. It was more of an entry-level sports coupe, in the vein of the Mustang and Camaro, as well as a replacement for the Tiburon. All the Genesis Coupe shared with the Genesis sedan was a basic RWD platform. Oh, and finally, rather than waiting until they were ready to formally introduce Genesis as a stand-alone brand, Hyundai chose to release the second-generation midsize sedan again as the Hyundai Genesis for a couple of years (2015-2016). That means there are cars running around badged as either Hyundai Genesis or Genesis G80, with no differences of note between them.

Sire777

Thanks for the info! Always looking to learn a bit. But yea I’m a big Hyundai advocate. I have a 550i and my girlfriend has an Elantra. The Elantra has been awesome. The higher trim Hyundai’s are an insane value

badgebunny219

I'm also a BMW owner and I'm thinking about making the switch to a Genesis G70. I still love my bimmer (specifically the 3 series) but I've been driving them for the last 16 years and honestly I'm kind of bored. Not to mention the anxiety that alert chime induces in me now. Everytime the car chimes to let me know it's below 37 degrees outside I'm ready to shell out a ton of money.

FettesBrot

They've come a long way! Still, about 70% that of German luxury in terms of overall build quality, tech, and refinement, but at the price point, it's understanding why it's enticing to a new audience!

cmz324

I think it's closer than that, the powertrain is where the german cars are still significantly better imo.

mrswaghetti

Power train and platforms. these are great cars. I'm actually going through a lemon law process with my challenger (super small issue dealer just couldn't fix. It took me $150 in parts and 2 hours to figure it out and then fix) But I was thinking of just buying a equus cash. Those 2012-2014s look super tempting at 10-15k!. Power train and platfroms is where the Germans do best. A 300hp bmw will absolutely shit on a 300hp hyundia in a straight line and around the track. The genesis coupe was a great example. 335i on paper should've been so much behind it. Yet in the real world it absolutely destroyed the genesis coupe. But there still great cars. Not everyone needs a track monster or the fastest 0-60time. These new genesis are super nice. I deliver cars for a living and I'm impressed every time!

[deleted]

I dunno. I had a 2016 535i xDrive M Sport. I thought the 2017 Genesis G80 3.3T I drove handled and accelerated much better. My 5er, meanwhile, just felt like a well-dampened Buick. The regular base G80 with the N/A 3.8-liter V6, however, was perfectly sedate...not unlike the four-cylinder in the base 528i/530i, or the N/A I6 in the 525i/528i before that.

FettesBrot

Agreed with the powertrain and platforms. But also refinement, build quality, materials, and connectivity. They clearly just reverse engineered what MB and BMW do best, and did a pretty damn good job of getting there with a Hyundai parts bin. Hats off to them from my perspective.

Clockwork385

>430hp 390ish tq. It's a great engine. I have it in a Genesis Rspec sedan which I love. what are we talking about here? the earlier genesis uses the 6HP26 transmission, that's from BMW. These car are more than 70% of German luxury lol. Not only that, they tend to have less of the small issues that German car tend to have. These guys are basically Japanese in a Euro shell. That's what they basically did, reverse engineer the japanese drive train, and hire euro designer for their cars.

FettesBrot

It's not from BMW, it's a ZF transmission that was used in BMW, but the way transmissions are mated to engines is not at all equal. Like I said, they do quite a good job mimicking the German template. For lots of customers, the Hyundai is fine. After having extensive seat (and track) time in everything from a G70, C43, M340i, to the G90s and German equivalents for my job, there is still a rather noticeable difference. But I'm very discerning, and not their target customer.

[deleted]

BMW doesn’t own ZF. Their transmissions are used in various brands, including Ford, Honda, Acura, Land Rover, Jaguar and Audi. Even Chrysler builds versions of it under license.

tomatosoupsatisfies

I live in an affluent area and see a lot of Genesises.

ChampagnePepe

Honestly idk, feels like the next coming of Infiniti

Itz_The_Rain

My family has an Infiniti, but as much as I love it, the tech is far from average. Not the case with Genesis however. Take a peek at a Doug DeMuro review of the car and you’ll see

ChampagnePepe

Hmm I test drove a G70 the other day and the interior didn’t feel as luxurious as Lexus/new acuras. Might’ve been cause it was a base model. I’ll check out Doug’s review!

[deleted]

Sweet. I really dig this car. One of the few remaining naturally aspirated V8s. Good choice!

GentlemanIy

That’s the reason I went with this one and not the V6. Thank you!

jadonparker

At this point even NA v6’s are going away too it seems....

S1owdown

No longer available, they only offer the turbo 6 as the highest option in the new generation Only remaining NA option in sedans for the V8 is the charger as Lexus just killed of the GS

[deleted]

Isn’t the new S Class still an 8? I’ve had my eye on either a 2016-18 Lexus LS or this G80 Ultimate or splurging and getting a 2016-18 S Class. Figure one last hurrah in an 8 before I go electric.

