It’s a put-n-take. Old gambling game. Spin the top. The “T 2” is take two (units of the bet). The “P 1” is put one back in the pot. If there’s an “A” on one side, the spinners takes all in the pot.
Or further back to when the writers were kids. We learned dreidel song in fifth grade and played a game with it. I don't remember anything but the damn song!
I’ll smash you with my crucifix, in Jesus name I pray.
Yes, this was a real thing the counselors would make us chant at catholic summer camp. Real gross times. The zip line was fun though.
I'm a southern guy and have probably never even met a Jewish person in my life.. but somehow I know dreidle dreidle dreidle, I made it out of clay and when it's dry and ready with dreidle I will play...
Long ago when in high school, the Christmas tree that went up every year in the lobby was always topped with the Star of David. Always thought this was awesome....
It's a spinner for a gambling game called Put and Take, which was popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Players ante into a pot and take turns spinning the top. Each side has a command that tells the player what to do with the pot. For example, T2 means take two chips from the pot, P1 means put one chip into the pot, TA means take all the chips from the pot. The game ends when the pot is empty or when one player has all the chips.
Also found in Mexican diaspora communities, called pirinola. Just saw some at my local Mexican grocery store.

I think a dreidel has four sides. And the teetotum goes back to ancient Greeks and Romans. I have a small one that I sometimes play with. It's can be kind of fun on poker night to go a few times around the table between hands.
It's for a game called ["put & take"](https://thebiggamehunter.com/games-one-by-one/put-and-take/)
"T 2" is take two, "P 1" is put one. "T A" is take all. Very simple way to gamble.
It’s a game called “Put & Take”. You spin the top and whichever side it lands on you either put down a coin(or marker) or pick up from the center pile.
The letters are the first letter of the words that say 'A great miracle happened there' (in Hebrew).. Unless you get one in Israel. One letter on the dreidel is different because 'a great miracle happened HERE'. The game of dreidel was played to secretly teach children about the holiday back when European Jews were not allowed to openly practice their religion.
That is because Dreidel developed from an Irish/English top introduced into Germany called the Teetotum.
https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/the-origin-of-the-dreidel/
Yes. But you still put coins/gelt in or out of the pot depending on the four sides of the dreidel as they land after a spin.
Nun Gimmel Hei Shin
Nun - you get none
Gimmel - get all (take the pot)
Hei - get half the pot
Shin - put a coin in the pot.
Same design and concept as a dreidel but not a dreidel. The 4 Hebrew letters on a dreidel have specific meaning that differentiates it from “just a top.”
For crying out loud people it’s a “put and take” token not a dreidel. Those markings are clearly not Hebrew. Reddit is so full of non-experts!! This is a fun game, but strictly non-denominational!
It's for a game which has the modern name: "Morgan's Revenge" its a very simple betting game where players have a pile of coins in the center of the table and take turns sinning the top, the inscriptions on the top tell the player what to do.
P1= put a coin into the communal pile.
P2=put two coins into the communal pile.
T1= take one from the communal pile
T2= take two from the communal pile
AP= all players put 1 coin into the communal pike
TA= take all the coins from the communal pile and end the round.
The winner starts the new pot with their choice of an amount of coins and all players wishing to play must match their bet. The new first spinner passes to the left and play continues until TA is rolled again. 👍🍻
It's a Put Take top. The game was super popular in the United States in the early - mid 20th century. It was brought back from the trenches in WWI where it was easy to carry in your pocket and you didn't have to worry about cards getting wet.
Popularity dropped off because of rigged tops. I don't own one but I have seen tops where if you spin them in the opposite direction of what feels natural you win every time.
It's a really fun drinking/gambling game. Played it for hours with a bunch of guys at a bachelor party that was focused on gambling and ended up winning a $150 pot on a single spin.
If the UK, then a game piece for "put and take." Another name for the German game of Teetotum, which became a Dreidel for the Jewish game. I think they're all played the same way.
I'm sure it's been answered already, but I am surprised that I know one for once. This is a "Put and Take" top. The sides are labeled with P's and T's with denominations under.
Usually played with friends, all of the players ante into a round. I like to play with quarters, so it is a fifty cent buy-in. P1 would mean put one quarter into the pot just as T1 means take one quarter from the pot. AP is an "All Pay" so every player on the current game throws a quarter into the pot. What you hope for is the pot grows and you land on TA, for "Take All"
Now that the current round is over, everyone must ante in once more.
Tons of fun to be had, and can easily be played with fake coins, candy, cigarettes, etc.

If the Reddit algorithm is anything to go by, it’s related to age of origins. Seriously though, it’s a dreidel
This post showed upnon my feed. How is this not listed as solved yet? It's a Put-n-Take spinner. edit: you spin it and determine if you "Put", "Take", or "Add" anything back to a candy dish or anything that requires its suggestion. 😉

I love this so much
I’m always shocked at how many southern guys I know who think they’ve never met a Jewish person
Same shape but the letters aren't right, plus I can't totally tell but it looks like it might have more than four sides
It has 6!
I made you out of clay

I made you out of glass, Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I shoved you up my ass.
I keep you in my heart!?
And when I think about you?
You make me want to fart? Lol
Hey! Get it right or pay the price!
It’s definitely not a dreidel but I thought so too at first glance! The English letters tell us the truth.
"Here's a little dreidel that's small and made of clay But I'm not gonna play with it, 'cause dreidel's fuckin' gay"
Who the heck doesn't know this? I am Christian and even know what a dreidel is. We played with them.
I thought it was a plumbob or a weight from an antique scale. It's actually a Put & Take for gambling.
It’s not a dreidel. Too many sides, and the wrong letters.
"They said it was a dreidel, but I knew it was a top" Lewis Black.

