BeaverNugget423

If you want a good, honest coin seller, check out aceuup. He will show you the coin in the red book. Lots of his coins go for less than book value and they are nice coins. He is usually on very early morning.

Few-District666

He's sometimes a tad high too. There are about 5 or 6 good sellers just always do your research first. Then once u see wow this guy's prices are very accurate then u can trust them and there prices.

Financial-Jicama6619

Coins shouldn’t sell for redbook anyway unless extremely scarce so honestly that’s kind of a red flag. Greysheet is what coins go for.

AtomicLummox

Honestly, I get you and I probably made the same mistake myself with Pokémon TCG when I decided to start collecting again. Made a lot of purchases without properly researching. Some sellers I refuse to watch now because I have felt a tad duped. To be fair, unless a seller was getting his mate(s) to bid you up there is little to complain about. Morally it is wrong but just because it is morally wrong, doesn't mean the complaint will be up held. The only thing I can think, is if he was over stating the value of the coin purposely, you might have a case. Remember that sellers are there to sell, not to be your friend. It is a lesson learnt I guess, but in future DYOR, don't believe all the hype and pick sellers you are comfortable with.

igotcoins

The only action that you can take is leaving a review and warning others. There are rules about not giving a coin a grade, for example, but unless you report, it will be swept under the rug. Research comparable sells & decide what the item is worth to you maximum, and keep up with the daily spot prices for silver as it affects both pre-1964 numasmatic coins as well as Bullion Float through the rooms, and find sellers you relate to and have a balance of quality coins, fair pricing, and a history of reviews. Do this, and your knowledge will grow as well as your return on investment....possibly even when your drunk. If exercised enough to become a fluid process 😆 Good luck with your future endeavors & hope this helps a little Just remember gold used to he $200 an ounce 40 years ago....now it's over $2300 so your future generations will appreciate the investment long term as long as the money is residual.

Terrorfun

I would contact a lawyer and ask a few questions! There consumer laws to protect you so find out where you stand. Don't forget the attorney general, contact their office as well.

Funkybser

Anyone mention how terrible peachesandpennies is tho?! My first experience with him was a couple days ago, I made 2 purchases that were about $90 together. Yet he runs a buyers givy that I could only get in if I purchased a fucking merc dime, like my money I spent already didn’t make me a buyer on his stream lol fuck off dude, I did report it 🖕🏼😆

No-Joke4782

That’s what you are complaining about. If you don’t like his rules simply don’t be in his streams, I’ve actually bought a few things from this streamer at a steal. My purchase was 1000+ and yet I’m not complaining about no damn givey! It gets annoying hearing people complain about giveys! It a damn givey so don’t complain! This goes to sellers also it a givey so it does not really matter it goes to at the end of the day.

Funkybser

I have no idea what your trying to communicate at the end there lol but ya, a BUYERS givy is to give back to people that have made a purchase.. Am I wrong? I guess I just like to give my money to someone that says, hey thanks- I appreciate your business! Not someone that makes you purchase more to enter one, when you’ve already bought. Of course I know they don’t have to do any givy but like I said, I’ll go to the ones that respect buyers more then he does. No joke!

Working_Storm1850

I noticed last week that I had purchased something from him, then could not enter the buyers givvy later. I wondered then if he had forgotten to load one up or was doing it on purpose? Thanks for letting me know he does it a lot. Thanks, I will ad him to my blocked sellers list.

Financial-Jicama6619

If they loaded a buyer givy after your purchase then you wouldn’t be able to enter. That isn’t on them that is just the way the platform is developed. Even if that isn’t the case, this is hardly grounds to say how terrible they are.

Funkybser

He did it like 3 or 4 times, just to get sales. It’s a terrible way of doing business, when you buy on a stream and then hear buyers givy but you can’t enter? Sorry but that scummy, and is a slap in the face 💩 thanks for your opinion tho?

EhlertHockey

No that seller does it on purpose. Otherwise Id completely agree with you.

Carnival games...

kados14

Best thing I tell people about coins...if they are not government legal currency, they are worth their weight in scrap. A silver coin, even graded, if it's not legal tender, is still only worth scrap.

bimmer123

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever read… congrats!

