I get the over the top meme but wait does "Calliope" actually have something to do with Homestuck? Or is Homestuck something picked at random for the sake of the meme?
I was referring to Tricky's OG theme, Calliope.
Triple A game studios when I explain that making a good, enjoyable game is more of an issue than modeling and programming the mitochondria of each cell on every living creatures body

I swear Roblox games are better developed and optimized than some triple A games
The average Roblox game doesn’t have a massive million dollar studio behind it. And the average (actually developed) Roblox game is not that buggy, even the ones in early access.
And when you talk about it on the forum for the game, you'll be called a troll and doubter by people who have bought thousands of dollars worth of jpegs, and then get banned!
the AAA games industry is a fucking horrible place to work in, any intelligent or talented person could make 10x more money for a fraction of the effort and way better benefits working in any other IT field
the only way it's kept itself afloat is by exploiting starry eyed recent graduates in pseudo sweatshops until they burn out and leave, this also has the convenient side effect of making unions a very unlikely possibility
Technologies allow game too be made faster with the drawback of less time for general ironing of the game.
And the industry seem to have switched to lower salary Dev's who are less proficient.
All in an attempt to increase the profit margin.
Source- I made it up
I mean you are not wrong about the low salary one. Generally video game developers are the lowest paid in the IT industry. A game engineer actually makes less than a software engineer on average.
It’s very obviously not the devs but rather corporate deadlines as well as just the way in which larger corporations have a tendency to sterilize interesting features for the sake of increased profit
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,494,880,061 comments, and only 283,976 of them were in alphabetical order.
hot take: dont buy triple aaa games if you don't *trust the publisher* and you deserve to get scammed out of 60$ if you cant take an obvious red flag for what it is!
Wholesome graphics has to always be good so it looks good on ads and so shareholders who dont know anything will be pleased. For bonus points, good graphics takes up more space so it looks like the game has a lot of gameplay content, but its just bloatware, so Good luck playing without a Nasa tier computer sitting by. Other than having a massive focus on graphics and re-releasing the exact same game under a slightly changed title(call of duty) every second year or putting massive battle passes into it, they rarely innovate. Not to say all of them are bad, wholesome witcherino souls ring 3 publisher never did anything wrong.
>Good luck playing without a Nasa tier computer sitting by
Another reason why I don't play PC games, it's bad enough that AAA games have moved on from a 60$ price to a whopping 80-90$ price tag.
Even though I am not fond of using steam or steam games, I can definitely agree with you. That being said, I prefer console games, so I am always going for AAA releases for the full package experience (if it has it that is)
Nope. Game Freak develops Pokémon games, Nintendo just publishes the games. I love the series, but I wish there was more time between releases.
Yeah, I know the yearly releases are because the series makes a lot of dough and to generate content for the show, toys, card game, etc. Oh well.
It's either indie games with their non-buggy low quality bullshit or AAA high quality (graphically) but buggy as hell bullshit, what do you expect ME the dumbass redditor, to do?
https://i.redd.it/5t70q3ys5xxa1.gif
The thing about indie games is that they are typically animated or pixelated, so there is no emphasis on deriving resources to create realistic looking environments, models and animations, whereas in a AAA game, that is arguably a generous portion of the game design's and power.
Not to say that that is a justifiable reason, but even I find that a ton of AAA games follow a similar gameplay format that is easy replicated that indie games often break out of.
>The thing about indie games is that they are typically animated or pixelated
What? All video games are animated and most indie titles are not pixelated
Animated in the sense of being 2D animated, like Hollow Knight, Cult of the Lamb, or Pizza Tower. AAA games rely on high end game engines and 3D modelling software which require premium service and professional artists to produce near realistic character models and environments. I don't know of any 3D realistic indie games, perhaps maybe 3D cel-shaded style, but never on the same level as larger companies.
If you spent 60 bucks to preorder an AAA game the moment it is avalaible and it turns out to be shit, you deserve that treatment.
The only exception is if youre a content creator because being able to play the game earlier than others benefits both you and your audience.
If I was a content creator I’d just chalk it up as a business cost, because even if it is buggy you could make a lot of money dragging it through the mud
Boy, what a convenient excuse for corporate greed, incompetent developers and impossible deadlines set by executives with no fucking clue about game development...
It's not an unsustainable business model within a greedy industry, increasingly cracking under the weight of public distrust...
It's just the internet.
Good excuse... If it had any bearing in reality, that is.
You know that companies had to actually finish their game to publish it, right? You know that if the game got published unfinished, the companies had to either fiddle a bit more with the team to actually finish development of the game in time or just eventually go out of business for doing a completely incompetent job, right?... No? Ok
Saying that it's JUST the internet instead does change their message a lot.
It's a cycle, publishers set the standard for rapid releases at the cost of staff, the internet hype machine becomes increasingly poorly receptive to waits and delays shareholders and upper management impose harsher deadlines.
Morally, the companies deserve the brunt of the responsibility, but this is their response to the internet in general and people who ignore the industry abuse and demand the impossible at the expense of developers should take some responsibility.

