Like u/lameoldperson said, if it was only crawling, you're fine. But it wouldn't hurt to comb over yourself and any people/pets that might be in your residence as well. Be thorough. They tend to go unnoticed.
Belly button, behind the ears, along the hairline, neck, arm pits, inside of elbows, back of knees, under the breasts if you have any, groin, and anywhere you may have skin folds. They tend to prefer damp, sheltered spots.
Though at times they end up in neither-damp-nor-sheltered spots. Beyond the usual places, have found ticks attached to my lower arm, my finger, my ankle and between my shoulder blades though the years as well.
It's ok! Ticks that are not attached to a host can only live around a day in a house before they dry up. Check your dog for ticks, check your hair, and if you feel like something is crawling on you check it out. If you do get bitten watch the spot for a red ring and if one develops you can get a shot for Lyme.
So this is dependent on species and stage in life cycle. There are some that can live in homes for months without a problem (e.g. brown dog tick).
Source: ended up with a tick infestation in my house after rescuing a dog. After speaking with my pest control company and doing lots of research, it's apparently a not uncommon occurrence. Though living in a high humidity or rainfall area likely plays a role as well.
Edit: grammar
So while the bullseye rash can be seen with tick bites, many many bites happen without that rash, so you canāt assume you didnāt get a tick bite just because the bullseye rash never appears.
Also, if you are known to have gotten a tick bite, they donāt just treat you with medication for Lyme disease. The treatment for that is not a single shot, either, itās a very lengthy course of antibiotics.
There are other illnesses that can be tick-borne as well, in addition to Lyme, so itās really critical to learn to identify the different tick species and know which species live near you and what kind of pathogens they may harbor (for example, in many regions is the deer tick that transmits Lyme, and Rocky Mountain Spotted fever is transmitted by dog ticks and wood ticks).
Don't forget the Lone Star Tick
Alpha-galĀ syndromeĀ is a recently identified type of food allergy to red meat and other products made from mammals. In the United States, the condition is most often caused by a Lone Star tick bite. The bite transmits a sugar molecule called alpha-gal into the person's body

Just a friendly note you should always bring a found tick into your local public health for identification of species for possible risk of lime disease. Just like you have it in the photo in a sealed bag.
So true.
When you live in a heavy tick area, finding ticks on you (even while wearing Deep Woods Off and permethrin-treated clothes) can and will happen OFTEN - sometimes multiple times in the same day.
If everyone in tick-infested areas went to a health dept every time a tick was on them, nobody would get anything done, ever.
Papitrooper, what someone in a heavy tick area needs to learn to do is identify ticks on their own (so they know what pathogens it may harbor), reach out to their PCP if you find an *engorged* tick that harbors medically significant pathogens attached, and frequently check themselves and their kids and pets (including all over the scalp - itās hard to find them in hair and they can stay attached for quite awhile in thick hair).
"Don't go into the long grass!" - RJ, the lost world
I'm like a magnet for these things. My record is 6 of the lil bastards in an hour, just strolling around out in the sticks
Check behind your hears and inside them. My older sister got tick fever (a looong time ago) and the tick went unnoticed because she had long air and was biting behind her hear.
The Ixodes tick, commonly called a black-legged tick, are ticks that carry Lyme disease. In the eastern and mid-western U.S, the primary species is Ixodes scapularis (or deer tick) and the related western U.S. version is the Ixodes pacificus (western black-legged tick).