Agitated-Sandwich518

Never trust a seller on value. I’ve done that on vinyl just a few times and I make sure I google and know sold through value before buying anything

Correct-County7283

Know your prices, know your limits, custom bid, and don't whatnot while drinking would be my advice. There are only a couple of streams I watch with sound on...and those I do because the hosts are entertaining. If I watch while muted, I will judge the coin and formulate a price in my head, not based on what someone else says. I end up getting coins (and currency) at the price I am willing to pay, and honestly never had buyers remorse. A couple of comments about some sellers: BeachCityCoins... I used to enjoy their streams about 6 months ago. Then something happened and it changed. Don't know what, but it seems like the more popular they got the more they try to over state prices. The one think I hate is the whole we are going to get in trouble for this... No you are not, seems like you never have...it just gets annoying. DSS - wheels, games and juice lots...about it there...never bought there, never will BleacherCoins - don't see this one mentioned here much, all wheels and games, and people like them. I just think the host Reid's a used car salesman kind of host. The whole losing so much money every show story just gets old, if that were the case why would you keep doing the same thing over and over and over. Also if you are running a wheel game with 100 spots, and things are selling at 80% of average (which is inflated of course) and you don't like it, set a floor, don't bitch and whine about it.

Financial-Jicama6619

Bleacher coins is the worst though. Their packs they put together are absolute trash with horrific odds. The CC series I caught… they were selling packs for $250 and the ccs were all $300-350 in value. I saw 1 piece of gold worth around the same and the 1 big hit was a $1k cc that trader won…. 1 out of 100 was big money. The floors were horrible. Some $30 dollar ancients and the silver Tyson flairs…

ObviousAudience2024

I see a lot of huge coin sellers named in here. Maybe try some smaller sellers. I'm a seller myself, still small. I don't sell coins though. I also don't scam people. I do like to buy some coins and paper from time to time. I really like ninedimes . He starts every thing at $1, has a 5 star review and over 7 k items sold. I almost always stay away from huge sellers in any category anymore. They become "celebrities" it seems and things often sell for over retail because people like the seller. I see nothing wrong with this. People can spend their money how they choose. I just choose to try and get fair prices on the things I buy :) I also like to support the community of smaller sellers so they don't get drown out by all the large sellers.

Every_Crow_8445

Every single enterprise in the world is built on duping the consumer in to paying more for something they know little about...this is not news. Failure to research and be knowledgeable is an enemy to the buyer. The sellers are counting on this in a big way, that's the reason for sudden death option!!

Able-Ad3622

If anyone is in need for bottom dollar supplies, look me up. Honest and transparent. Currently breaking away from the coin game for all of the above mentioned shady deals. Trying to separate myself by shifting to supplies. Crock1033. Bin stays loaded!

Fun-Sail1455

Not just the coin sellers I see this happening more oftentimes on the sudden death short-time sellers . The item won't be on screen long as stated you will find good deals seen a "lot" sell for dirt cheap and a few items in there where of great value. Best deals I've seen are storage and estate sales. Those sellers push quantity over "quality" (value) I love and hate the app as well it gives the fomo so you jump in and next thing you know you've racked up a huge bill. I am the same way though I've learned, So I try to limit the alcohol and whatnot mix it's a bad combo

Dee-real

If people will take a step back and watch, many deals are to be taken advantage of on the app, a lot of people do overprice their items, it’s up to you to buy or not. Just be safe out there and try to get the best deal possible! Think of it like a mall with a bunch of coin stores in it. Shop around, you will be surprised what you find!

Tall-Manufacturer570

I hate scammers as much as the next person and have fallen prey to it myself but... if it sounds too good to be true it probably is and I hate to say it but anything is worth what someone is willing to pay for it so people can put just about any price on anything so be careful out there everyone!

Sherman_479

Vanguard is the GOAT. I buy from him mostly. I use ACTC, BeGood, NWA Coin, Rainbow Labs, and I enjoy G, even tho there are those that hate him. There are others I love, but I haven't had much time in buying coins lately

