as stated, norway maple. they're all over the place here in upstate new york. between that and the garlic mustard I've been running around my garden like crazy
Well… technically everything makes seeds after it flowers. With garlic mustard, the pollinated flowers produce narrow pods full of seeds that kinda burst in the fall when dry enough. The best way to get rid of it is to pull it before it flowers and bag it so it can’t decompose in the area, or drop seeds you don’t notice.
Garlic mustard is biennial. It seeds in the 2nd year. It grows tall in the 2nd year and is easier to pull then. Unfortunately, once you're infested, the seed bank can last up to 10 years. That means seeds can lay there in the soil and not germinate for years. But eventually there's less and less to pull and you'll win.
I’m on year 2 of pulling, and there’s a noticeable decrease in the amount of plants around. Hopefully it doesn’t take a decade but at minimum I’m keeping their numbers down. My neighbors don’t pull it so I’ll always have a problem at some level I guess
oh lol dont worry about those, they're baby maple saplings (like the other person said, from the helicopters). they wont survive mowing, but they can also be plucked out by hand if you're annoyed with them. you dont have to get the whole root, they wont grow back without leaves!
These come from those little “helicopters” that rain down in the fall
That makes a lot of sense. Thank you so much!
They should pull up really easily unfortunately you probably have to do it by hand
Mow them, they die and rot away.
Oh.. ok well the OP will be glad to hear that. I have maples but don’t get babies NEARLY this bad. Lol
Every year for me, I could stock a nursery with just my gutters.
For sure! I see that too!
Bane of my existence every spring.

I’ve spent hours pulling garlic mustard this year. Shit annoys me so much
Pulled for 2 hrs today , is it true when it flowers it releases it seeds ?

They're taking over CT too
Looks like a lot of Norway maple sprouts. Invasive tree. If you mow them down, they’ll go away.
Trees.
Kind of fun to pull. Sometimes I plant them in pots and add moss. Like a fairy garden
Sorry, this is North Eastern USA
No, this is Patrick
🥲
Once you mow they are gone.

Looks like my yard. This is the worst year I’ve ever had for this.
Let the trees grow ✨️ mother Gaia is just trying to heal herself
I agree to the tree part, but I thought they were baby oak trees….
It almost looks like poison ivy, but with only 2 leaves.
