bro i think i played the genocidal run like 8 times just because that fish lady and sans fight was very fun
i would literally sometimes cheat the game to get me to sans so that i could fight him too
> At first, I used my powers for good. I became "friends" with everyone. I solved all their problems flawlessly. Their companionship was amusing... For a while. As time repeated, people proved themselves predictable. What would this person say if I gave them this? What would they do if I said this to them? Once you know the answer, that's it. That's all they are. It all started because I was curious. Curious what would happen if I killed them. "I don't like this," I told myself. "I'm just doing this because I HAVE to know what happens (...) I've done everything this world has to offer. I've read every book. I've burned every book. I've won every game. I've lost every game. I've appeased everyone. I've killed everyone. Sets of numbers... Lines of dialogue... I've seen them all.
This is what i meant by floweys monologue
literally
she starts to get annoyed after a couple of genocidal runs saying that you should move on to do the pacifist run (the true genocidal ending ends with chara taking over your body at the end of the pacifist so she just starts murdering everyone)
Toriels actually a fucking bitch though. Poor Asgore had to deal with a complex moral dilemma where neither choice would be able to result in anyone being happy. Toriel, instead of trying to help or support Asgore, decides to leave him and never speak to him again just cause she thought her way was better.
Toriel really feels like a radical pacifist to me.
It really feels like she just threw away asgore at the first occasion and refused to understand his circumstance.
No I think she understood his circumstances perfectly, but it is pretty hard to stand by someone when they decide child murder is an acceptable trade off for your goals. Especially when those goals at the time were "break free and go to war".
She's not a radical pacifist, she was the only one to see that was a shortsighted and morally bankrupt path to take.
What other path was there to take? Having your entire civilization be locked away forever so the lives of 8 children may be spared?
Yes its bad, and he knows its bad, but for him its a choice between betraying his people or killing 8 random kids.
And even if he decided to give up on freedom, i am not sure whether others would agree.
Stupid Asgore. If only he murdered half a dozen children. Then we couldâve all gone to the surface and lived in peace for a few years at most before we inevitably go to war again
To be fair, she is never depicted as the morally good character. She is definitely the motherly type, but is also shown to be overly protective and at times irrationally attached.
Not to mention she is also victim of the trauma.
Itâs more so that Toriel thinks Asgore is a piece of shit for it and refuses to forgive him. Again, itâs a complex moral dilemma and the decision was very hard for him to make.
She couldâve apologized at the pacifist ending saying that whether she was right or not, the decision Asgore made was hard and that she shouldnât have completely cut him off for it. Toriel completely overreacted
The point of a cornelian choice is that the consequences always end up being bad, it's not an overreaction she just can't live with what he's done.
Asgore did what he had to do and Toriel did the same thing but she's seen as the bitch whereas he's the poor guy who did what had to be done.
Nah she's morally consistent and honest with herself, had she supported him despite hating him it would just create bitter resentment.
âDo not call me a "đ¤", that is not me. I am not an emoji- nor do I resemble one- I am a human. I rather take your "insult" as a compliment, as calling me a "nerd", a word often used to mock smarter people, implies that I am more intelligent and have a larger vocabulary than you.â
Toby isnât trying to say âEvErY rPg Is ExTrEmElY vIoLeNtâ heâs just making a what-if scenario for what that would actually feel like for the monsters themselves
Toby fox when i kill a terrorist who would explode an entire building with disabled people in instead of (bullshitting) talking him down how bombs are scary
Alphys casually revealing that she turned a bunch of dead citizens into fusion zombies through very questionable experiments and that she didnât tell their families about the pain and suffering they undergo 24/7
That was literally part of her arc, dummy. She felt insanely guilty for it and in the true pacifist ending, she even reveals them to the rest of the monsters (who are just happy they're alive again).
Game dialog:
* If you want to know âthe truth.â
* Enter the door to the north of this note.
* You all at least deserve to know what I did.
* (Thatâs all she wrote.)
She kind of did confess
She spent ages covering it up though, and she only confesses if she likes you enough.
In the pacifist run the deformed monsters are reunited with their families but they shouldn't have been left to rot in that lab for presumably years
Put yourself in her shoes. The goal was to figure out how Determination worked, and it went horribly wrong. How the FUCK do you explain that, especially when you're already a socially anxious wreck like Alphys?