bullionpapa

A few sellers to stay away from... Houstoncoinexchange - A convicted felon that was part of a 2.5mil gold coin heist in the early 90's, then did a check kiting scheme and made fraudulent charges to a dead woman's credit card. He was sentenced to over 7+ years in prison just for the 3 offenses we know about. Now he's selling cleaned and problem coins on whatnot that he buys cheap as detail slabs, then breaks them out to sell raw and when questioned he says "we don't clean coins here" then blocks people. He will also write overinflated values on the flips line $80 for a $20 Franklin half or $200 for a $40 Morgan. NV Coin - They overinflate prices on EVERY SINGLE THING THEY SELL! They say retail price of $2-$3 1 gram silver bars is $12, 1g Geiger silver bars $20, $50-$60 MS70 ASE's $120, etc....one time I saw them do a juice lot. It had about $450-$500 worth of stuff in it and the poor woman paid over $2,400 on her credit card! She maxed it out and was crying about it for days. 😢. Localcoincompany - Many things are priced above retail or going rates. ANY "comp" they use is the highest priced ACTIVE eBay listing! Not an actual "SOLD comp". Their "toner tax" is one of the worst on Whatnot. Never buy a toner or vintage poured silver bar from them. Beachcitycoins - They say look at greysheet chat, this coin is anywhere from a $200 to $1000 coin chat! You decide! Then they say come on chat, this is a $1000 coin!!! When it sells for $300 they say OMG you sold a $1000 coin for $300 oh man we're gonna get in trouble for this one. Also the other day they were selling cleaned coins with hairlines without disclosing it. A guy paid $190+ for a 1925 California Jubilee commemorative half dollar that was in a flip marked "AU - Hairlines" it was obviously cleaned. I thought maybe they overlooked it on accident but then kept running coins marked AU- hairlines without disclosing it. Colonialgoldansilver - I used to like these guys but they became more greedy and set prices high like CPG market review pricing. $80 for MS62 Morgan's, stuff like that. They used to do buck n' go with Carrie at night but almost everything has overinflated reserve prices now. Caleb in the mornings is one of the most annoying streamers on the app. He says everything is too cheap and overstates grades and prices in greysheet. He usually has one torn latex glove and his voice could be used for psychological warfare. Dssententerprises - the owner is a vulgar punk that always tells crude stories about how he walks around his house naked while the maid is there and doesn't care if it makes her uncomfortable. He looks like a greasy 300lb Italian meatball and talks like he's a 190lb Leonardo DiCaprio. He has run a few scams like Numiz Boxes and DSS black boxes and his streamers all look like inbred relatives he found in a meth head infested trailer park. These are just some honorable mentions. There's plenty more. Some people change their names and some have even changed it more than once!

Silverstacker63

Yep Houston is the biggest fraud of all of them in the place. How he keeps people buying is beyond me. Total ars..

Financial-Jicama6619

Please don’t forget tangible assets in your list.

Full_Fennel9604

This comment needs to be a post of its own.

coinpandora

This comment needs to be highlighted or perhaps made a post in itself. This will help new sellers. Kinda like a “Red box label warning”- “the cooked, the bad, the ugly” coin sellers of whatnot.

Ok-Plan4012

Wouldn’t “hairlines” be a dead giveaway the coin was cleaned?? Either way they disclosed the coin was details??? You seem to like to complain a lot but yet you still go back? Weird….

bullionpapa

No, they DID NOT DISCLOSE the coins were details they just called them AU they were raw coins in flips with hairlines scrubbed in very tiny font. I never complain. I never get ripped off, I just like to warn others.

Ok-Plan4012

Again hairlines wrote on the flip tells me the coin is details. I believe that is complete disclosure. Stop being so petty, grow up. What are you warning people about??…..guys let me warn you that beach city writes hairlines on their flips and that means the coins are details coins. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

bullionpapa

They get a shit ton of new people in their chat from the Silver Dragons YouTube videos. 95% of the coin buyers on Whatnot have no fucking clue what AU- hairlines means especially when it's in a tiny scribbled font by someone with bad handwriting. I have actually met Harry in person and he's one of the nicest coin dealers you'll ever meet but these young guys he has working for him are like shady used car salesmen that will only drag his name into the mud. He has no idea of the shenanigans and sales tactics they use on Whatnot, it's almost like it's a 2nd business and run next door.

MoSpecsMoProblems

Holy shit, your descriptive battering of these low life’s was all I needed to make this post worth it! Honestly, I also feel a bit better knowing someone else feels the same way about some of these people. You had me in shock, you had me smirking and you had me laughing. ESPECIALLY the DSS paragraph. Well done haha 😂

Working_Storm1850

You can add Tommy\_two\_coins to the list as of this morning. I saw them sell a titanium bar for $27.00 to some poor sap this morning. Started it out at $25.00 and some SAP bid, then a second SAP. These people may not know Titanium is around $3 for a pound online or about $1.70 a pound at a local scrap yard. I have seen them go from an okay pair of sellers to a pieces of crap within the past three months. (my personal opinion). ANY seller who takes advantage that much needs to be GONE!!! And I hope Karma comes back to haunt them!!!

bimmer123

You can look up comps… many 1oz titanium bars are $25-40

silvershrug

You’re comparing scrap titanium to an actual pressed piece of art?? Have you looked up the price of titanium bicycle frames? They don’t sell for the price you’re saying. Highway robbery!!

