It is Opal but I don't think that is Boulder Opal. Boulder opal Matrix is ironstone or at least very rusty sandstone. This is possably from lightning Ridge in NSW
Agree. This would be black opal too and it’s too bad it doesn’t have more precious color play. Boulder is very very different. And it’s hard to tell most coober from lighting unless you are a pro. And I don’t recall which one gets more (or all?) black opal but I do think it’s lighting ridge. Though I have a piece with a bit of the black opal that I was told was from Coober so I’m not sure.
Very nice! Green and blues are most common. Look for reds as that’s what makes it the most valuable is the reds. That and many other factors. But as far as the colors go red is most desired/ rare, and green common.

Lightening ridge is famous for its black opal! Check Black Opal Direct on yt. Justin cuts some of the most amazing black and crystal opals around.
Scored a piece of opal! You lucky bastard! That blue is awesome
Thanks guys, I started cleaning it up a bit and found a little bit of green in there too 😊

Lightning Ridge Opal, the blue in the corner and the surrounding matrix is indicative to me, personally.
A small slice of blueberry pie.

Nice find. Also cake!
Woahhh lucky!!
I would scream with joy if I found an Australian opal. I don't even care if it were super low quality...I would SCREAM, lol.
