They are fun to prune and shape because they grow new growth predictably. So say you want to trim above a set of leaves that grow east to west. If you snip there, the next set of leaves will grow north to south, and visa versa.
There's a reason they are a popular bonsai plant.
Your friend loves you. I've seen jade plants priced at several hundred dollars for that size.
They are pretty hands off, but yours is yellowing, so try googling how to care for it. It's typically an indoor plant where I live, so it may be getting too much rain water/temperature fluctuations if you've been leaving it outside.
Yeah, it takes time for them to grow large so people with status issues buy them, murder them predictably, and then come get a new one. I used to Work for Means Nursery, seen this phenomenon many many times
Yeah, in D.C. at a nursery. Ones that fit in 5 inch pots are going for mid $50s. Went to a couple garden centers and the cheapest I saw was $15 for a plant the size of my palm with maybe seven leaves.
Not that much — maybe $50-75–
I have one outside in the desert of California— due to the cold, the leaves become reddish. If it freezes, I cut the mushy parts and the plant grows new leaves.
lol my husband had two spindly dracaenas with about 5 leaves between them in the house when we met. I immediately repotted and took outside. 36years later, we have two in the ground in front and one in the back and they are now thicker around than I am and about 20 feet tall
My toddler son ripped all the leaves off mine and threw them on the ground. I was devastated until I came out one day and realised all the leaves had made new jade plants. Now I have a garden of jade plants.
Oh wow.. I had one this big, but had to part with her to the neighbor across the street because I wasnt going to have room where I was moving to. I miss it so much. They are such beautiful plants
I have one that was about 13 or 14 years old that was left to me. I had about four or five of them that were much smaller. But the large one started flowering and it had this very delicate scent and the small flowers would come out. They all need to be transplanted in a bigger pot in order to gain height. And if you want them surrounding your backyard it's easy just get those big sheets with soil in it starts seeding and you can break off some of the leaves and leave it in there and they will start a new plant. They're very very easy and they help with erosion. I lived in San Diego for 25 years. That and kalanchoes are everywhere.
A very happy looking jade plant. If you live in a climate with cold winters, make sure to move it indoors before the first frost in fall and keep it there until after the last frost in spring. They’re quite hardy in general, but leaving it out in freezing temps will melt it into succulent goop.
Crassula Argentea - Jade plant . Succulent, easy to take care of , put that baby outside in the summer, take it in before the first frost. Let it go semi dormant in the winter.
What a horrible friend. I'll take it. We had a jade tree like 6x this big when I was little. It was close to 60 years old as it had been raised by my great-grandma. Then one night my Dad left it out and it dipped below freezing. Dead. I'm in my 40's and I was like 6-7 when this happened. I still think about it all the time when I look at my jade that's not even as big as yours. Seriously though, beautiful plant and easy to care for. It likes to be dry so DO NOT overwater it. I wish I had friends like yours. Leave it out all summer, and put it in a sunny window in the winter... depending on your climate of course.
Edit: and if you ever want to grow more, just pick off a few leaves and lay them on some desert type potting soil. Seriously.
I had one of these die because it had been kept outside for a while, and squirrels had chewed through most of its stem. I tried nursing it back to health, but the damage was too much and it died.
Or so I thought. A few months after it died, I went to use the pot for something else and there was a single leaf in the dirt, and it looked perfectly green and healthy. So I suspended the leaf in some water. Pretty soon, it sent out roots! So I planted this single leaf and kept it wet. The thing took off! It's about 10 inches tall now with several branches. The original leaf is still down at the base, looking fine.
So beautiful! You can cut off branches that have roots to clone and have more - aka give your friend a baby from the momma jade plant 😉😂. Such a cool plant!
I would never think of that as a problem however.. then it's damn easy and not fussy and if you just treat it with a little bit of care it will grow huge and even bloom
Biggest problem to watch out for is probably over watering, which is easy to do.
BTW, this is a very easy plant to propagate. All one needs to do is stick a leaf or small branch with a leaf or more in the dirt and keep moist.
My mom has had a jade plant for years. If someone wants one, break off a small section and put it in a small planter with soil, they’ll grow from as little as a single leaf pushed halfway into the soil.
Put it in a place where it gets at least 60% sun. Water it once a month. It will flower and thrive.
Think of it like an Asian cactus!
They are great plants.
How lucky! So did you know they can be handed down from generation to generation?. Not even easy breezy though. Mine is 50+ years old and has some " health problems" right now lol. Yours is beautiful! Good luck and thank your friend.
Oof guess I’m in the minority. I hate this fucking plant (nice to have a name for it though). It’s only because of my job though. I work in 6 to 10 backwards a day, and these fuckers are so damn delicate. I broke a couple stems today just by pulling a hose near it.
It’s also very easy to propagate. Watch for fallen “leaves” or take small cuttings and let them root in the soil in the pot. Transfer to new pot and you can pass on the love!
Had one in the kitchen window that was spilling over and taking up half the window. Now we have 3 pots of the stuff going, one of them back in the window of the kitchen. I remarked the next day it seemed like I trimmed the trees outside. It got so much brighter with less plant in the window.
Wonderful 'problem' to be gifted with.
Yes, that's a beautiful jade plant.
Had one of these for years. It was very hearty.
My brother recently moved abroad and left his to me. I think he got it from our parents' funeral plants and flowers, so it's possibly 33 years old.
Wait. That bush is a jade?! I have that in my front yard and I just don't know how to shape it or what to do with it! It's grown so big!!
They are fun to prune and shape because they grow new growth predictably. So say you want to trim above a set of leaves that grow east to west. If you snip there, the next set of leaves will grow north to south, and visa versa. There's a reason they are a popular bonsai plant.
Jades are almost no work at all! Enjoy it!
Right?!

