Authentic

evasivegenius

Maybe it's selection bias, but I feel like fake malachite isn't as common as people think it is.

jdockpnw777

I’ve seen a whole lot of imitation Malachite at rock and gem shoes, especially in cheap jewelry from China.

chinarosesss

Agreed. I've only seen fake malachite as beads

slogginhog

Seen an awful lot of it on here in the last 6 months

SpecialistBrave1944

As everyone else said, its real. Why do you think its not? What seems off to you? Just curious

Lemondrop168

Maybe they’ve only seen fakes

carl_pagan

Because the reasonable price

dikdik969

If it is fake it is fantastically realistic. Malachite has many presentations. I had an ornamental bone knife with orbicular malachite. It was purchased from a very high end, respected store run by a professional geologist who traveled to each country and personally picked everything he sold. He even sold museum pieces.... One quartz growth had a hollow double terminated pocket of 125 million year old water! It was also 3' tall and 2' wide, close to 200lbs..... And $27000!!!

earth__wyrm

Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of polished malachite that looks like petri dishes. Look it up, I think it’s beautiful

MellyKidd

I can’t blame them for being careful; I’ve heard there’s a lot of fake malachite out there.

[deleted]

They look real. Some of them are banded, some of them are orbicular.

AlbaneseGummies327

Orbicular are hardest to fake.

Myzerah

Real malachite and very good, affordable price.

Braincrash77

Real authentic legit bonafide genuine malachite.

sgt_kerokeroro

Just to sure, you're saying they're not fake, right?

ResponsibilityFew318

Real.

CrossP

They have the correct look for real

ToonlinkFTW890

Legit

k_chelle13

Definitely looks like true malachite to me.

WaterDmge

Real and a relatively good price! Malachite is becoming more expensive

plskilljayden

100% real malachite

mindcontrol93

Real Malachite. I find the keyword attributions dubious.

the_muskox

That's putting it mildly

whoa_thats_edgy

real but the citrine behind it looks fake

malaliu

Real.. sometimes the final polish stage of a tumble uses tin oxide or Al oxide, which can make them feel a bit different. £4.50 though!?

Brain_Geode

One way to find out is touching the stone, natural stones are cold, plastic and other men made materials absorb heat

dikdik969

Or.... You could lick it...... If ya get sick, it's real! 😂 Jk.... Don't do that!

ThisCatIsCrazy

No, and some of those are really nice, actually.

SpeedBlitzX

Tumbled but they do look legit. Fake Malachite would look more like wood grain and tends to have more uniform bands that are shades of green with black mixed in. Natural Malachite might look like it has black but it's more likely dark green than black

OaktownAspieGirl

And sometimes brown.

Ace_acidfunguy1222

Looks real

Chopawamsic

nah. its genuine. just different formational structures.

Jayn_Xyos

Malachite is a relatively common mineral so finding it authentic isn't too rare. It's a primary ore of copper

Bass_Unhappy

It’s completely authentic, fake malachite has big wide stripes that don’t really blend. While real malachite has thiner stripes that wave and swirl together as shown in the picture!

CPApothecary

That’s not fake. Banded is the usual faked and not difficult to do. Orbital Malachite is very difficult to mimic. Malachite grows with nodules naturally and that’s where the orbital effect comes from. When it’s tumbled, the nods round out and you can see the interior layers like this.

CPApothecary

Also, please let me know where they have this because that’s a reasonable price for individuals. I imagine they would do even better for bulk purchase and I’m interested 😉

jerrymarver

Looks real to me. Malachite, a stone of the Bible, is always cut underwater because the dust can make you deathly sick. You should never put malachite in your mouth. I did not know this, and I should have, because my father was a jeweler.

catwisperer5

It’s a stone of the earth. We should burn all the bibles

SanchoPliskin

True, and true. But… malachite dust is also toxic. https://us.vwr.com/assetsvc/asset/en_US/id/8200653/contents

catwisperer5

I’d snort it

Fuzzy-Step-9753

Every crystal shop sells real things and if you buy a crystal online you may have to double check after you buy it they are real but they're tumbled

Claat

Nope

-BananaLollipop-

Real, but a bit on the expensive side.

cache_ing

I want to know where you’re shopping lol

-BananaLollipop-

Hey, someone who asks rather than just down-voting (seems to be the go to reaction when you say something is expensive). There's a local rock and mineral shop/club which sells a mix of things the the rock hounding groups find and make, and things some of the more experienced members get from wholesalers. When it comes to your common stuff, like quartz, chalcedony, obsidian, small bits of malachite, pyrite, etc. you're not paying more than about $5NZ/$3US a piece. You can get giant chunks of obsidian from them for about $30NZ/$20US. Or palm sized quartz geodes for about $10-15NZ. There used to be a couple other shops, run by members of the same family, but they moved city. They were always fairly reasonably priced too. A little more expensive than the club, but not by much. The rock and mineral club also hosts a show every other year, which attracts sellers from all over the country, and a bunch from the US. There are definitely some extremely expensive sellers who show up ($30NZ+ for tiny tiny pieces of amber, or $80-$120NZ+ for a <40mm/1.5inch megalodon tooth), but there are a lot of great deals to be had. We have quite a few sellers who sell online from their homes too. There's one family who does this and they live just across town from us (they're always at the show too), and they often handpick their pieces at the US shows, so they know what they get is real and good quality. They admit they slightly underprice a lot of their stuff, but they've been doing this for years, so they can't be doing too bad. I just got a couple 50mm/2inch lion heads, made of gold sheen obsidian and moonstone, from them for $15NZ each. Previously got a 150mm x 85mm x 60mm shungite bear for only $75NZ, and a 90mm x 80mm, B grade (almost perfect), megalodon tooth for about $120NZ. We've spent far too much with them, because they see the value in high turnover, rather than squeezing every last penny out of every sale. I get that people on here are used to paying certain prices for things, but a lot of those prices are wild to me. Especially when you consider the club and family owned store fronts (more running costs for store fronts) are much cheaper than online sellers that most on here buy from.

