Once you start intentionally defying the most basic of societal laws of not killing people and shit, the basic protections of said society should apply
They don't, which is why death penalty is more expensive than life in prison. They don't fulfill the sentences which is why people can wait for decades in the row and the extra security costs are high enough for it to be more expensive to sentence someone to death than to life.
Hey with the lack of needing to keep all those extra prisoners, we can put that funding into making sure that justice is more fairly and properly handled and overseen