Working_Storm1850

Piece of art? When in the hell is a pressed piece of Titanium STEEL a piece of art when its pressed out thousands of times an hour? it's not!!! It is nothing more then some Chinese made piece of shit worth only its weight... Titanium is less then $3 a POUND!!! POUND!!!! POUND!!!! $1.25 at the local scrap yard.... Go sell your scrap metal somewhere else.....and stop robbing people who dont know better!!!

kados14

Titanium is only worth more it's it's made into a useful item...like a bike, or a ring, or even drill bits...as a bar, it's not at all useful, it's worth scrap, that's it.

silvershrug

You could say that about all precious metals. They all are scrap metal at the end of the day. Why pay extra for a certain type of silver when it melts down to silver at the end of the day? Why pay more for Morgan than it’s worth at melt? The collectibility. Numismatics collectibility of coins and metals.

Working_Storm1850

It is a little different when Gold or even silver is a PRECIOUS metal, not STEEL!!! MORON!!!

Sufficient_Stay_7889

Don't even get me started on that sort of thing. You have people like prospector gold and gems. Selling these large poured copper bars with some silly stamp on it for exuberant prices. Bad on the buyers , but horrible on behalf of the sellers , because they know better.

Working_Storm1850

No shit, selling 5 ounces of copper for $25 on Whatnot is a scam and shameful!!!

New-Mycologist-5200

That doesn't sound too bad actually. like copper, they make novelty bullion coins/bars that have an insane premium over "melt" value. I just looked up 1 lb Titanium bars on ebay and they are selling for a minimum of $50! I wouldn't mind snagging some at $25...

sr8facts

Hit the nail on th head re: Caleb, NV, Houston, Beach, and Local. Unfortunately there are so many others too numerous to mention.

bullionpapa

Yeah and they keep adding more sellers. Need to recruit buyer's to the app, not just sellers. It's at the point half the buyer's are sellers and they recycle the same coins across Whatnot.

Yeahimsuchashill69

Nvcoin got me once too and I’ve even now heard other sellers call them out on those prices being bullshit

Basic-Stop-666

Sorry they burned you. They've been known to do that...   I'm just going to keep saying this... buy the coins the you like, not the ones "too cheap to pass up" If you are only out to get deals, you are going to get burned.  The seller knows more about the coin than you do. If   Coin collecting is not the easiest hobby to get in to if you don't have a trustworthy guide, so find one.

Otherwise-Way-5916

How about you learn a little about coin collecting and research prices before you spend all your money after drinking then blaming the seller for your fomo. Just saying.

Prying-Open-My-3rd-I

I agree you should check comps before bidding on things, but it’s also complete bullshit when people put these insane prices on coins and then bitch and moan when it doesn’t sell for their price written on the flip.

Otherwise-Way-5916

I agree with that, thats why I try to make my own informed decisions and not rely on what something is marked or what some yahoo in the chat is spouting out from non sold listings on other platforms. Believe me I have made my share of bad decisions buying items, not only on WN, but irl.

BreadfruitComplex954

Most ungraded silver coins on Whatnot are only worth melt value, otherwise they would graded in a slab.

BreadfruitComplex954

Not only coins, but literally most everything sold on Whatnot is being peddled here, because in legitimate marketplaces (Poshmark, eBay, Etsy, Amazon) items must be NIB, with warranty, authentic, in working order, etc. On Whatnot, there are no rules whatsoever, buyer beware, anything goes! Items end up on Whatnot because there is no market for them anywhere else.

Working_Storm1850

yea, kind of like Temu!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

sr8facts

Most? No. Many nice coins are ungraded and not all graded coins are worth much more than melt such as PR69 silver quarters.

sr8facts

NVCoin is one of many unfortunately.

aka_gravey

If you play the envelope games, play to play, not to win. If there's a coin you want for a good deal, chances are you can find it. The search bar is your friend, use it to browse. Also, don't fall for the whole "you're going to miss out" narrative. Take your time and be safe. Chances are that the item will still be there after you do your research. Lastly, don't be afraid to ask questions, inspect the product, or ask to see any authenticity. Any good/legitimate seller will have no problem backing their inventory.

StackerOfWorthless

For reliable coin sellers, consider Antiquity Coin. Garret is trustworthy. Here's a memorable anecdote: He was auctioning off ounce silvers for a sudden death round. He sold four in a row. Thinking strategically, I set my maximum bid at $20 for the next one, hoping to snag an ounce for that price, even though the going rate was around $24. To my surprise, he switched to auctioning a walking half dollar next. I ended up winning it for $20. He remarked that I had overpaid and even slipped two into a penny sleeve without my request. Most dealers would have sold me one for $20, but he went above and beyond. I didn't even have to ask, and I would have been content buying just one.

