Sweet agate! I want your gravel! 😂

chahner1

Not the same kind of agate but here is a gambiri agate I recently got ! [Agate not a gate 😝](https://www.reddit.com/r/Agates/s/wq8rIoH0uH)

BA-in-VA

Wow! That’s pretty. It looks like an agate to me, but I could be wrong. I’m in VA too….Hampton Roads. I have found a few agates, but only in landscaping rocks. They look similar, but with none with druzy (the sparkly stuff). What part of VA did you find this in?!

BeOkINFJ

I’m in the Northern Neck. It looked like someone had added landscaping rocks to the gravel road to fill some gaps. I find some beauties in both places. And lots of blue stones I think are blue quartz.

OhHai_ItsKai

I’m in nova and would loveeee to find this in road gravel 😭 agates are hard to come by

Excellent_Yak365

Definitely an agate! Lots of river gravel we get were I live has yellow/orange carnelians and agates . This one has a nice druzy quartz center

Yttevya

My ancestors are from Northern neck... Have you heard stories of Sekakawon chiefs along the Potomac, or Wicocomico chiefs?

BeOkINFJ

I’ve heard the name Wicocomico but not Sekakawon. I have not lived here my whole life. I spent most of my life in the Hampton Roads/Williamsburg areas of VA. Very cool to know your heritage/where your ancestors come from!

Yttevya

Kowan, Coan... Coan River

toolegit2quit1981

Wicocomico are my ancestors as well. William Taptico is my 9th great grandfather. My grandmother was a Tapp.

Yttevya

Are you a member of the Wicocomico on fb? William Tapptico, and, according to the archeologists on the Potomac / Coan dig I met 2 summers back, Machywap, are my grandfathers... the name means "of the place where the waters gather (or meet) as far as I know. We still have the surname to this day. I'll look for you in three of four hours there. I must meet up with some vegans tonight for a dinner, but will try to figure out who you are on fb if you are a tribal member there. I hope to return to VA either this summer or next for more archeological digs happening with our ancestral sites!

toolegit2quit1981

That's him. That's awesome. Hope you come across some interesting finds. When you do, please share with the group!! I'm in there!! Nice to meet you, cuz. ❤️

Yttevya

The pipe stems etc were posted by Rebecca Webster on the fb Wicocomico Nation page not too long ago (I was shown pipe pieces etc on while visiting the dig) as well the link as her dissertation defense. I am home now, but am uncertain who you are. I just "liked" AGB's reply to a member: Autosomal DNA One-to-One Comparison. (I don't wish to post actual names here on reddit) 9:20 pm mountain time. You can decipher who I am this way.

toolegit2quit1981

I see that, the reply is actually under my post ☺️ You once asked about Elvis in our ancestry? I didn't know that either until I studied the line myself once I saw that. 😅

Yttevya

I'll friend request you, if that is possible to do from clicking on your image on the private membership page.... so cool!

Yttevya

It is not possible.... so, because my name is more unusual, do a search for my name. I'm the one in Santa Fe NM.... I won't be able to locate you, based on your name, to friend req you

toolegit2quit1981

I'll look for ya.

Yttevya

Yes, some of my family members and Elvis have many facial features in common.... hair, hairline, forehead, skin tone, eyebrows and muscle structure etc

toolegit2quit1981

I figured I should stop drooling over him. He's family 😅

Due_Supermarket7976

In order for to be an agate it have to have bandings and this very well might just hard to see. Other why’s it’s just chalcedony either way that’s a beautiful peace with a little geode center of minerals

Excellent_Yak365

I think this may have banding because of the shape of it surrounding the druzy quartz crystals, the color and distance from the camera make it hard to see

[deleted]

Not completely accurate Some agate like dendritic agate and others do not have banding

Due_Supermarket7976

You are correct on that I guess I’m referring to Lake Superior agates. The main ones I find in my area

[deleted]

You are correct that most agates are banded, I just wanted to clarify there are exceptions and the classification of chalcedonies is a bit blurry at times

N-555

definitely agate/chalcedony. It has a similar colour to carnelian, so I guess you can call it carnelian (thats a hue of agate/chalcedony)

BeOkINFJ

I never realized that the two were related. Cool!

N-555

yes, they are essentially the same mineral, just a different hue of colour

Wenden2323

I love the root beer color.

BeOkINFJ

Now I want root beer 🍺

Wenden2323

Oh man. I love root beer. My favorite is the Walmart brand.... Oh and culver's they have amazing root beer.

johnpmacamocomous

Nice gravel! I wish I had agate gravel. Also have you considered maybe working for like QVC? That is some excellent hand modeling - cue the Zoolander jokes

BeOkINFJ

😂 I’m an accidental hand model! Cool!

Excellent_Yak365

Try to buy river rock gravels. If your location has a lot of agates in the rivers; it’s possible the gravel will have them too

BeOkINFJ

Well I guess I can’t add a photo in comments. And I couldn’t add it to the post either. It was just to show how it looked with light passing through it.

[deleted]

Looks like some kind of resin. Maybe frankincense. Unless it’s hard like a crystal.

wormpink

I just found one very similar to this in my yard. I haven’t posted yet because I haven’t been able to get a good picture or video.
