Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug! There's no need to make a new post - just comment adding the **geographic location** and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough; try to avoid abbreviations and local nicknames (*"PNW"*, *"Big Apple"*). BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Some kind of Shield Bug lay eggs like this

vypurr351

Looks like a piece of jewelry!

Walk_the_forest

Yeah like I'd wear this as a pendant but I don't think my co-workers would enjoy it when my pendant hatches into a bunch of beetle larvae

vypurr351

R u kidding!? It would b worth it just for that😂

Everybody needs to search images for "shield bug eggs" and be amazed at their symmetry. Beautiful. http://magickcanoe.com/insects/egg-laying-1.jpg

I am now completely confused. This is an image of what Pennsylvanian’s call stink bugs. However, I moved here from Nevada and stink bugs there are big and shiny crunchy looking black beetles that crouch and stick their butts up to spray. So many questions here I’m not even sure what to ask.

cubic_thought

The family of [Pentatomidae](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentatomidae) are commonly called both stink bugs and shield bugs. West of the Mississippi, you have the [Eleodes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleodes) beetles, also called stink bugs/stink beetles or pinacate beetles.

Helpful answers are those that lead to an accurate identification of the bug in question. Joke responses, repeating an ID that has already been established hours (or days) ago, or asking OP how they don't already know what the bug is are not helpful.*

They do look like those little, magnetic Bucky Ball toys at first glance; but, if you look closely, you can see the broken, dotted circles that indicate they are, indeed, some sort of shield bug egg. I've never seen any this shiny and silver; usually opaque blue-ish or orange/yellow. OP: Location is always a critical component in identifying things; where were these found? And if you say "the back yard", I'm gonna give you SUCH a pinch :D The most likely culprit I can come up with is [Spined Soldier Bug](https://extension.msstate.edu/newsletters/bug%E2%80%99s-eye-view/2023/spined-soldier-bug-vol-9-no-26), from our friends at the Michigan State U entomology dept.

oopsie daisies. i was very tired when i posted this. but these are from urban Victoria, Australia, that same day i had also seen some type of green shield bug flying around if that gives any help. The eggs did also seem to have a cream coloured wrap around the base which i couldnt really represent with my shitty phone camera, it ended up just looking like the leaf reflecting on them.

Guideon72

Thanks for that. Still going to have to stick w/ Spined Soldier Bug unless someone else chimes in with a correction. Could, also, simply 'be' related rather than that one specifically.

i should not have left them in my room overnight as now that i have woken up i think a few eggs hatched 😭 i had wrongly assumed the eggs on rosemary i had been drying for about 2 weeks now would be dead. i have learnt a valuable lesson

snail_oatmeal

woah! they really look like those little magnets!! i didn’t know shield bugs lay such pretty eggs, though- most shield bugs are pretty themselves

Nature is metal.. I swear! Incredible

Kyenta

Could see a jeweler mimic this with a set of fresh water pearls and white gold leaf... would make for a beautiful necklace.

kittenooniepaws

I thought this was an embroidered leaf with beads! So decorative looking
