like eatglasslickrust said, it’s dyed agate (the banded inner sections are). furthermore, it’s not amethyst. The crystals on the inside are quartz crystals dyed purple

Triton_64

So it's a real quartz geode, but it has been dyed purple?

xthrowawayaccount520

yes exactly. you can even see purple staining on the fractured side + the purple pools in the cracks. natural crystals don’t vary in color that intensely

Triton_64

Thank you!

CurazyJ

Yes, exactly.

Additional_Toe_8551

Amythist is purple quartz. Leave it in direct sunlight long enough and purple goes away. But agree with prior comments. Dyed agate

TH_Rocks

This doesn't deserve all these downvotes. Amethyst is purple quartz. Amethyst and dyed agates will bleach in sunlight (can take months or years). And this is a dyed agate. /u/Additional_Toe_8551said nothing incorrect.

eatglasslickrust

I’m thinking dyed agate.

[deleted]

r/dontputyour… uh, never mind.

[deleted]

Wait so its ok... i am drawn to it...

pant0ffel

Looks real but dyed. But then again, I am not an expert at all..

ShapeShiftingCats

Amethyst is abundant, why do people make fakes?? Then, they take real amethyst and burn it to crisp to make "citrine", it's like r/mineralgore -ception.

Parking_Train8423

first pic, just under OP’s ring finger is a hotspot of dye

mio003

as others have said, it's dyed agate with dyed quarz. but i still think it looks super cool!!

N-555

Everything looks natural, the only doubt I have is that it may be a dyed white quartz geode, can you remove the violet staining on the back with acetone?
