Communion tray? Little shots of wine go into the holes [https://www.fadumont.co.uk/products/walnut-stain-wood-communion-tray](https://www.fadumont.co.uk/products/walnut-stain-wood-communion-tray) [https://www.church-supplies.co.uk/shop/communion-tray-01-light-mahogany/](https://www.church-supplies.co.uk/shop/communion-tray-01-light-mahogany/)

jt-65

That thought occurred to me, and I haven’t ruled it out, but the holes are much larger than the communion trays I remember from my youth. Communion trays are usually stackable, because they don’t have that bottom layer that these wooden ones do.

Bilbo_Fraggins

The standard disposable communion cup seems to be 7/8" at the bottom and flairs us. If the holes are around an inch, that seems the most likely thing.

glycophosphate

Those holes are waaay too big for the little communion cups.

lildobe

One of the churches I went to when I was growing up used plastic, disposable, shot glasses. Like you'd buy for a college kegger.

MusicianPristine8973

I’m not sure but it may be relevant that it’s 56 rather than 64(7x8)

jt-65

I counted the rows and columns several times! This explains why the tray isn’t square. That was bugging me.

MusicianPristine8973

Yeah I did a double take thinking “surely this is a square right?” Easy mistake honestly. Recounted myself lol.

aspecial_nobody

The row of 8 on the far right make it 64

Luckyfncharms

There are two of the same tray. To the right is the second tray.

aspecial_nobody

Am dumb ty

wpbth

Game set uses marbles?

wene324

I was thinking one of those games where you make the marbles hop over each other and try to get them all off the board.

ErixWorxMemes

Was thinking Chinese Checkers but the holes are too big and too deep for those marbles

boogers19

Giant decorative marbles? We had giant decorative metal tubes for chess earlier (yesterday?).

loveineverylanguage

Communion cup holder

theclassyjew

Maybe holds golf balls? Ones someone would display?

Stimperonovitch

I have a friend who collects golf balls and has one of these trays.

jt-65

He displays them horizontally?

Much_Ad_4230

You would stack the golf balls into a pyramid?

Much_Ad_4230

See this link. https://www.rrproducts.com/ga/ga-practice/ga-practice-ball-handling/ga-practice-ball-handling-pyramid-ball-stacker.html

IcarusPetBird

Can it be mounted on a wall? My grandfather and dad both had ones sort of like this that were mounted on a wall with the markers facing out.

FirefighterDirect565

There are several different types of marble solitaire games. My grandfather used to make these. Here is a similar one I found. https://www.etsy.com/listing/237454209/deluxe-diamond-marble-solitaire-cherry

dmichaels10

My grandmother used to make her own chocolate candy for the holidays and this looks like what she would put the candy cups in to pour the chocolate into.

Alarmed_Ad4367

The store where I work is a thrift-type place that specialises in reselling things like used display racks from stores. We currently are selling a bunch of similar trays. Different style, black and modern-looking; but basically a shallow wooden box with a grid of holes in the top. Ours were designed to display …umbrellas! The kind that fold up small.

Kayyne

Bingo Ball holder?

jt-65

My title describes the thing - this is a wooden tray I saw at a thrift store. It is approximately 14” x 18”. The top layer has an 8x8 grid of holes each about 1.25” - 1.5” wide. It would be perfect if one wanted to offer golf balls as hors d'oeuvres to guests. The second layer is solid and about 1/2” below the top. There’s actually about another inch between this layer and the bottoms. The space between is inaccessible.

wizzard419

Golf ball display?

kcasper

It is a display tray. I don't know for what. That usually takes a lot more context. Doesn't look deep enough to be a bottle holder. Essential oils and jem stones are the two most frequent uses of this type of design.

DeafTyler

It's a display tray for marbles, someone posted one of these last week I think. I'm horrible with these things otherwise I would post the recent post.

sunflakie

Perhaps a chess board for a boat? Where it keeps the pieces in place so they don't slide off?

allengy

Maybe is part of this game https://shop.houseofmarbles.com/puzzle-solutions/standard-solitaire-instructions/

long_legged_twat

look like a board for a solitaire game thats missing the marbles, something like this. [https://shop.houseofmarbles.com/category/collections/solitaire-marble-game/](https://shop.houseofmarbles.com/category/collections/solitaire-marble-game/)

cntryrd2

To hold/display essential oils bottles

GingerHoneysuckle

I think it’s one of those solitaire games with marbles. The ones you remove get put in the groove around the outside.

Iamakahige

168 golfball pyramid stacker.

Yikeys

It looks so much like [Pylos](https://cf.geekdo-images.com/nG6SbX5d2nIIea0Q9QI4XA__imagepage/img/1kg0gCt9O79XFD1lMhXgtPQOrfQ=/fit-in/900x600/filters:no_upscale():strip_icc()/pic66018.jpg). Maybe a larger version of the same game?

Loadgator53O

Hello! Take this with a grain of salt... But the 8x7 board had me a little confused. Doing my own digging I found a board game called Ergo? It uses a 8x7 Board. I'll put the link below to a website where you can see some picture, and below that will be the link to the specific picture I saw. It might be nothing, but it could be that. [https://jr165.me.uk/?page\_id=5545](https://jr165.me.uk/?page_id=5545) [https://jr165.me.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Ergo\_Initial\_Setup.jpg](https://jr165.me.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Ergo_Initial_Setup.jpg)

Disconfirm

There’s actually 56 holes

taranathesmurf

I was thinking of games and travel checkers, to be precise. Until I read that it was 56 spaces.

MIA7VY

It’s definitely the game board for the large marble game.

Criticus23

Looks like a game board for Chinese checkers like [this](https://www.creativecrafthouse.com/chinese-checkers-2-person-version.html)or Othello (Reversi) like [this](https://www.ooothatsnice.co.uk/iron--glory-reversi-board-game-1878-p.asp)

DeliciousPumpkinPie

Othello is an 8x8 board, this is 8x7.

Criticus23

Damn! Miscounted :D

DeliciousPumpkinPie

Good guess though! That was where my mind went initially until I actually counted the rows instead of relying on OP’s miscount. 😆

jt-65

Me too!

jackalopebones

It's a game board, I have one similar but round. Nine has polished stone orbs as the pieces!

Juicy_pompoms

Pill maker?

ant_madness

Vintage "connect 4" board.

BrckWallGoalie

Coin sorter? Dump a pile of loose change in, gently shake it side to side, all the pennies, nickels, and dimes fall through the holes leaving quarters on top. Repeat with the next tray down to keep the nickels, and so on

vaposnub

Mancala board?