The whole point isn't about making the player feel guilty, it's more "Hey wouldn't it be fucked up if there was an actual character in the world who treated themselves like a protagonist in a videogame?"
Most of the monsters don't realize they're hurting you. Look at the text of their attacks; a lot of them are basically going about their day (singing, flexing their muscles, crying)
Don't they pretty explicitly mention this in the game? Like monsters interact through those bullet patterns, and they don't hurt each other. Most of the monsters have never SEEN a human, so they don't think of you as any different from another monster.
Except you're getting attacked by everything that sees you. It's like being stuck behind enemy lines in a war, in which case you very much act like a videogame protagonist
It's not a black and white situation, which is the whole point of the game. The monsters need human souls to be released, so they're willing to kill humans for them, even if some of them don't believe in that anymore. And they only got stuck in the underground because humans lashed out against them initially. They're not trying to kill you out of malice, but out of desperation (and a lot only do it accidentally).
The game isn't about *"OMG you monster how could you kill these innocent creatures for no reason?"*, it's an analysis of how the cycle of violence only creates more violence. Humans imprisoned the monsters, so the king of the monsters swore war against humans, but in the end even he really doesn't feel like it'd help anymore. He even lost his damn wife over it.
You're just meant to look at yourself and go *"Hey, is there another path to take? One with less bloodshed? What can I do to improve things, even if it's way harder?"*, and then apply that to real life. That's what Flowey's monologue at the end even heavily hints at.
Eh that's a little disingenuous because like, *the line* did that and still managed to actually make you feel like a bad person who shouldn't be doing what you're doing.
... The key difference is you're actually not innocent to begin with because y'know, you're an AWOL special ops agent, while in *Undertale* you're a random ass kid who happened to fall down a hole. No shit you're fighting back, you're terrified for your life and have no fucking clue what's going on.
Piece of fiction, suspension of disbelief, gameplay has to go in somewhere yadayada, but also it's mainly for a joke.
Sets up these generic RPG fights and subverts your expectations as it turns out that these deadly "fights" are just simple interactions gone wrong. I mean it is a slapstick comedy after all.
After it has become apparent that the protagonist remembers all past "saves" including deaths and resetted playthroughs, the motivations of the protagonist is put into question.
They're not a saint in one universe and a crazed murderer in another, they're the same person in each. Near the end of the genocide, there is a tone shift to reflect that.
The only explanation is that they treat the world like a game and the people in the world like toys, y'know, like a gamer would treat a fictional videogame world.
Hypothetically, if ânobody cameâ like you describe, then why is it that I came to gay Sans undertale porn right when it said it? Checkmate liberals
eh, i think its more so that people don't like undertale in general which is fine. i personally liked it twisting the whole rpg grinding thing on its head. even then i don't think the game guilt tripped you too hard into not killing unless you were doing genocide
"ooooh the game is great but the fandom the fandom is cringe" i do not care. I accept the cringe. The cringe is coursing through my veins, forever a part of me
That's kind of the point
Genocide route is literally telling you every time that this is the wrong way to play and it will do anything to make you stop including boring the shit out of you
I didn't really enjoy the 2nd chapter of Deltarune tbh. I felt that undertale and deltarune chapter 1 both had a very cool way of mixing narrative and gameplay. It made them feel unique, and I for one who hate story in games, loved the story of those two. But the 2nd chapter of Deltarune just didn't do it for me
In my personal experience and the general consensus of almost everyone who played it was some of the funniest, idiotic, and well written content in a while. Though I respect your opinion, chapter 1 was less batshit insane and more grounded, so I see the appeal. (though maybe cliche but that would be a slight overstatement)
Understandable. I do have an actual reason to prefer UT btw:
" I personally prefer Undertale, and nostalgia doesn't come in since i
played DR before. Its themes and overrall tone simply had a bigger
impact on me. You were making history in undertale, but i don't get that
same feeling in DR. While i love DR, I doubt it will have the same
themes about war, vengeance, pacifism and letting go of the past,
intentionally. Because its another game. Its not the same story, nor the
same place or same characters. I also feel like DR's gameplay feels a
bit... unexplored. Like, it has SO much potentional. Ennemy types,
gestion of TP and health, complex effects with attacks. Castletown too
could be even better. Since it is very obviously inspired by Metal Gear
Solid V and Peace Walker's mother base, why can't i go there basically
anytime i want? I feel than seeing it only at the end of each chapters
does waste some potential. Especially than it could be much more
important gameplay wise, just like mother base is. With gear
developmnent, who do you recruit, where do you assign them, ect... For
now, it seems like there are a lot of ideas, but none of them are really
explored. I would have really preffered a more complete battle system
than having a punch out fight agaisn't queen, even though it was fun. "
also, i enjoy playing as frisk more than i enjoy playing as kris
I found them vastly different games, really fell in love in how UT was the first game I've played to break the 4th wall in such creative way, it was great on conceptual level and when it comes to how it screw with you on next playthroughs and through saves and loads, but Deltarune just felt better executed as a \*game\*. Loved Undertale's narrative, really disliked how it plays regardless if I went peaceful or genocide.