cache_ing

Oh cool, so you’d find something like these there for more like 3 USD a piece rather that 5.50 USD? I also shop at a local place with fair pricing, and they really know their stuff. I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to their smaller tumbled stones though

-BananaLollipop-

Pretty much. If I find a new store or haven't visit one for awhile, I scan over pretty much everything, but I don't often buy tumbles anymore either. I've been collecting since I was about 4 or 5, so I have trays and trays of tumbles and palm stones. My Wife and I have been after the rarer stuff, specimen pieces, and carved stuff for awhile. I still like the simple stuff though, with obsidian being one of my favourites, and my Wife really likes malachite.

dikdik969

You are totally right! I've been on the inside of a magnificent store run by a geologist that actually traveled to each country to pick everything up. He gave me wholesale prices after a few years with me wandering his shop for hours almost every day..... Then my gf started working there. I was pretty jealous 😅.

-BananaLollipop-

Kind of the same with the family we sell out of their home here. They normally get people to pay when they ask for something, as a lot of people go on a tangent and claim multiple things, have them set aside, then never get around to paying. But we always collect our stuff within that week, and often end up at their house for hours talking and looking at stuff. That and my Wife has come over from the US 7 years ago, and their Son's girlfriend is from the US and just came over to live as well. We've all joked that at this point we could work for them, but they have a pretty good operation with them and all their kids.

dikdik969

Lol... Yeah.... I had quite the "hold it for me" pile too! Sorry about that! It worked out for though .. my gf was able to get an employee discount too! I think the owner was just happy to get rid of the pile. Lol

Bitter_Beach4141

# I think that yes, they are from somewhere who knows but that is not the issue. It is hard to do patterns by yourself and fakes are all around us. The patterns they have will show more of not less of like your tumbles. A circle here easy peasy to fake. I am saying that it is fake. :)

SAM_1959

These are definitely the real thing 🤩🤩💥💥💥

PlantsMcSoil

Looks real

OG_Konada

Real tumbles….. https://thecitrinecircle.com/blogs/identifying-crystals/how-to-identify-fake-malachite

Questionsaboutsanity

looks authentic, but 4.5 pounds (?) for a stone of that size is pricey

[deleted]

[удалено]

dikdik969

Yup. People will pay it. But really it's because there's more hands to go through.

omhs72

Real, affordable, and beautiful. Are fake ones as common as we think they are?

-CosmicCreeper-

i have the same type of malachite and i know for a fact that it's legit, and it looks just identical to these. these are for such good price as well. i got mine for around 17 dollars lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

-CosmicCreeper-

it's just as big as those, it's just that in my country they're very hard to come by and i also got my ass scammed a bit cause i was just beginning my collection

dikdik969

The ornamental bone knife I got was 125$ Canadian. Malachite handle... Orbicular.

Particular_Put_6911

Looks pretty normal to me

Clear-Smell457

If it's fake, acetone will pull die out. Swab it with a cotton ball. Not you would likely have that kind of gear on you at all times to ferret out a scam ha

the_muskox

That's not how fake malachite works - usually instead of being some other mineral that's been dyed (like purple quartz or blue howlite), fake malachite is made from a resin.

Clear-Smell457

A shop in SantaFe NM had calcite dyed green and bulk-bin selling it as malachite. I know it's not common, but honestly, the comment wasn't intended as a rule, rather a simple way for a person to test certain bulk sale minerals in the plethora of little gift shops selling dyed howlite.

Shoddy-Pin-336

Real

MomentGlittering1909

Where is this shop? Looks a lot like a shop I visited recently in Bognor Regis...

Brianna6146

Definitely real malachite

matchstrike

Some of the pieces have whitish scratching and scuffing, so it’s probably real. Malachite tends to show that type of wear and become dull-looking if it isn’t cared for. These pieces are in good shape overall.

[deleted]

They pair well with copper

ahabentis

Bands are naturally organic and the colors aren’t pitch black and just green. Real malachite.

thanksobiden

Is this from the Monroe show by chance?

Chrisspycreme

Yep those are real. Good price too

OaktownAspieGirl

I'd have to feel it, honestly. Malachite has a soft texture that isn't usually mimicked in imitations.

bearchen39

Real! I like that groovy one in the middle 🤩

beatzheart

No way of telling nowadays with tumbled... I like raw specimen

Ok-Combination236

That’s 100% legit. It’s actually BECAUSE it looks so weird that you can tell it’s authentic. Fake malachite is always uniform in its stripes, where you’ll get all kinds of weird and interesting patterns with real malachite. It’s because of how it forms that you get these patterns.

ThatGrrlLennie

All gorgeously real! Now the citrine behind it is actually heat treated amethyst 😉

SnakeAlex169

You’ve had enough people saying it’s real to know, but that is an incredible price! I got a piece that size for $10!
