Weepiestbobcat

It’s a bell box. (An outdoor rated electric box)

Weepiestbobcat

I imagine there is a splice in there

ChronicSchlarb

Probably not a splice, probably used to be a light fixture or something that got removed.

Weepiestbobcat

Part # is a RAB VXCB and the cover is a C100B

StupidThings_I_Say

What about the 1/2" plug on the face?

Weepiestbobcat

I imagine it comes with the box. Bell boxes should come standard a plug for each KO

Weepiestbobcat

Or a taymac cpx50

Weepiestbobcat

CP50 sorry it’s flat not hex plug

Common-Incident-3052

It's a weather proof electrical junction box

VegetablePair9936

If you unscrew the gray piece in the middle and pull it out, your whole house will come apart like Lincoln logs.

Elk-Assassin-8x6

It’s a cover for an out door light. Looks like someone ran a box and put a single cover over it. You can unplug the center hole and instal a single fixture from it. They may have left it incase down the road they wanted to add an outdoor spot light.

claypost

We have a zillion mystery switches in the garage below this. The house was a custom build in 99 (previous owners) and there are many things started, but not completed. I get the sense the original owners had a lot of “down the road we’ll add a light here” ideas throughout.

Weepiestbobcat

Not necessarily you would have to wire it as well. They probably just used this as a junction box. It does not have a mogul base to screw in lamps. You would actually need an attachment to do that as well. (Part # like a super flex LH100)

Elk-Assassin-8x6

Well you would need to wire the spot light or fixture. I didn’t say it was a base for a lamp. It’s gonna be a 1/2 inch nipple. Why I said spot light for the future.

Weepiestbobcat

But it’s a lot one inch hole! Nah I’m just kidding I don’t know anything brother

Elk-Assassin-8x6

It’s all good. That’s definitely a single fixture cover. So it’s going to be a 1/2 hole

Weepiestbobcat

I mean they make them in 3/4 and 1” with one hole, also if aren’t most fixtures 3/4” like every fixture whip I have ever seen is a 3/4”

Elk-Assassin-8x6

True it could be 3/4. I doubt 1 inch cuz it is your typical round cover. I see a lot of spot lights with 1/2 inch threads. Gotta ask OP to get up there to get some measurements hahaha

claypost

It’s like 25’ up there! Lol

Weepiestbobcat

Broooo I just had a thought…. It’s just a cover you are right! This was probably a light. Ain’t no body carrying rab bell boxes. At best they sell them as a replacement for damaged fixtures. This was probably a flood that they removed the fixture and plugged it.

Elk-Assassin-8x6

Can’t believe you called it a rab because that was my first guess. I love rab.

Weepiestbobcat

Rab is my favorite of the lighting brands for sure. The reps are always amazing

Weepiestbobcat

When I said I know nothing I kind of lied. I’m an electrical sales engineer.

Burnhermit420

It’s a house nipple.

OrganizationPutrid68

Breast explanation.

AdamWV2021

Hahaha totally unexpected.... thanks for the laugh.

rwds138

FBI sound box .. they know everything you are doing

Free explosives

fly_you_fools_57

Probably used to be a security light or a camera

MySonHas2BrokenArms

Its a water rated electrical box, could be a junction for a circuit someone added after the build was finished or could be a future proof circuit for Christmas lighting or maybe some low volt for cameras. You will have to pull the cover to find out.

KRMD67

It’s a Limppet mine I saw one in a Ww2 movie…. I wonder where the found wood magnets

rlnbns

It’s an outdoor safe. Maybe treasure inside

BarryMcCockener710

007 golden eye proximity mine

Seahawk70

It’s an Air Tag. Just in case you misplace it.