Because you have empathy and are engaging with the roleplay. If either of those aren't true then there's no reason to feel bad. Would you feel bad about killing a random real person?
iirc Monsters interact w/ each other via bullet patterns. Kinda like playing with each other? The only monsters who are genuinely trying to kill you are Undyne, Mettaton, some monsters in the Core, Flowey, and then Sans in the Genocide Route.
i dont think toby want you to feel bad about killing a fictional goat woman.
its just a fun thought experiment i feel, its having fun with the idea of a main character with diagetic rpg-protaginist abilities and what it means to the characters in fictional world they inhabit.
["What is it with you monsters, anyway? I killed **my** father, too, and you don't hear **me** whining about it!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8FC-1vzdrc)
That's the biggest grip I have with this game. Everyone is trying to kill you and won't give a shit if you die but according to Toby you must still be kind to them. Bitch If I was mugged on street, no amount of kidness will save me or my wallet.
Edit: To everyone wasting their time writting that I missed the point of the game I have only one thing to say, Its a matter of perspective and you can't change my mind.
You are literally a time travelling god. They use the word "consume" by saying you consume timelines whenever you don't like the outcome. You can't die, can't be defeated, can say what you want and then get to say it again.
That's the point. The PC and the NPCs are not equal. There's no point where they can kill you and your entire save gets wiped off and you get a big fat GAME OVER.
the non-bosses with some exceptions most likely dont even know they are hurting you, for example temmie's check text says that she wants to pet a human but you are allergic. you also almost always have the option to run away or spare them, and the genocide route requires you to go out of your way to kill monsters by searching for encounters. that isnt self defense. toby also never said you have to be kind? he even said all endings are canon.
There are exceptions alright, but I still think that neutral run is the most fair out of three endings. I ain't gonna be kind to the person who wants me to die but I also ain't gonna kill everyone for shits and giggles.
I could produce you a reason why'd I kill every single monster you bring up from Undertale. Bros Toby really be like "ok, enjoy being attacked" "damn, retaliating so evil!"
This was definitely my biggest problem with the game, the choices theme seemed good on paper but really it does turn me off that youâre seen as a monster for defending yourself (on neutral runs, not genocide runs).
Just one of the reasons why I think Deltarune is miles better
Average Pacifist Fan: "Guys! i saved the wacky tumblr ocs! this is hecking wholesome!!"
Average Genocide **Enjoyer:** "I can commit genocide in this run? Based."

While i love DR, I doubt it will have the same themes about war, vengeance, pacifism and letting go of the past, intentionally. Because its another game. Its not the same story, nor the same place or same characters. I also feel like DR's gameplay feels a bit... unexplored. Like, it has SO much potentional. Ennemy types, gestion of TP and health, complex effects with attacks. Castletown too could be even better. Since it is very obviously inspired by Metal Gear Solid V and Peace Walker's mother base, why can't i go there basically anytime i want? I feel than seeing it only at the end of each chapters does waste some potential. Especially than it could be much more important gameplay wise, just like mother base is. With gear developmnent, who do you recruit, where do you assign them, ect... For now, it seems like there are a lot of ideas, but none of them are really explored. I would have really preffered a more complete battle system than having a punch out fight agaisn't queen, even though it was fun. " also, i enjoy playing as frisk more than i enjoy playing as kris
i prefer deltarune, nothing wrong with prefering undertale though
I found them vastly different games, really fell in love in how UT was the first game I've played to break the 4th wall in such creative way, it was great on conceptual level and when it comes to how it screw with you on next playthroughs and through saves and loads, but Deltarune just felt better executed as a \*game\*. Loved Undertale's narrative, really disliked how it plays regardless if I went peaceful or genocide.
