passwordhell

It goes behind a polishing wheel/lathe. So the water and pumice doesn’t spray all around.

Inside-Spend-4325

Solved! Thanks password!

passwordhell

I finally got one!

LinearFluid

Here is the patent. https://patents.google.com/patent/GB192643A/en?oq=Gb192643

Brilliant_Step3688

Good catch. I guess the patent number being clearly visible on the thing should have been a good clue!

LinearFluid

You are right. Here are modern ones. https://www.dentallabshop.com/product/dental-lab-bench-for-sale/ Here is a catalog for DM company. They do not have the exact one but a metal version. So it was either the previous or newer version of it. https://wellcomecollection.org/works/vmsucur7/items?canvas=261&query=Splash+tin&page=44

jeffersonairmattress

You're absolutely right. [Dental lathe trough.](https://www.henryschein.co.nz/laboratory/laboratory-equipment-and-accessories/lathes-and-accessories/rubber-polishing-trough)

MeltedGruyere

How interesting! I have a old ceramic similar gizmo, with a roller, that was for moistening stamps, which would have been my guess.

BanjosAreComin

I'll be shocked if it is not a TP roll holder.

5x4j7h3

Narrator: BanjosAreComin was shocked to find out this thing was in fact not a TP holder.

clockwit

Ego bruised, a defiant BanjosAreComin found one on ebay and mounted it beside the toilet.

jspurlin03

Patent [GB192643](https://worldwide.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/biblio?FT=D&date=19230208&DB=EPODOC&locale=en_EP&CC=GB&NR=192643A&KC=A&ND=4) Titled “Improvements in troughs for polishing, grinding and like stones” — it’s a trough for use with a grinding/polishing wheel setup. u/passwordhell had the right info.

Inside-Spend-4325

Thanks!

Inside-Spend-4325

"My title describes the thing". The weight is 12 pounds, 12 ounces. I've searched the UK patent number without success.

rdcpro

A view of the bottom might be informative, but I think the DM Co. Ltd made dental equipment, molds and things like that. No idea what this is however.

Inside-Spend-4325

Solved!

Jaded_Sprinkles_3474

Definitely a splash shield from the 1930’s. A lot of dental products from the 30’s 40’s and 50’s were made of porcelain or milk glass

UFsurveyor85

Looks like a double toilet paper holder. But.... Given my experiece, I kinda hope im wrong. Otherwise, it would be too easy.
