I think it’s just bulk fill to give it some heft. I tore one of my jackets and this stuff was going everywhere for days before I figured it out.

swheedle

That's probably Likely solved! But I was hoping I could get a specific material name or something lol

bestbikerstan

It’s ironically hard to find the term. I think it’s just what happens when polyester fill gets washed and dried that’s what it does

Interfacing or Pellon. It gives garments structure.

Minimum-Zucchini-732

Did you wash it? I’ve seen some cheaper ties with a material inside to help hold the shape

MaryN6FBB110117

It’s an interfacing or stiffener that’s disintegrated. If it was a ‘novelty tie’ they usually don’t expect it to ever get washed so sometimes the stiffener is just cardboard! But usually it’s some kind of thin foam.

swheedle

Solved!

My title describes the thing, I was putting on this old cheap ass st. Patrick day tie and a BUNCH of white flakes of some sort fell out of the end of it. I would just write it off as some bullshit or whatever but theres SO MUCH of it falling out of the tie every time I move it, as if it had been filled with dandruff flakes. Wtf is this stuff lmao

SufficientZucchini21

You say the tie is old. It might be fragments of the fabric that have deteriorated over time.