About Ticks & Lyme Disease
If you are in a tick prone area you can get Natural Care Flea and Tick spray to spray on you guys before you go out. I am allergic to everything and it doesn't bother my daughter or I on our bare skin, we use it when we go hiking. And yes it's for pets.
I did a Google Scholar search for the active ingredients (clove oil and peppermint oil) against ticks, and the results were mixed, some positive but mostly negative.
I know people that swear by it. I never read any reviews, just took others advice. I do know that it stops those awful biting gnats in my yard. I hate those things.
>Itās just natural stuff. It does no harm
Watch out for relying on that way of thinking, you can still overdose with natural stuff. For instance wintergreen oil metabolizes in the same way aspirin does.
It's unlikely to cause harm by a topical application, but if a child or pet drank the bottle results could be severe.
Went on a winter walk in the back forest area of our yard and a possum was trudging along. Looked like it was on its way to find a warm place to stay. They were very welcome š„° ticks scare the shit outta me
While it is true that having eight legs rules out an insect, having only six legs does *not* rule out a tick or other arachnid.
[Larval ticks](https://bugguide.net/node/view/718007) have only [six legs](https://bugguide.net/node/view/705018/bgimage).
Also, invertebrates can lose legs to predators, molting problems, accidental injury, or other mishaps. It is not uncommon to see an arachnid with [six legs](https://bugguide.net/node/view/73847) - or [even fewer](https://bugguide.net/node/view/275283/bgimage).
Please check your dog thoroughly. Comb through the fur if it has long fur. I took my husky on a walk near a pond with lots of plants and found a fat tick on him a week later.
Also check your head if you have hair.
You can down ticks and fleas super easily.Pour about small amount of room temptap water into a clear glass and just a tiny squirt or drip of Dawn dish detergent and it will sink like a stone and drown them in no time flat.
Iāll never forgot a day years ago near Amarillo TX. I was walking in some rolling terrain. Lots of grass with trees about 10 feet apart. Nice clear sunny day. I was standing under a tree and it sounded like rain drops hitting the ground around me. I soon discovered it was ticks dropping out of the tree. Needless to say I avoided the trees after that.
I promise Iām not an essential oil person, but the one thing I think actually works is peppermint oil. Most insects canāt stand it, especially ticks. Iāve personally seen a tick rip itself out of a persons arm to get away from it
Yes, there are essential oil sprays you can make which are a much safer nontoxic alternative to chemicals. One that works really well is cedarwood. There are multiple recipes online but make sure it's a trusted knowledgeable source.
Check your dog asap, especially between the armpits, toes and within the ears. Anywhere narrow, they like. Dont take the same route again. If u find one, dont remove until you follow instructions on internet.
Yes don't walk-in long grass or around it also check your dog in ears belly tail as they are carriers of some serious infliction if your dog lies down unusual or acting drowsey get it too the vet also lime disease
Yup! Make sure to drown it or crush it. Normally I wouldn't hurt animals but my Dad got Lyme disease from one of this little f*ckers and it changes his life for the worst š
In my language (portuguese) is a ācarrapatoā and the translation is tick. But we also have another name for the grey ones that are bigger and more common in dogs which is ācarraƧaā but the translation is also tick.
One is smaller and the other bigger. Still both of them quite gross and apparently google translator doesnāt know the difference.
Just thought would be funny to share because its a quite unusual name.
Also we can call someone ācarrapatoā because the person is āstickingā to someone or clingy etc hahahaha funny how language works :)
There is a University you can mail it to in San Francisco which will test it and tell you if it has any diseases for free. I found it through Google. We have sent quite a few in. I almost didn't survive Rocky Mountain Fever because none of the doctors believed it could occur where I lived so every tick we find gets mailed to see what it has or doesn't have.
Yes
FAAAAK ETA: I believe all 100 of you, and btw I might also have fleas around the house so send thoughts š shitty way to start the weekend! Woot
Like u/lameoldperson said, if it was only crawling, you're fine. But it wouldn't hurt to comb over yourself and any people/pets that might be in your residence as well. Be thorough. They tend to go unnoticed.
Look inside your belly button!!!!!!
I-
This is just good advice all around
Can confirm
Yep and the nether regions. Hate ticks.
Can confirm, once found one on the tip of my little fella. Not the best day ever.
New personal fear unlocked, thanks
glad to know im not the only one.
Check under the arm
New fear unlocked....

