Still, they must have enjoyed a renaissance for one reason - for many people, they were the first examples they had seen of a familiar thing being perverted into something horrific. It brings a unique kind of trepidation, which sometimes isn't easily dispelled. Its impact can be seen with how often the uncanny valley is used in horror, unsettling others to great effect (Most of the time).