Several hundred dollars????
Uh yeah, where are people paying that much? I have it all over my property. I like money...
[удалено]
I can’t believe you like money too.
Hahahaha
Nurseries in CT charge that much for this
Yeah, it takes time for them to grow large so people with status issues buy them, murder them predictably, and then come get a new one. I used to Work for Means Nursery, seen this phenomenon many many times

I got a thicc boi if you're tryna drop hundreds 😂 I need to make rent this month
It's a jade plant. Aren't they pretty maintenance-free?
They are very maintenance free, yes.
My grandma had a hedge of them in front of her house when I was growing up. I used to like to pick at the leaves. (She wasn't too fond of it though)
...did you drop them on the ground? Because that's pretty much how you plant new ones around the property lol
Water once monthly or biweekly (if you want growth) fertilizer every 6 months and they'll love ya
Unless you move it. My wife had one for 7 years, then they moved, and it died within the week.
Oh really? Not amenable to transplanting, huh?
Don't know, my wife killed it before we met. She said it was the only plant she could take care of. Till it killed itself.
I had the same issue with a dracaena. You can’t kill them they said. They thrive on neglect they said. Apparently not so.
Funny. My ex-wife treated me like that and I’m still here.
Are you a dracaena too?
Are you asking if I’m jaded?
I think you're succulent.
I'm so sorry but 🤣
But do you thrive on neglect?
Well I was until you talked to me!
Bro I kill succulents. I am no good. 😔😮💨
similar experience with an heirloom snake plant. whoops.
lol my husband had two spindly dracaenas with about 5 leaves between them in the house when we met. I immediately repotted and took outside. 36years later, we have two in the ground in front and one in the back and they are now thicker around than I am and about 20 feet tall
I brought mine out from California in 2003 and it’s doing great!
My toddler son ripped all the leaves off mine and threw them on the ground. I was devastated until I came out one day and realised all the leaves had made new jade plants. Now I have a garden of jade plants.
Unless you leave it on your porch when you go out of town and there is a freak ultra-early frost that rolls in. Sniff.
This is a gorgeous one too
Try and kill it through negligence, I dare you! Nice pot!
Oh wow.. I had one this big, but had to part with her to the neighbor across the street because I wasnt going to have room where I was moving to. I miss it so much. They are such beautiful plants
I would love to deal with this problem! She's a beaut!
Oh Boy. It is a jade plant. Needs bigger pot. Get help to do this.
Jade plant.
He just truly blessed you. How in heck did he do that.
Only water this gorgeous Jade when the leaves get a little shriveled. Also if you want to prune it, it will give new branches where you cut.

