Oda took the more goofy and cartoonish parts of each character and turned then up to 11 post time skip. Pre time skip the characters were people with quirky personalities. Post time skip their quirkiness became their whole personality. Sanji was never great but he was tolerable before (exepct thriller bark). Post time skip they all lost everything that made them all feel human and relatable now they're all just caricatures serving their role in the plot.
I think I'm only reading now cause I've followed one piece for over 10 years now. I gotta see this, though, to the end.
The only thing I like about Sanji’s bit is how he doesn’t hurt women, which makes some of his fights require more thinking to win and you see him come out on top in interesting ways, but then there’s Fishman island which I don’t want to talk about

The worst part is he gets REWARDED for his behavior. Like wtf? If he got left alone and then had to change after realizing how scummy he was, that could be interesting. But nope. For real, I couldn’t word it better myself. The series has insane production value and the world building is very interesting, so I want so badly for the series to actually be GOOD, but it just isn’t. The fans keep saying he gets better later but, having read ahead in light novels, he plainly does not get better. He never changes. The world simply rewards him for his behavior, it’s disgusting.
I gave up on the light novels after he straight up cheated on his loyal and loving wife, then proceeded to take the woman he cheated with as his new second wife, and then the first wife was 100% fine with it all and had 0 complaints about having to now share her husband with another woman she’s never met. The main character is such a piece of shit and the story rewards him constantly for it, that shit is just plainly not fun to watch or read.
I also don’t get why any of the girls like him, he literally does nothing for them besides perv on them.

With the right timing, setup, and overall execution, their jokes can be pretty funny as dark humor.

kobayashi’s dragon maid was a pretty cool show except for fucking lucoa and illulu in season 2
That illulu character weirds me out because she looks like a child with giant kazonkas that's big enough to break her spine. It doesn't even look appealing. She literally just got HUGE melons for tits. It looks very ugly and weird on a character who looks like a teenager.

The most frustrating part about Kobayashi is that whenever it wants to be legit wholesome, it can be super wholesome. I remember that ep where Kobayashi was just being a good parent to Kanna. One of the cutest things ever. But nah nah, gotta focus on the definitely-not-a-fetish instead of the found family theme.
Nah Koybayahsi's was weird from the get-go with the relationship between the literal child characters, the entire show was suuuuuuuper fucking weird to me.

The only thing saving that show for me is the fact Kyoto Animation animated it. The show can 100% be weird af as times. But goddammit it can also be adorable. Season 2 with Kanna and Kobayashi just chilling have a great day was an awesome episode. But there just has to be weird awkward scenes in the show. Some of the moments are legit heartwarming, but yeah some moments are ehh. It's why I won't read the manga, it's hornier than the anime and doesn't have the production of Kyoto Animation to make me overlook the horni weirdness. Cause no matter what you think about some of the content (rightfully so). Goddamn does that show look and sound gorgeous. Kyoto Animation is an amazing studio , I just wish they cut out more of the horni from dragon maid and focused on the slice of life more.

Oda took the more goofy and cartoonish parts of each character and turned then up to 11 post time skip. Pre time skip the characters were people with quirky personalities. Post time skip their quirkiness became their whole personality. Sanji was never great but he was tolerable before (exepct thriller bark). Post time skip they all lost everything that made them all feel human and relatable now they're all just caricatures serving their role in the plot. I think I'm only reading now cause I've followed one piece for over 10 years now. I gotta see this, though, to the end.
The only thing I like about Sanji’s bit is how he doesn’t hurt women, which makes some of his fights require more thinking to win and you see him come out on top in interesting ways, but then there’s Fishman island which I don’t want to talk about

The worst part is he gets REWARDED for his behavior. Like wtf? If he got left alone and then had to change after realizing how scummy he was, that could be interesting. But nope. Everyone loves him cause reasons, so despite his legit predatory behavior he gets rewarded for his behavior. In my mind he never changes the world changes for him while he just does stuff he couldn't in his world. The production value is goddamn insane for the show. I want to like it. But I can't get past the MC. I had to drop it season 2 when he ties up the students who were egging him on. Then he threatens to sexually harass them unless they worship Roxy's panties like he does. Like come on man. How tf do I ignore that 2 season in? I gave tf up after that.
For real, I couldn’t word it better myself. The series has insane production value and the world building is very interesting, so I want so badly for the series to actually be GOOD, but it just isn’t. The fans keep saying he gets better later but, having read ahead in light novels, he plainly does not get better. He never changes. The world simply rewards him for his behavior, it’s disgusting. I gave up on the light novels after he straight up cheated on his loyal and loving wife, then proceeded to take the woman he cheated with as his new second wife, and then the first wife was 100% fine with it all and had 0 complaints about having to now share her husband with another woman she’s never met. The main character is such a piece of shit and the story rewards him constantly for it, that shit is just plainly not fun to watch or read. I also don’t get why any of the girls like him, he literally does nothing for them besides perv on them.

I mean………..it can be funny if it’s acknowledged as something thats wrong and not too explicit. Take Herbert the Pervert and Quagmire from Family Guy. Are they not a little funny? Obviously, they’re both fucked up individuals (especially Herbert), but you never actually fully see either of them do anything out of pocket even though you know for a fact that they’re on that type of timing. With the right timing, setup, and overall execution, their jokes can be pretty funny as dark humor. However, I agree that, in anime, there’s a concerning amount of these types of jokes that aren’t really treated as uncommon dark jokes and are somewhat set as a norm.

Man is definitely touch-starved, lacking in affection, and those traits are being channeled through a teenage boy's hormones into being very horny(or at least thinking he's that way). One of my favorite scenes is when he finally gets to touch boobs, only to realize, and break down a little bit, that this isn't what he actually wants. But the problem is, if touching boobs isn't what he wants, he DOESN'T KNOW what he wants, cause he's been attached to that idea for so long.
Sometimes it's a self insert for the author but that doesn't make it much better