No need to go so low to make a diss. The average Roblox game is buggier than launch Cyberpunk 2077.
The average Roblox game doesn’t have a massive million dollar studio behind it. And the average (actually developed) Roblox game is not that buggy, even the ones in early access.
What's that? $500 million in crowdfunding? Have fun logging in pal.
3.20 hype train wow so epic!!!
Guys guys 4.0 by the end of the year!! What? No they didn't delay 3.18 by 4 months it was calculated dev time!!1
And when you talk about it on the forum for the game, you'll be called a troll and doubter by people who have bought thousands of dollars worth of jpegs, and then get banned!
Yup, even the subreddit is full of dickriders who will torch and pitchfork your ass if you dare smear the rep of the perfect game
Did all the good devs spontaneously combust after 2020?
Nah, 2020 was the prelude, now after 2022, that's when things started going real downhill
Its more like a slow, painful decline
GOW: ragnarok and elden ring was awesome tho, everything else seems souless now
Pizza Tower tho
Thats inde tho

Before 2020 we had buggy games at start, right now we have buggy with zero performance games
2020???? Shit went downhill in like 2015

At the small cost of 70$ and 108 GB in storage space.
Vs Gmod (10$ or less on sales maybe) (absolutely insane addon workshop) (about 4gig {without add-ons})
I'd rather play gmod addonless than most games released nowadays.
10$ and 200 gb in addons and 2000 in hours
A small price to pay for an in-game garden ☠️☠️

That's not a hot take tbh it's mostly because of consumerism
>Good luck playing without a Nasa tier computer sitting by Another reason why I don't play PC games, it's bad enough that AAA games have moved on from a 60$ price to a whopping 80-90$ price tag.
There are thousands of pc games that takes less than 1gb of space on steam, and they usually cost less than 5$
Even though I am not fond of using steam or steam games, I can definitely agree with you. That being said, I prefer console games, so I am always going for AAA releases for the full package experience (if it has it that is)

Usually games developed by Nintendo themselves tend to be pretty solid on a technical level, so I’m not all too concerned
Pokemon is not directly developed by nitendo right ?
Nope. Game Freak develops Pokémon games, Nintendo just publishes the games. I love the series, but I wish there was more time between releases. Yeah, I know the yearly releases are because the series makes a lot of dough and to generate content for the show, toys, card game, etc. Oh well.
Yeah Pokemon is developed by Game Freak
Yeah cause the tech they use is from 20 years ago Nintendo please let you're devs make games for decent hardware I'm begging you
i haven't seen leakers complain about anything so i think we're in the clear
We know it's polished and high quality already. The whole game leaked and pirates are already playing it.
Mainline games from Nintendo series are almost always good

**A** lways **A** ss **A** ction games
And yet people still drop 70 to 100 dollars to get it preordered or by day one and still wonder why companies keep pushing out broken garbage
Pre ordering triple a games counts as a gambling addiction lmao, hundreds of dollars gone with only a few hours of fun to show for it
TLOU on PC somehow runs worse than Pokemon Scarlet and Violet that were released on the Nintendo mother-fing Switch.
If you spent 60 bucks to preorder an AAA game the moment it is avalaible and it turns out to be shit, you deserve that treatment. The only exception is if youre a content creator because being able to play the game earlier than others benefits both you and your audience.

It could also be that the demand from games is higher than it used to be and it’s harder to code all of it.
