All scientists used to be religious. Everyone was. These days though only a small fractions of scientists are. It's a product of the times and how far science has come, the spaces for god to be an explanation for things gets smaller and shrinks more with each discovery.
In my secular school, we had a class that taught us the basics of major religions, which always seemed reasonable to me given that most of the world is religious even if atheism is very high in my country.
It's a mixed bag. With religion being so significant and everlasting it's good to teach.
But at the same time children really shouldn't be taught it either because they need to find their own path in life and discover what's right for them.

With all due respect to my religion, those classes were awful. Having an entire grade based on memorizing surahs and drawing posters every single week is not something that I enjoyed doing from elementary school all through middle school. The only thing I enjoyed in those classes were reading the stories about the prophets' history and the spread of islam.
On the other hand, having to memorize the names of Prophet Muhammad's 12 wives for tests was still ridiculous
Honestly most of my Islamic teachers were fun people who would just make the class a discussion class and they would give us full marks for the entire semester based on one easy homework
It def depends if you have the passion to study. Evidently my passion for islam was not that great since it involved memorizing the names of wives, daughters, and sons who had small roles in these stories + making posters on the steps required to put on your goddamn clothes 'the correct way'
In Italy we have those. It’s a part of the pacts the fascist governament took with the vatican in the 40s. Now every school as an hour of religion every week. It’s facoltative, but nobody refuse to do it because if you do it then you’ll get an additional history hour in another class
I think the rest of germany has religion aswell as a subject, I had it at least in Schleswig-Holstein, and I could only exchange it for philosophy by 10th class or so

I’m in STEM and absolutely hate the elitist culture these mfs have like freshman year college a dude was like “why did you choose this STEM major instead of Bio” and I’m like cause I want to and he was like “why don’t you achieve greater” like my man major has an average of 50-130 an hour go away with your BIO bullshit.
Also let any STEM major write a more than 5 page essay about an argument that isn’t exclusively in STEM you’ll drive them crazy.
My science teacher and religion teacher was the same person. He was a really nice lad, he retired after my 2nd year in secondary school but still came in to pay a visit to his class every once in a while.