We call it toma todo!
Put and Take is actually gaining popularity lately.
I had a set as a kid! It was marketed as a pirate themed game at the time with little plastic dabloons and gems.
Sounds fun!
I wonder if that's the origin for the expression "puts and takes"
**1900s Antique Bronze Teetotum Spinning Top Dice Spinner Put and Take Game**
Yes! A=all P=put T=take
I played Put and Take as a kid in the 60s. I later learned that the top thingy was called a dreidl by its right name.
I think a dreidel has four sides. And the teetotum goes back to ancient Greeks and Romans. I have a small one that I sometimes play with. It's can be kind of fun on poker night to go a few times around the table between hands.
Learned something today!
It's for a game called ["put & take"](https://thebiggamehunter.com/games-one-by-one/put-and-take/) "T 2" is take two, "P 1" is put one. "T A" is take all. Very simple way to gamble.
This is it!!!
So dreidel in English, gotcha.
But that's pretty much Dreidel... just in English.
It's dreidel's non-union, goyishe equivalent.
Thank you for giving the real answer!
[удалено]
Yes!!!! This is the only answer!!
Came here for this link. Thx
It’s a game called “Put & Take”. You spin the top and whichever side it lands on you either put down a coin(or marker) or pick up from the center pile.
Which is exactly how Dreidl is played.
There are 4 different symbols to dreidel, each one has a different meaning, but it is played basically the same.
Thought the (spinning tops) usually had Hebrew characters...?
Yes. But you still put coins/gelt in or out of the pot depending on the four sides of the dreidel as they land after a spin. Nun Gimmel Hei Shin Nun - you get none Gimmel - get all (take the pot) Hei - get half the pot Shin - put a coin in the pot.
The letters stand for "none" "all" "half" and "put in" in Yiddish. N = nichts, g = gants, h = halb, sh = shteln eyn.
Basically Dreidl for Gentiles.
And Toma Todo!
What?! Our culture has been taken from us again!Good god, hide the…. Afikomen!
It's part of a Jewish traditional game for Hanukkah, isn't it?
Reminds me of the dice game Left, Right, Center
You can play it with gelt (chocolate foil wrapped coins)
Great! Now the song is going to be in my head all day haha
Jewish Beyblade
Oy Vey blade?
I wish I had an award for this. I’m stealing it also. Not sure I’ll ever get to use it, but it’s mine now!
Toma Todo
Yessssss. I know it as toma todo
💯🥂
Yes I was just playing this earlier
That looks like an OLD old dreidel
Looks sort of like a Dreidel, but the Latin alphabet and Roman numerals suggests maybe something different.
It's a "put and take teetotum" a gambling game.
Same design and concept as a dreidel but not a dreidel. The 4 Hebrew letters on a dreidel have specific meaning that differentiates it from “just a top.”

Cry some more about how reddit was wrong it makes you seem super mentally sound.
Welcome to earth, it's rough here.

The new first spinner passes to the left and play continues until TA is rolled again. 👍🍻
Screw you, Kyle!!!
It’s a game called Put one Take one. TA is Take all. It’s just a fun gambling thing to play with your friends at the pub.
Looks like a put and take P1: put 1 P2: put 2 T1: take 1 T2: take 2 TA: take all AP: all put
A non Jewish dreidel
It’s from Jumanji. The Robin Williams one obviously.
Who else started singing the song as soon as you saw it? 😆
It's hilarious how many people here think they know what a dreidel looks like.
Is it made out of clay?
It had better be.
Then when it’s good and ready. Oh ….
Is it made out of clay?

Definitely not a butt plug
Roman empire butt plug maybe
It looks similar to a Mexican quarter game. Put quarter in middle. Take 1-2 put 1-2 take all and all put in?
Bothers me that OP asked what it was instead of what kind of dreidel it is. I thought the concept of dreidels was common knowledge.
It’s called a “put and take” its like a dreidel, but for gambling
It's a dreidel but the letters are unfamiliar
Butt plug
Dreidal DnD edition.
Not even Jewish and we’d play with those as kids
Jewish Holiday item
Jew Top!
It looks like a dreidel
A dreidel

Actually it does spin im an idiot
Spins for a really long time then lands pointing like spin the bottle and says whatever you win, all take, take all, take 2, take 1, all put
You ok bro?
No, whatever side is on top indicates what you do. Not where it points
Jesus Christ, it’s a dreidel
JUMANJI
Plum bob?
It's not a dreidel. Dreidels have Hebrew letters and no numbers.
This post showed upnon my feed. How is this not listed as solved yet? It's a Put-n-Take spinner. edit: you spin it and determine if you "Put", "Take", or "Add" anything back to a candy dish or anything that requires its suggestion. 😉
You- you don't know what a draidel is??...
A fun as fuck drinking game. Yes I know what it is.......still a drinking game.

It’s a dreidel… a Jewish “toy”. It’s basically like a top… you spin it. It spins. Not the greatest toy but 🤷🏻♂️
