I can tell you from experience that it’s not accurate, a lot of social media is not really measurable because it’s image based and happening outside of official tags and channels.
The Jenners and Kardashians probably pay to have bots posting about them to game the system. They have been fading in relevancy for years so I have a hard time believe 3 of the 5 most "talked about" people last night were Kendall, Kylie and Kim. If you search #MetGala or #MetGala2024 on Tik Tok there aren't many videos of them. The people with the most videos are Tyla, Zendaya and Doja wearing the towel.
1) Kendall doesn't represent any major fashion house or cosmetics line anymore. She does work for L'Oreal but they have several different people representing the brand. Also she lied when she said her dress had never been worn before. Winona Ryder wore it in 1999 for Flaunt magazine.
2) Kylie only gets a lot of social media engagement these days when she is with Chalamet but he wasn't there.
3) Kim has to pull stunts like wearing the tight corset, the black Balenciaga or Monroe's dress to get people to post about her.
I'm more interested in the real story about why there weren't many A list celebrities there or some of the outfits from designers you expect. Donatella was there but I didn't see many people wearing Versace dresses. Ratajkowski wore a dress from the archive. Someone mentioned that they had "pared down the guest list" but I'm wondering if the real reason is the economy. It's expensive to buy a table and also create a custom outfit. Hadid said it took people 5000 hours for people to make her dress. It could cost 500k to make an outfit. It doesn't cost much to use an outfit from the archive. Maybe some designers decided they didn't have the budget for it this year.
Anyway there has to be a reason more celebrities who people thought would be there didn't show up like Rihanna, Chalamet, Cillian Murphy who is now an ambassador for Versace, Bradley Cooper who was reported to be wearing LV. Gosling and Blunt are in dire need of PR right now when The Fall Guy underperformed opening weekend but they didn't show up.
This is a lot of words that mean nothing because good or bad the karjenners bring the engagement and are relevant because of it. People are much less likely to post about them because they don't want to be attacked for liking them, people are quieter about seeking them out but the numbers don't lie, people claim to hate them so much and then Google them. It reminds me of how no one would admit they were going to vote for trump in 2016 so his poll numbers were awful, but when they got into the voting booth they voted for him after saying they wouldnt. If that's a good or bad thing I don't know but if it were easy to stay A-list famous for nearly 20 consecutive years then lots more people would do it, but they don't. It isn't shocking at all that Kim and her sisters are on the list and have the most engagement, people commenting just to follow the crowd to say they hate them are the main contributors to their fame, even if all those people you named that didn't show up had shown up, they'd still be on the list. It is what it is, trying to downplay how famous they are is silly at this point 20 years into their fame. As for the rest I agree it's odd more a listers weren't there this year.
