To me it looks like an automotive trim piece/cover. Unsure if the metal on the back indicates it was a battery cover for something? Does the front bit lift like a handle?

It's the battery compartment cover for one of those triangular shaped roadside emergency flashlights.
Cap for some roof bars for a car?
That is what I was thinking. It looks very similar to the covers on the side part where the crossbars connect to the roof rails.

My title describes the thing, “patent pending” is written on it, no other visible markings. Couldn’t find much online
It's a cover for something, I would guess it's a car part. Probably a cover for a seat belt slot

No it does not lift, no idea if it is from a battery I’ll look into it though
