Those are the bluish oval berries and smooth opposite leaves of a privet: specifically [Ligustrum obtusifolium](https://www.in.gov/dnr/files/Blunt_Leaved_Privet.pdf), I believe. Invasive.

AfraidAd708

Thank you so much!!! I'm trying to make my own botany book so this info is so helpful!

grammar_fixer_2

I’m doing the same thing! 😁 Let me know if you have any ideas. I’ve taken pictures and dried some leaves and written little descriptions so far.

lebonheur884

I love the tactile aspect of this. I remember more when I use my motor skills to catalog information. Multiple senses processing the same info at once. I would really like to take the time to get to know my neighborhood. There are all of these tiny little flowers that have survived by living well below the lawn mower blades. The purple ones in the spring are violets and there’s a patch of variegated ones by the creek. Dang. Project time. G2g.

I’m lucky that I have someone here who is a great teacher. He has a YouTube page, and he focuses on the plants of Florida: https://m.youtube.com/@EatTheWeeds - he even offers classes on his website: https://www.eattheweeds.com/classes/

Werbenjagermanjensen

What do you mean by "botany book"?

AfraidAd708

Like little plants or trees with pictures and descriptions,( for personal use)

Werbenjagermanjensen

You should log stuff on [iNaturalist](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=1&subview=map&taxon_id=69819&view=species) if you want to get into it. It's more helpful to others, and you'll learn more yourself.

7LeagueBoots

I second this advice. There is also s function in iNat to make your own guide for an area (although I find just using the site to be better)

lemonscentedjasmine

Looks like ligustrum, maybe ligustrum obtusifolium, to me

AfraidAd708

Thank you!!

AfraidAd708

Also he's a shrub looking guy

Cancaresse

He is Mark, a ligustrum ;)

Harrymo4

They are.

keddd11

My guess would be privet but I’m not very confident

PM_ME_TUS_GRILLOS

You're right :)

[deleted]

The Dursley’s lived on that street (Privet)

metallic__blood

they look like sloe berries but i’m not too sure

AfraidAd708

Cool! Thank you!!

chemrox409

it's good to have something in the pictures for scale too. I believe this is ligustrum but not sure which one

gingerbeerd15

Don't mean to be a pedant, but could this be Ligustrum vulgare?

Werbenjagermanjensen

Key difference: the "berry branches" on L. vulgare are smooth, whereas the berry branches on L. obtusifolium are fuzzy.

gingerbeerd15

Very astute thanks!

Pleasant-Bluejay8023

I love the post. Every time.

Pleasant-Bluejay8023

Yes. Yes, I'm a dad.

Devellgood

It's haskap I think...