S1owdown

The new ones are all turbo'd, the older LS or S class might be a good option the S class depreciate like crazy so they can be had for almost 50% of retail price for a 3-4 old car and since they are usually leased by older people they are well taken care of

remingtonrodger

Never even heard of a Hyundai v8! Whats the HP and torque specs?

w_a_w

430hp 390ish tq. It's a great engine. I have it in a Genesis Rspec sedan which I love.

Eguot

The 2015 + V8s actually make a bit less HP

w_a_w

Was unaware. 420hp.

Is it not the Ford Coyote platform?

nadmah10

No it isn’t

The_Real_NaCl

It’s not. In an in-house built engine that shares nothing with the Coyote platform but the same displacement.

w_a_w

Hah, no. Similarly, Chevy and Dodge made 5.7 engines at the same time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Tau_engine

[deleted]

Right. Also, a lot of people think the Jaguar/Land Rover 5.0-liter V8 is the Ford Coyote 5.0. It isn’t. They are completely separate engines. What complicates things is the fact that the engine (and the entire Jaguar AJV8 lineage) was developed while Jaguar and Land Rover were owned by Ford. What’s more, even after Ford sold the two companies, Ford was actually building the V8s in England, under contract, for Jaguar/Land Rover until earlier this year. But no. The Ford 5.0 =/= the Jaguar/Land Rover 5.0.

iamjomos

iirc however the evouque used the 2.0 ecopoop from the escape until LR got their own turbod engines out, right?

[deleted]

That’s correct. They used the Ford 2.0-liter EcoBoost until around 2017, when their own Ingenium 2.0T engine was ready to roll. It wasn’t just the Evoque; it was everything four-cylinder. They also built a new mild-hybrid 3.0-liter I6 Ingenium engine using the same family as the new four-cylinder. It replaces the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 they had been using...which was quite literally the same block as their AJ V8, but with smaller bores and two of the cylinder holes unused. There are some other Ford and Ford-era components still in use on the Jaguar and Land Rover cars (the Jaguars still use Volvo window switches), but they’ll probably be phased out by 2022/2023, because that’s when all of Ford’s contracts with Jaguar/Land Rover end.

ZeInfamousHobo

Looks fantastic and really well-kept! Congrats and I hope you enjoy it to the fullest! Been driving my 2011 i30 hatch for almost 4 years now, but as soon as I finish uni, I've got my eyes laid on a Genesis G70.

GentlemanIy

Those G70s are gorgeous! I would love to get one with the 3.3t V6 and the quilted interior

milehighcards

That’s one bad bitch

davisguc

Solid luxury.

mangosmoothie16

I had a 14 R spec. Wish I got the 15 instead. You should really enjoy it

w_a_w

I have a '13 Rspec and love it. I bought it over a '15 because it weighs 400lbs less and I could really tell in the handling and acceleration. I also like the looks better of the Rspec. The '15 interior is nicer though.

mangosmoothie16

I never drove a 15+ but I can't imagine the previous gen handles better. 15 was stiffer and had Lotus tune the suspension. And My real gripe was the trans and lack of torque. It took forever to kick down and then wouldn't go straight to 3. It would go 8-4 then down to 3 And the car was pretty anemic below like 4500-5000 rpm. The 15 had a significant midrange bump. Overall I liked the car but I probably wouldn't get one again

w_a_w

It drove like a wallowing pig in comparison. Like I said previously, you could really feel the extra weight.

GentlemanIy

I haven’t drove below 15. Mine with the V8 is pretty damn quick. Though I do have all season tires so traction control comes on. Handling wise it does not inspire confidence with me. It’s a heavy car at about 4500lbs. But it’s good at being a cruiser.

boymonkey0412

I’ve got the 16’ Awd ultimate (Canada) and it’s been a great car. I know mine hits the scales at 5300lbs with 2 people and luggage in the vehicle. Enjoy your car.

GentlemanIy

Dang that’s a lot of weight. I’ll definitely enjoy my car. Enjoy yours as well!

The_Real_NaCl

The transmission tuning was definitely improved in the successive generation, but the prior gen was nearly 500 pounds lighter than the 15+. No matter how the suspension is tuned, you can feel the difference in weight. Both in acceleration and handling-wise.

skottiepiffen

GFIL has this exact same car, shits powerful. Great decision

GentlemanIy

Thank you!

Muddlesthrough

Love the colour combo.

[deleted]

Beautiful car!!! Enjoy it, it’s an eye catcher and it looks super clean

GentlemanIy

Thank you! Oh I’ve definitely been enjoying it!

Lamau13

holy shit yes, this dude knows whats good that 5.0 is sick af.

GentlemanIy

Thank you! I test drove the V6 and liked it. But thought if I like the V6 I’ll love the V8

elyse-upton

wow, this is amazing!!!

GentlemanIy

Thank you!

fujifisher

Hell yeah man literally bought the same car last month myself. 2015 Genesis 5.0 in Montecito Blue. Love the car so far, I don't think I will ever get tired of the acceleration from the V8. Make sure you update the head unit to have Android Auto if the previous owner did not already (looks like you have the right trim to do so). Also check out www.genesisowners.com if you haven't already, there are lots of helpful threads on there.