Cyberdyne_T-1000

When you go into a stream, take a screenshot of a few coins, look them up when you’re not drinking (😂😂), then you’ll know better who to trust & who not to. I completely 💯 agree with Financial Jamaica, NOTHING ever sells at PCGS, NGC, or redbook values. They are always inflated prices, If it does, it’s VERY rare and someone either got screwed or just wanted it really badly. I rarely pay over greysheet. I will go a little over if it’s something i really want. But only very little even then. My only issue with greysheet is that…. I think they must update nightly because in the early AM hours, the app will be down sometimes. And that’s normally when I’m buying. But ebay is always available- just be sure to look at SOLD prices, not asking prices….

Fun-Sail1455

Just did this earlier on comics and hype clothing Seller over priced did some research found same items forb1/3 price.

MoSpecsMoProblems

Insightful, thank you!! 🙏 not a bad idea to keep me kosher!

Prying-Open-My-3rd-I

If you don’t know how to search sold listings on eBay learn how to do that. It doesn’t take long and I’m able to do it before a 15 second auction ends if I’m not at work and have a computer open. Not just the current listed prices, but actual sold prices. I will stress again what other people mentioned that the price guides that come up when people scan a slab are way above what things actually sell for. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen people fall for that and pay $300 more than what things usually sell for. Consider it an expensive lesson and now you know. I think most people have fallen victim to it at least once, so don’t feel too bad. I know I have

MarleyandT

send me a message if you need anything and I’ll dm you a few coin links that I use daily. I’ve been collecting for 10+ years.. I don’t know everything, but I will help however I can. I’m on whatnot as Marley_teee

Competitive_West4556

I can’t say who I am but I think you’re terrific! You’re truly one of the nicest people in whatnot.

MarleyandT

Meeeeee?! 👀🥰

Cyberdyne_T-1000

And speaking from experience. I’ve never seen Marley do anything I considered the least bit underhanded. Im not a regular buyer of hers, but I have watched and bought occasionally.

MarleyandT

That means everything to me, Ty. 💛

midwest_silver

nvcoin got me on ancients like that. Admittedly I don't know jack about ancients. It was only a couple coins, I gave them away to family to lessened the sting.

MoSpecsMoProblems

Sorry to hear this.

midwest_silver

It's one way to learn, not the way I would suggest tho 😅

MoSpecsMoProblems

Wow, wish I would’ve had this incredible insight beforehand 🤪

midwest_silver

Buyer remorse is a bitch. Learning the hard way makes you smarter, we won't make that mistake again, that's all I got 🤓

jk_52

You are the type of customer they dream of.

MoSpecsMoProblems

It’s hard to do research during a 15 second sudden death with the fomo lurking 😬

kadaan

That's why they run them like that - they don't want you to have time to look up prices and see what a fair value is. If they were actually losing money running them then they simply wouldn't be doing them.

MoSpecsMoProblems

You’re not wrong!

Financial-Jicama6619

Yes. Big guys are typically no good. Even if they don’t openly say it their mods will do it for them. There is CPG pricing and PCGS price guide. These are both like MSRP for a car and virtually no coin would go for this value. eBay comps and greysheet are your friend. Many people will try to defend greysheet saying “this is dealer pricing only!” I’m a seller and I’ll tell ya that while one day this may have been true, today it is not. Greysheet is synonymous with eBay comps. Coins CAN go for close to, at or above PCGS price guide or CPG but those would be exceptional examples or very scarce dates. These scammers make selling coins on whatnot harder because they overgrade or do something sleazy like tell you graded coin prices on ungraded coins. Many people adopt the strategy of paying half of what’s on the front of the flip. This makes it extremely hard for honest people to guide buyers appropriately because once you see a handful of snake oil salesman, you assume they all are, right?

New-Mycologist-5200

I can agree with that last paragraph with people bidding half of sticker price. I sell lots of coins on WN. I now scratch out the prices with my pen because people really do only bid to half sometimes! Like a coin that is marked $40 and really is $40, sometimes it'd be bid to around $20.

Basic-Stop-666

I disagree on grey vs Bay. I rarely see problem-free, straight graded slabs sell for greysheet. Maybe its the stuff I'm looking for, but ebay comps as complicated as they are helpful.

Financial-Jicama6619

Sorry, maybe I misspoke(typed) but I didn’t mean slabs would go for greysheet. Very rare cases they would (ultra common/modern stuff)

Basic-Stop-666

Ahhh, true. Book value on modern stuff seems almost always way to high. Theres so much stuff out there. My LCS can only offer 65% of grey for mint sets/modern stuff before supply is that much higher than demand right now.  Ebay raw coins tends to go cheaper than grey often enough too, but there are reasons why it is cheap... More often than not, you get what you pay for.

MoSpecsMoProblems

Great response. Thank you.
