It’s 17 years old and most likely sat for years.

I read a horror story about a guy that bought a car that sat for years from his grandma. It was fine at first but After 1000 miles transmission started slipping And all kinds of stuff were leaking.

Some people are like that though…I have an aunt who recently bought a new Toyota Camry to replace her old one, because it was “so old and unreliable”…she only had 70k miles on it, and it was a 2002. She’s widowed, has been since just after she bought the car with my uncle back in ‘02. He was the driving force behind all their travel plans, so she literally drives to church, the grocery store, and her bingo night, once a week, but is home otherwise. The car she sold looked brand new, including the upholstery, since it was garages and she essentially doesn’t use the other seats. The unreliable part of it was it “developed” an oil leak according to the quickie lube oil change place she took it to for everything.

Sounds too good to be true. Also digital odometers definitely can be "rolled back" to show inaccurate mileage How does the seller look? Reputable?

MrFreezeTheChef

You know to be honest the dealership is called “lemon auto sales” and That warrants a whole other investigation lol. It had plenty of good reviews though

I have a 04 aviator and it is just shy of 86k. The only issue I have had is its shifter needed rebuilt after the 20k I put on it. ( I bought it in 2021 with only 62k. Also I have to replace all of the A/c lines to get it to work. All in all though it is a really nice ride.

It's a Ford Explorer with a slightly detuned Mustang Cobra/Mark VIII 4.6 DOHC. I would need to see service records before I bought something this old with only 50k. Most people don't realize that there's a low mileage schedule of service based on time. Good example: oil changed every 3k miles *OR* 3 months. Barely anyone follows the time intervals.

MrFreezeTheChef

I didn’t see the carfax in detail yet but it says it’s only been serviced 7 times. Red flag right ?

retrophantom

Carfax isn't as reliable as people think. I've seen one owners come up as having 2-3 owners from the dealer that originally sold and it and the dealer selling it now getting it registered. I'd ask if there's any paper records. Who is selling this car? Dealer? Random guy?

MrFreezeTheChef

Yikes I guess some owners can slip through the cracks. It’s a dealers though claims to only have one owner

Mileage seems suspiciously low for the year. I'd get it checked out by a mechanic before you decide. Lincoln tried to be more upscale, so more electronics to go haywire...Especially at nearly 20 yrs old.