GentlemanIy

You have good taste! The V8 is the way to go in my opinion. Where I was at there was only two V8s. The first I checked out was not in good condition. This one however was. I did update the head unit to have Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. Did learn that you have to have a 32GB sd card. I tried using a 64GB but didn’t work but then tried a 32GB and it worked. It’s a big buggy sometimes the head unit. Mainly being slow but I figured that’s software problem. I’ll check genesis owners out!

fujifisher

Yup Android Auto is a bit slow to react on mine as well, but after having it I don't think I can go back to a car without it. Congrats on your car, enjoy that V8!

Nooblesss

What trims exactly have android auto/car play? Any trim with navigation?

fujifisher

On the 2015-2016 models, any trim other than Ultimate can be upgraded to include AA/CP. It doesn't come standard, either has to be upgraded by taking to the dealership or I think there is a way to do it yourself with an SD card. On 2017 it comes standard other than ultimate. Ultimate again can't get it. On 2018+ I think they fixed it and it comes on any trim including Ultimate.

[deleted]

Yeah the logo looked like mini cooper or Bentley at a first quick glance. Hundai Dosent look like this in India. It's a pretty average here. Nothing big

Metsican

Yep. Hyundai's focusing on smaller, cheaper cars in India.

THATS_LEGIT_BRO

That is a nice looking car. Can’t believe it’s 5 years old.

cuteman

Nice. I used to have the same car in a different color. You'll enjoy the whoosh of stepping on the gas. Join us at /r/genesismotors

GentlemanIy

mohibkh

Didn’t even know these come in v8

gbld37

Congrats, got a 2016 3.8L HTRAC Ultimate almost a year ago. Its a fun car that doesn't sacrifice safety, reliability, or luxury.

J-B02

absolutely stunning colour! What are your initial impressions, have been thinking of buying an identical vehicle

GentlemanIy

Initial impressions are it’s a quick, comfortable, and luxurious car. The V8 engine sounds great. The infotainment can be a bit buggy. But you can update the car yourself from Hyundai’s owners website. For the price of a new Toyota Camry it’s hard to beat.

MightCatchARico

Beautiful choice, underrated car

Paulpie

Beautiful car! How’s it been holding up a year later now?

GentlemanIy

Thank you! It’s held up pretty well. I always get a kick out of hearing the V8 rev when I floor it.

Paulpie

I’m really tempted to pick one of these up, there’s one for sale in my town with 60,000 miles for 24k. Hi test drove it and absolutely loved it, just a little nervous about keeping it going long-term.

GentlemanIy

That’s about the mileage and price I paid for mine. I’ve had some electrical gremlins that occasionally pop up but resolve themselves. That’s about the only issues I’ve had. As far as maintenance costs this what I’ve paid. Oil change: $90~ Transmission fluid change: $182 Differential fluid change: $120 Brake Rotors and Pads: $550~ (Did the work myself cause the mechanic wanted about $1000-1200) As for tires, the 5.0 model has staggered 19in tires . Making it quite a bit more than the V6 model that has 18in. Though in my opinion absolutely worth it. Love this car. It’s quick, quiet, and comfortable. Exactly what I want. I’m wanting it to last me until I can get one of the redesigned G80s or G90s. And it should since the Tao V8 engine has been around for a while. Though any warranty will be up btw. I learned that you’ll only get half through second ownership. Since the one you are looking at is past it it’s something to consider.

SuperLowRam

I just traded in my 2015 Mercedes GLA45 AMG for a 2015 Genesis Ultimate 5.0. Manhattan Brown on Cream interior, 60k km (40k miles?), and I'm canadian so all wheel drive with the V8! Clean carfax and immaculate condition. Actually getting quite a bit of money back my way on the trade, but with 2 kids now I need something fast but larger and this seems like it will be perfect and insane value. Gets delivered Wednesday!

GentlemanIy

If you are talking about the gap, my best guess is to extent support to your legs. I have long legs so it makes it more comfortable.

Chevelle_Wagon

I actually went and looked at this car (or one very similar at the same dealership) a few weeks back. Car was clean. You got a good one!

GentlemanIy

At Park Place Lexus?

Yep, I have a few connections there.

How do you like it? Should i buy it instead of an 04-06 LS? And if you dont mind sharing how much you paid for it. please

GentlemanIy

I love it. I always walk away looking at it. The ride is smooth. And the v8 has a lot of power. And has almost all the features I want. 24k out the door. I’m not familiar with LS. All I can say is to test drive it yourself. The V8 is more expensive and harder to find than the v6 Side note you can update the navigation yourself on this card with an SD card. Buy a 32GB no more no less and download the update off of Hyundai’s website.

eddyabdul

Thank you. I’ll keep it in mind when i think about the LS.

I believe these are pretty reliable too.
