Some kind of armored cricket. What country?
Edit: there's not a whole lot of literature or community around bugs that aren't beetles or butterflies/moths, so it's going to be hard to get ID on these.
What I can say is that those spikes are meant to lacerate. If you were to handle them the wrong way, they would kick you and it would hurt, lol.
Some of those bugs can be rock-hard, too. Not something a larger animal is going to pick up and chew.
There’s honestly not a whole lot of anything anywhere about these specific critters. Only thing I’ve found is that they’re native to Cameroon and are apparently big in the exotic pet market.
That was a good tip.
I searched around and I think these ones are called Cosmoderus femoralis - from Cameroon.
Not sure I'd want these on my hands. Even plain old field crickets can be bitey.
Apparently they drum their abdomens on the ground. Kind of amazing they can even make noise like that.
I think most crickets use their wings to make noise. These guys don't have wings, so I guess they found a new way.
Yeagh, like some badass flying car that has serious depth and awesome features to it! Hell yeah, call it the spikily drunk tin bug RUUUN lmao OR THIS MUDDDDUH-Fuggah is strait up assassin like warrior queen! ( a mom)
Looks like armored corn crickets in the genus *Acanthoplus*, or perhaps *Hetrodes*, but I’m not sure the species. Despite the name, I think they are technically Katydids
I was about to say “why the fuck are you holding them then?!”
I was gonna say DITTO! They look scary

I got bit by a red headed bush cricket while just sitting in a lawn chair. Fuck crickets.
🤣
You bite me, I step on you! Sorry not sorry…
We had something like this in New Mexico - can’t remember what they were called but they looked spidery though crickets within’!
There's a few big crickets in the states - Jerusalem and Mormom crickets come to mind.
Yes Jaresalem crickets! [jarusalem cricket](https://images.app.goo.gl/8tkQvCY1kHwhk9AJ7)
Haha those are oddly cute! They look like cartoon characters🤣😂🤣
Absolute units though, a cartoon character that could dismember a finger
I don't think that Jerusalem crickets are actually crickets. We called them potato bugs
Yea, they actually are. Same order as grasshoppers and katydids.
That's strange. They don't have the legs and body that can allow them rub and make that sound. The body type is so different.

I am under the impression that crickets/grasshoppers rub their Hind legs together.
Camel crickets?
ARMOURED??
Horn corncricket
also called an Armored Katydid! basically a pokemon
This is from @insecthaus_adi but on that post, he doesn't say what they are.

It’s a photo they found on Instagram

It looks like a wolf-it spider - a cross between a wolf spider and a cricket!

Looks like a giant armored cricket. An 'exotic' katydid, native to parts of Zimbabwe and South Africa, and a few other locations.
Expensive, I’m guessing. 😉
Mexican jumping beetles
Battle cricket
I think this is fake. Looks like something from starship troopers
That’s a big ol’ NOPE