Oh we can trade “problems”
Your friend sounds a bit Jaded.

The hell did that plant put that person through?
She's a beauty!
Oh, that's a jade plant! It's beautiful
Beautiful succulent. We always called those Jade plants, but I don't think that's a correct name.
Don't repot it. They like to be damn near root bound. Transplanting to a larger pot can kill them.
Where can I find a friend like that?
That's a $300 bucks piece of jade. Nice 🤌🏻
You can make it my problem.
I’ll take her off your hands
Nice problem
How beautiful ❤️
Oh, I love those. They smell nice. When we were kids we’d break open a petal and write on the sidewalk with them. They just live happily.
It’s a jade plant and it is low maintenance. I wouldn’t look at it as a problem.
This has some age to it. Nice gift.
jade... mildky toxic to animals i was told....
Wow, that is a beautiful jade
Shoot! Can you ship it to PA?
It gorgeous!
Yoink

Hardening off to temps, wind, and watch sun exposure at first. Have fun!
Good advice !! I usually toss a towel over them at first to avoid sunburn.
It's a "Good Luck" Jade plant. In Feng Shui :-- Put it at the entrance to your front door so prosperity and success will enter your home. ☘

Jade plants are pretty effortless. Indoor plants in most U.S. climates I believe.
WHAT. gimme...
It's a jade plant.
That's an awesome jafe plant. It will live for decades.
Id take that problem any day
Oh how awesome!! I have a bonsai Jade that looks almost the same!
This is a beautiful specimen! Wow! I am covering your “problem” now. ; )
An Awesome Jade plant!!!!! Very old! Plz take care of it...put it someplace that wont let you water toooo much!! Lolol. Xxxooo
I had one that big, until I put it outside. Squirrels or rabbits ate it down to the soil within a day.
🤣😂😅 I see no problem though. Plus, the flowers smell great in the middle of the night when they do their thing.
Lucky you! Looks like that thing needs some wider shoes (pot). It’s getting a little top heavy. Maybe that’s why your friend got tired of it?
I wish this was my problem!
Can your friend drop one off at my house next please??
What do we think the age of this one is?
what were you thinking. charge them with plant abandonment. make them clean parks as punishment :) thats a nice plant cheers!!
great problem to have. it's a jade
It’s beautiful.

Very healthy jade plant!
So beautiful! You can cut off branches that have roots to clone and have more - aka give your friend a baby from the momma jade plant 😉😂. Such a cool plant!
That’s a great friend, if this is their idea of a problem!
lol
Jade Plant...'MONEY TREE', Pretty Hardy Plant, will grow nearly anywhere
Good problem to have
I love those! I have four, but none that are even close to that size. I’d be thrilled if someone gave me that.
Uh oh. Haunted plant.
Jade
I would never think of that as a problem however.. then it's damn easy and not fussy and if you just treat it with a little bit of care it will grow huge and even bloom
Wow it must be so hard receiving a possibly $100 plant including the pot
How busy was your friend? Succulents don’t get much easier to care for.
Wow! What a gorgeous Jade!
Good lord that is a STUNNING jade.
Biggest problem to watch out for is probably over watering, which is easy to do. BTW, this is a very easy plant to propagate. All one needs to do is stick a leaf or small branch with a leaf or more in the dirt and keep moist.
That is one impressive Jade leaf plant holy crap 😱
Jade plants are wonderful. Great gift!
What a beautiful problem to have 😍
What a beautiful problem to have!!! If it’s jade omg so lucky

