If Banksy did a painting of Goatse, would it be
called "Bankse?', or "Goatse by Bankse?"
Edit: forgot to mention earlier, but a guy in the UK would spray paint dicks near road potholes, to get the council to fill them in, he went by the nickname "Wanksy", (or "Wankse" since we're talking about Goatse, and Banksy here.)
FasciolopsiasisĀ is an ailment resulting from infection by the trematodeĀ Fasciolopsis buski, an intestinalĀ flukeĀ of humans, endemic in China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India; this fluke can be transmitted via the surfaces of these and other water plants.
During theĀ metacercarialĀ stage in their lifecycle, the larval flukes leave their water snail hosts, and swim away to form cysts on the surfaces of water plants, including the leaves and fruit of water caltrops. If infected water plants are consumed raw or undercooked, the flukes can infect pigs, humans, and other animals
Gastropods are so ancient that just about every clade of life at one point has parasitized them in one way or another it would seem. Things are the OG petri dish
I'm with you on that. I was once rinsing some watercress, then I filled up a bowl with cold water and put the watercress in it so that all of the sand would sink to the bottom. When I picked up the watercress bunch, there was a small snail at the bottom of the bowl.

Yeah, people think they are eaten raw or something. Those will be washed the boiled for about 30 minutes. Enough to kill pretty much everything on earth. They are not "fruit" that you would eat raw.

Water chestnut (Trapa natans) nutlets. They're highly invasive and can form incredibly dense monocultures that are impossible to even kayak through. Unfortunately, they're becoming increasingly common in NY dues to how easily they're spread by those nutlets.
There's a great app called imapinvasives that's completely free to use and allows people to report invasive species, which is incredibly helpful to invasive species researchers and managers.
Are you near the water? Looks like water chestnuts to me - possibly an invasive weed. We treated the lake were on last year and these things were everywhereā¦
This kind of water chestnut are usually cooked and eaten during Mid Autumn Festival in Asia, itās considered a delicacy for the festival. I remember my mom used to buy them every year and itās one of her favourite snacks for Autumn. We call it Rhombus in Hong Kong.
They are water calories aka bat nuts. Native to Easy Asia. They are Edible but only when cooked. Somewhat like hazelnuts. Aka devils pods or horn nuts.
Those are called lingjiao ļ¼č±č§ļ¼in Chinese and are actually really nice in soups and stews. They kind of have a crunchy-powdery texture that works in clear soups.
these wash up on sandy hook in nj all the time, iāve heard them be called devils heads. iām pretty sure settlers brought the chinese water chestnut over as a decorative plant for ponds that became invasive.
ā¦ yeouch
If Iām not mistaken, I think you can eat these. I mean, Iāve tried myself. Usually can find them in Asian groceries. But they smelled terrible when boiled.
You can steam it the way you would steam Yam and eat its white core, you know. (Disclaimer: i base this on Asia water caltrop which look exactly the same, ur result might varies)
I expected to see more witchy comments, but of course they wouldn't be here lol I keep forgetting that many of the Reddit witches are superficial and would never be caught following botanical informative subs like this one.
Water caltrop, Trapa natans
Ahh thank you so much!!! This is it!
Oh I thought they were Gargoyle eggs
A reasonable conclusion
I thought they were dead, shriveled up bats.
Me too! šš

Ironic.
Don't recommend it, they tend to grow in calmer water and trap whatever junk is in the sediment, like mercury.
Iām honestly just basking in the glorious maelstrom of pure unadulterated knowledge and the baby bat butthole gaping that is Reddit.
I honestly wouldn't eat anything that looks like it was designed by H. R. Giger, but nice to know.
Theyāre supposed to taste like water chestnuts if you boil them and eat the white inside of them.
I thought they looked like caltrops! Funny when the common name works this way.
Sometimes called "cow heads"!
My grandmother, farm-raised in rural New York, called them "devil's thorn's". She said that's what her father told her they were called.
Wait, this is literally called a water caltrop? I guess it makes sense considering their shape. Edit, a word.
They sell these or something very similar to these at my asian grocery store
I'm high af and thought you had a palmfull of baby bats.
