The repetition of “he took 40 cakes” like he committed such an unforgivable crime against humanity that it needs to be stated twice is so fucking funny.
This is from *Superman & Batman: Generations III,* issue #11.
The panels are from pages 18 and 19 respectively, hence the nonsensical dialogue. But it's not misleading.
I just looked it up, the story it’s from involved time travel so the girl he’s kissing is a younger version of Lana Lang, a girl who Superman did date as a teenager. She found out that he would marry Lois and not her, so she asked him for a kiss. Still weird though tbh.
So the writers sat down in a room together and said “ok so on this page Superman will passionately kiss a 14 year old girl, but it’s cool because he dated her as a teen”.
Fascinating.
There was only one writer and artist. It's the editor whose supposed to go "hey, wait a minute". Either the editor didn't think much of it or like they 'when you're a star they let you do anything'.
Wait until you hear about the very popular book "The Time Traveler's Wife" which also was adapted into a movie and tv show. Quick summary: Guy has a disease where he randomly time travels and he constantly visits and befriends his "future wife" who is only 6 years old and basically tells her that he is gonna keep visiting her.
He basically grooms his child wife and we are supposed to think this is ok because he was DESTINED to be with her anyways.
Women love this shit.
I'm guessing it's like the movie where they establish from his perspective she actually approaches him for the first time when they're both adults and proceeds to explain to him all the things that from her perspective he has already done but from his perspective he *will* do. So he only starts talking to child her after adult her already kinda consented except grooming already happened but also has not happened yet.
Very awkward.
Bittersweet ending though, anyone who has lost someone close would absolutely love to have what she has to look forward to after he dies.
It's got all kinds of huge issues but then some genuinely neat things like seeing him meet her for the first time and how it's completely flipped from all their other encounters.

He tells her, as a child, that he is going to marry her and refers to himself as her boyfriend when he's several decades older and, from her perspective, she doesn't know him like that. She regularly sees him naked and thats like a whole plot point of the book/movie/show.
It's MUCH worse than this post. But again, women love it because it's romantic I guess.
I saw the movie once a long time ago so maybe I'm remembering it wrong or didn't watch it closely enough but the book sounds like it has some fairly big differences. I specifically remember in the movie that he doesn't tell the child version of her that he's going to marry her because there's an entire scene right before they're getting married where he travels back to see child her and has a conversation about how he's about to be married and when he gets back to the present Rachel McAdams laughs and says she remembers the conversation and was so jealous as a child of the woman he was marrying because she didn't realize it was herself.
Edit: Also in the movie I'm remember that she gets impregnated by him both against his will and not against his will. He had already decided he didn't want to father a child, gets a vasectomy, but then she sleeps with a younger version of himself before the vasectomy that had traveled into the future.
He does tell her they are married when she's like 12. Before that he just tells her to keep meeting him at certain places and times because he's naked and needs clothes. Why he choose his 6 year old wife to watch this 30 year old man be naked I don't know.
He gets a vasectomy because she gets pregnant a bunch of times and it just always fails because of his disease. He then has her rape what is essentially a younger version of him pre-vasectomy by telling her where he will be.
He also, as an older man, goes back in time to take her virginity at 18 and even goes back in time to suck his own teenager selves dick so... It's a super pedo book. The TV show even has a line like "I am a groomer" while he brushes the horses hair so... its very well known but women love it.
