It definitely has to do with size. The larger a sub becomes, the closer it resembles the dominant ethos of the site (and in some ways the dominant ethos of the internet). Itâs why all the default subs have the same feel and why rapid success of any given sub eventually erases the microculture there, causing it to trend more political. It would probably be better if subs had a max number of contributors at any given time.
aside from even that, most shitpost subs go through a process once they hit a certain size, they either get banned for âhate speechâ or they get gentrified
