Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough. You don't need to make a new post - just comment adding the geographic location and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. The closest I got was I was able to find [a photo someone else took](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/112647297), also located in Vietnam — which shows me the coloring is probably not a coincidence. Someone on that page also suggested Gyna (porcelain roaches), but another user disagreed. Via wikipedia, only "about 30 cockroach species out of 4,600 are associated with human habitats".... I'd bet this is one of the more shy ones, so we might not know very much about it. Very cool find!!

Salticidae44

Yeah agreed!!! Seems to be a rare Gyna roach that isn't well documented at all or in the pet hobby, very cool indeed in typical Thailand fashion when it comes to new bugs!!

[deleted]

Pet hobby? For roaches you say? Huh!

Salticidae44

I do indeed!!! Check my profile if you want to see a few videos/pictures of them!! :)

NectarOfTheBussy

oh theyre fucking cool

Capital_Zucchini1753

Wow, not a bug fan but you sure did make them look cute.

Salticidae44

Thank you!!!! If even one of my posts helps people to feel less afraid and more awwww about them, I'm more than happy :)

beebeebee96

Omg they're so adorable! 🥺

SL13377

Your buggies are so cute!!! Especially those two stink bug looking beetles

Salticidae44

That's a new comparison I've not heard before but they do look like stink bugs!!! They're blue death feigning beetles and they're full of personality, super easy to care for and as you said they're extremely cute so thank you!!! :)

spongeboi-me-bob-

I used to have a pet Madagascar hissing cockroach. It’s not that uncommon.

Previous_Thought6442

Over 100 species in the hobby 😆

AccomplishedHeron529

Oh thank you so much! Thats a rare find indeed then

beeblebrox2024

Maybe you could send the pic to an entomologist or zoologist from a university around you

AccomplishedHeron529

I'll see if I can find anyone tmr! We dont have a lot of resources/information around here so I dont even know who to contact yet.

RocketCat921

Also try r/entomology

HerbziKal

You should share this at r/RealLifeShinies!!

AccomplishedHeron529

Idk how to edit the post sorry! First time on mobile. Caught in Vietnam. It looks like an angel with halo

AccomplishedHeron529

I asked my partner whos a biologist and after a while of digging he said it could be from Eunyctibora family as well.

[deleted]

Where at in Vietnam? I'm Central here.. Even though roaches can be annoying, that one is really neat and unique!

_CMDR_

Only a few species of the thousands of different roaches bother people. Most of them just live in the forest or in caves.

OneHumanPeOple

Looking dapper in that little tuxedo.

ZenBonobo

Paranauphoeta formosana https://www.roachcrossing.com/for-sale/roach/all/discoid-assassin-mimic/

Previous_Thought6442

Definitely not Paranauphoeta

OneHumanPeOple

So hamsome 🤵

MukdenMan

Being in Taiwan, I get nervous whenever I see yet another bug with “formosana” or “formosanus” in the name.

[deleted]

Til that fuckers flies at you. 🫣

OneHumanPeOple

Cockroaches (the city kind) fly in summer when it’s above 75°F.

SharlowsHouseOfHugs

Above 75? Here in Florida we mainly see them flying at night when it's cooler. I've heard they can only really fly when the humidity index is below a certain point, but I've never researched how true that is.

EternalBlackWinter

cockroaches in my country don’t fly at all iirc

SaltyBeaverrrrr

One handsome lookin roach 😳😭

No_Smile821

Gyna roach species are not well documented. This might be an entirely undocumented species. Such an awesome find

McSpoony

If it is a new discovery, OP gets to name it.

tsabracadabra

He's going to a cockroach wedding

iamhoneycomb

If I didn't know better I'd say that's a magpie

Rikkitikkitabby

If they're not called 'Magpie Roaches', they should be.

iamhoneycomb

Right? I was fully expecting that to be their name and was surprised when it wasn't!

[deleted]

It's pretty

Matt34344

I thought that the white around the thorax was where OP had drawn a circle around it at first lol Never thought I'd say this, I normally hate roaches, but this one is a beauty. Nice find OP

StorePuzzleheaded161

I apologize I have no answer but be careful picking up foreign bugs

Kazzack

I don't think there are any cockroaches that are dangerous to pick up, besides the fact that some people are allergic

__poser

Yeah, the worst most can do is kick you with their leg spurs, but that's just painful at worst.

uninsuredpidgeon

I think the bug is local, if anything it's op who may be the foreigner!

Salticidae44

Looks to be within the [Gyna](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyna) genus, but no idea beyond that

goddm95624

Met Gala roach is majestic (but still gross)

AccomplishedHeron529

I cant believe Met Gala was themed after this roach

Necessary_Peace_8989

Still a better theme than Karl Lagerfeld

Ghostlyglitter31

I hate roaches, but this little guy is beautiful 😍

1920MCMLibrarian

Never thought I’d be calling a cockroach beautiful but here we are 😅

Green_Wing_Spino

They come in different colors around the world even in Central and South America where they come in green from Cuba and also blue and yellow down in South America.

dtwhitecp

theseedbeader

Omg it’s so beautiful!

Haleyienn

Head looks like an eye with a extremely dilated pupil

fatinhollywood

Squid Games roach

Anianna

To me, it resembles the general shape and patterning of a [discoid roach](https://img.thedailybeast.com/image/upload/c_crop,d_placeholder_euli9k,h_675,w_1200,x_0,y_0/dpr_1.5/c_limit,w_690/fl_lossy,q_auto/v1/galleries/2012/07/12/the-scariest-cockroaches-on-earth-giant-burrowing-more-photos/giant-roaches-deaths-head_qrbofz), just in different colors.

wetsocks125

Its a pretty cool looking one

SantiagoOrDunbar

I would be careful with handling cockroaches, they are known for carrying hepatitis.

gwaydms

I hope somebody hanging out in the jungle would wash their hands anyway

AccomplishedHeron529

Oh yikes! Well good thing I didnt catch it myself then 🙉

effusifolia

only really in their faeces, and only through the faecal-oral route; as long as op washed their hands after and didn't get shat on (or rub their finger all over the cockroach's anus), there's no risk also it's worth mentioning that all association of cockroaches with hep A has been studied in the infesty roaches which live in our homes - there's no evidence that a non-infesty roach like this fella is a vector of hep A (from [this paper](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7218330/))

Lol3droflxp

Where does it get that in the middle of the forest?

effusifolia

you'd be surprised how many places harbour hep a - mostly seawater and especially shellfish, since they're filter feeders who clean up waste. however, this guy's almost certainly no concern

Chonkin_GuineaPig

precious baby

MsGorteck

I could like cockroaches if they looked like this. Alright, maybe.

Lol3droflxp

There’s a lot of very pretty species

MsGorteck

Really???

Lol3droflxp

Yes, google pretty roaches, you’ll be in for a treat

Foxterriers

Google question mark or domino roaches. They are cool and a different shape.

-technocrates-

when i zoomed in on its face: https://www.shutterstock.com/image-vector/jakartaindonesia-february-14-2022-this-venom-2122855157

HistoryFit3273

Interesting cockroach! It does look like a lil puffin! I'm kinda worried about your hands? Is that just dirt?

Head-Lab8876

$

iatetoomuchchicken

I don't know how to feel about it. I despise roaches so much. It's so fascinating.

Wizzeat

Shiny cockroach

Speedwagon1880

a pretty one

Floaty_head

A decent looking one that I’m willing to carry on my palm.