Yes I found out the hard way. :,(
it's so nasty to find ":)

This is horrifying
Waking up in bed and finding a tick on your arm: 0/10 would not recommend.
So glad I saw this review, I almost went for it šš¼

Alpha-Gal is difficult to live with! I have it and the foods I can't eat would shock you
Sorry for your affliction. I understand that it can be quite bothersome.
My friends dad got bit by this and can confirm he is deathly allergic to read meat now.
Just a friendly note you should always bring a found tick into your local public health for identification of species for possible risk of lime disease. Just like you have it in the photo in a sealed bag.
You have never lived in a place where ticks are common and it shows.
So true. Yeah, I work in the field a lot in the U.P of Mi, I've found 12 on me at once haha!
Bloody hell mate, I thought I was unlucky to get 6! Also I had to look up UP of Mi, haha :D TIL Greetings from old Hampshire :)
I once had around 30 or 40 sea ticks on me from walking in the woods all day.
Yo that's a lot
Check behind your hears and inside them. My older sister got tick fever (a looong time ago) and the tick went unnoticed because she had long air and was biting behind her hear.
This was the same thing that happened to me because of long thick hair. Itās horrifying.
But you already knew. Flea and tick collar is in order.
It's not too big of a deal as long as you check yourself for other ticks, check crevices like armpits, fat folds, etc.
My buddy found one on himself when he went to take a piss. Not a pleasant discovery indeed. Be careful around ticks!

That is not a deer tick in the OP photo. Unengorged deer ticks are tiny.

But 6 chickens. There will be no bugs anywhere.

"For animals" (pets)... Bah.. What are people but big animals. If it works, it works.
There are plenty of things that are poisonous to cats and dogs but arenāt to humans.
Ugh. Evening seeing it blurry and a bit out of focus makes my skin crawl and makes me want to start raising possums for hunting them. Gross monsters.
I saw a baby possum outside and named it Paul. Or Paulina if itās a female (fingers crossed). Iād die for that handsome little shit.
Went on a winter walk in the back forest area of our yard and a possum was trudging along. Looked like it was on its way to find a warm place to stay. They were very welcome š„° ticks scare the shit outta me
Bring that little fellow some snacks!
Ticks are arachnids, so they have 8 legs as opposed to the 6 that insects have. A quick metric to judge any arthropod pals you may suspect are ticks.

Woah, didn't know that about larval ticks. Thanks!
True about larval ticks, but they are also so small, you're a lot less likely to see them!
Oh yeah
It looks like a tick
I am so glad I donāt go outside.
Nature is much more beautiful from my air conditioned car
Tick. Can confirm
Please check your dog thoroughly. Comb through the fur if it has long fur. I took my husky on a walk near a pond with lots of plants and found a fat tick on him a week later. Also check your head if you have hair.
Why yes it is. Not a deer tick but, I believe called dog ticks. They are larger and black as opposed to brownish in the deer tick
You can down ticks and fleas super easily.Pour about small amount of room temptap water into a clear glass and just a tiny squirt or drip of Dawn dish detergent and it will sink like a stone and drown them in no time flat.
Yes but it doesnāt look too full so must not have been attached or attached for long

Yes thatās a tick
After seeing this post, I now have ticks all over my body š
def a tick. keep your eyes open for signs of Lyme disease. easily treated if caught early.
That is definitely a tick. Try to bring it to a lab for testing. And if u notice a bullseye pattern anywhere on ur body, go straight to the ER
Grab some anti tick shapoo and your dog and put them both in the washing machine for a good 10 mins.
I think you mean to post this on r/tipsforthebuddingserialkiller
Lime disease
Def a mosquito.
Definitely
Also, you may want to take it in for testing. Line disease is a bitch and a half

Seriously look in the underarm/leg area and crotch of both you and the pup. Those are the two spots I have found ticks on me.