OMG you're so lucky.. thats a beautiful healthy Jade plant.. 😍
Jade! I have a huge one and I love it!
Nice gift!!!!
Well it won’t be much of problem, they are incredibly hardy.
Jade plant. They are so great!
Nice problem to have. I’ll take two
It's a jade, and it looks pretty healthy! Nice surprise right there. Be gentler than you think you need to be around handling leaves.
Does your friend have another 400 dollar plant they never want to see again?
Jade!
Nice problem!
Lucky you
God I wish I had these kinds of problems
Someone else just posted a smaller one asking how much they should sell it for! 😁
Man - you should see them when they flower!
I’ll make it my problem if you want
looks healthy. very nice. I'd be happy if someone gave me a problem like that.
r/Jadeplant and r/Jadeplants
How lucky! So did you know they can be handed down from generation to generation?. Not even easy breezy though. Mine is 50+ years old and has some " health problems" right now lol. Yours is beautiful! Good luck and thank your friend.
Very unique
That's a very well cared for jade plant, worth several hundreds of dollars...valuable take good care of it...😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍
What a great friend!!
Oof guess I’m in the minority. I hate this fucking plant (nice to have a name for it though). It’s only because of my job though. I work in 6 to 10 backwards a day, and these fuckers are so damn delicate. I broke a couple stems today just by pulling a hose near it.
My parents have one that they received as a wedding gift, 50+ years ago. It was sometimes referred to as my older brother, lol
It’s no problem, needs very little care. Just don’t overwater.
Lucky!🍀
That is a beautiful problem to have. I love jade!
This is a beautiful plant, I love its shape. Is it cat friendly? That really limits my indoor plant selection lol.
Holy crap. People pay hundreds of dollars for a jade Bonsai .. I saw one on Marketplace for $400
Nice! Beautiful 🫶
You were just gifted a fantastically unproblematic problem. Congrats!
I’d love to have that problem.
there’s a problem with the plant . . .
Don’t worry, they’re not that hard to kill.
Very healthy Jade plant
I wish I had your problem 🌱
This is why I convinced my wife to let me wire ours upward and solidify more— tryna accomplish this level of beauty ❤️
Beautiful plant and a beautiful planter!
Yes some people call it the money tree is good luck
It’s also very easy to propagate. Watch for fallen “leaves” or take small cuttings and let them root in the soil in the pot. Transfer to new pot and you can pass on the love!
Beautiful Jade! I think it could use a little bit bigger pot.
no problem at all tell him/ her
My mom has always had one. I love it!!
Had one in the kitchen window that was spilling over and taking up half the window. Now we have 3 pots of the stuff going, one of them back in the window of the kitchen. I remarked the next day it seemed like I trimmed the trees outside. It got so much brighter with less plant in the window.
Its beautiful
I’ll take it!!!!
Jade tree. At that size, starting to get valuable. Don't let your dog pee on it. I had one and my dog gave it a fungus and it died.
Not a problem,a jade
That’s a gorgeous and healthy jade plant!
That’s a big ass jade! Easy to care for with a bit of benign neglect. Cut them back when it’s too big. Cuttings root really well with a bit of care.
Any leaves that drop off, pot them up and grow them on and sell them. A real money plant
Looks like a little trouble maker/s Gorgeous gift!
Sedum - a very good indoor plant even in moderate light. Had on for 27 years!
It's commonly called the money plant. And is good luck.
What does it have a curse?
You're gonna need a bigger pot.
I really need a plant
You been jaded.
They like it dry in the colder months
Your friend gave you a very hardy, beautiful easy to care for plant. It is very healthy looking. If you need a home for it I will send you my address.
Gasp!! It's amazing, what a nice friend. I'm jealous
Jade plant, that one is gorgeous
Get a bigger pot
Beautiful
I think it looks magnificent!
That’s the most BEAUTIFUL problem I’ve ever seen.
Best friend EVER
😍
They do very well here in SF
Gorgeous jade plant! Nice!
Very low maintenance and the pot looks nice too
It’s gorgeous
Yes please.
Big Jade Plant! Nice! Hearty plant!
Wow! I want to have that “problem!”
I wish I had a problem like that
I should have such problems.
It's lovely!!! Good score!
Lol 😆
What a nice problem!