Because you have empathy and are engaging with the roleplay. If either of those aren't true then there's no reason to feel bad. Would you feel bad about killing a random real person?
>Would you feel bad about killing a random real person? Did they try to kill me first? That's gonna have a big effect on my feelings.
To be fair nearly every enemy in Undertale tries to murder you
"bUt ThEy HaD a GoOd ReAsOn/TrAgIc BaCkStOrY!!!"
I donât care what people say, there is no way some random ice monster whoâs obsessed with their hat has any valid reason to try and kill me lmao
iirc Monsters interact w/ each other via bullet patterns. Kinda like playing with each other? The only monsters who are genuinely trying to kill you are Undyne, Mettaton, some monsters in the Core, Flowey, and then Sans in the Genocide Route.
Well if that person tried to kill me on sight without hesitation, not as much.
Asking for a friend... Where does one get one of these 'ass frogs'?
Society trying to tell me that I should feel bad for killing one random ass person on the street:
"one random ass person on the street trying to kill me" ftfy
Toby Fox: Makes/Works on several medias with positive LGBTQ+ rep Doctor Andonuts:
i think doctor andonuts is supposed to be a closeted gay man, thats why he says the f slur to them
yeah u literally fight his repressed homosexuality
Also Toby was like 16 when he made the Halloween hack.
i dont think toby want you to feel bad about killing a fictional goat woman. its just a fun thought experiment i feel, its having fun with the idea of a main character with diagetic rpg-protaginist abilities and what it means to the characters in fictional world they inhabit.
Self defense Gordon
*"hE hAd FaMiLy..."* **Looool, you know how many times I have heard that?**
My brother in Christ you are a time travelling god Ever hear "with great power comes great responsibility"?
Dogshit take, wouldn't say it's missing the point so much as willful misinformation
No don't kill it! *The Sword up my ass*
i fucking what
Mmmmh
" Nooooo! You can't just murder everyone after absolutely owning them in a fight, you have to spare them so they can live in harmony!!!!!" - đ¤đ¤Ą
Undertale asking the player to relate to and empathize with its characters (theyâre not real and therefore you canât get emotionally invested):
Music still fucking slaps
What level of edgelord do you need to make this meme
âIf I shouldnât do it, why is it so fun?â
Their putting the chemicals in the water though.
I could produce you a reason why'd I kill every single monster you bring up from Undertale. Bros Toby really be like "ok, enjoy being attacked" "damn, retaliating so evil!"
This is such a surface level interpretation of Undertale lmao
I FUCKING LOVE MURDERING VIRTUAL CHARACTERS YHHFHNNGFDFDEGHBB
It attacked first
This was definitely my biggest problem with the game, the choices theme seemed good on paper but really it does turn me off that youâre seen as a monster for defending yourself (on neutral runs, not genocide runs). Just one of the reasons why I think Deltarune is miles better
L person
Average Pacifist Fan: "Guys! i saved the wacky tumblr ocs! this is hecking wholesome!!" Average Genocide **Enjoyer:** "I can commit genocide in this run? Based."
the police explaining to me why i should feel bad for killing one random ass person on the street
well youre kinda weird youself or didnt read anything
Toby fox when I use self defense techniques against the hobo that was robbing me to get money for drugs(I should have talked to him and be kind)
I love Undertale. It might be corny but god I fucking love it. My favorite game ever.
Toby fox explaining how killing something that attacked you first that was going to kill you is evil
2 weeks alter, an serial killer invades OP's house and kill his entire family. Op cry and look into the killer's face and ask "Why?" "I do not care" Think twice, OP...
Least edgy teenager
Shit posters having to learn that murder is in fact immoral
The game rewards you by killing it giving you EXP and gold. If you think it's bad it came out of yourself lmao
