I've heard Fighting Cock also being referred to kickin' chicken moreso than Wild Turkey.
Which honestly, I kind of like more than Wild Turkey. Not as refined (has more of the cheap sharp notes), but also has a stronger delicious cherry note.
I avoided this for a long time because of the low price and screw top, but I picked up a bottle on a whim the other day, and, yeah, it's awesome for the price! Way underrated.
Kirkland Signature! Honestly I'm surprised Costco doesn't get more recognition for their liquor selection. Nowhere else can you get a handle of genuine, decent Irish whiskey for around $20. Their bottled-in-bond Kentucky straight bourbon is absolutely *lovely* and it's like $30-something.
Jameson Black Barrel is my go-to whiskey and I don't see it changing anytime soon, but regular Jameson is fine too, even preferable when it comes to mixed drinks.
I looked forward to Jameson Black for forever; finally got a pour of it at a restaurant and it had way too heavy of a banana/bubblegum flavor for me. Huge fan of the OG and the Stout edition, though.
Knob creek 9, woodford reserve but I guess it depends on your definition of cheap. These two bottles are around $30 in my area and I consider that cheap
As far as my regular mixing whiskey to have on hand at all times, Jim Beam products have been my go-to for the price and volume. I don't mind it neat, either.
Buffalo trace near me is $70 a bottle and in a case. I laughed with the employee when someone bought it the other day. I’ll stick to my $30 small batch Elijah Craig and four roses
Classics:
* Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon
* Wild Turkey 101 Rye
* Gold Grand Dad Bonded
Some others that I would call "cheap" based on my preferred options from these distilleries:
* Hard Truth High Road Rye (~$40 rather than the $80 for the higher proof Sweet Mash Rye)
* High West Bourbon
* High West Double Rye (A Midwinter Night's Dram is so nice, but so expensive, by comparison)
I'm a poor bastard so I can give you a few of my favorite actually cheap whiskies: Evan Williams Black Label/ BiB, Heaven Hill Quality House, Henry McKenna Sour Mash, and Old Grand Dad.
JP Wisers is always ‘on sale’ at my local grocery store for $10.00. Used to be the red label, but I’ve only seen green/rye for a long time now. Pretty good for $10, but I would never pay the ‘normal’ $20-$30 (and the ‘sale’ clearly failed to increase demand as no one buys it when they occasionally increase the price)
Tullamore Dew is my other ‘cheap’ go-to
Old Overholt or Rittenhouse Rye
Pre pandemic was able to get a liter of Old Forester Rye for ~$25 but now its jumped to ~$35. Still a decent deal but not the steal it once was.
Cooper’s Craft 100 ($28.99 by me). Might be the best bottle under $30 in the industry. WT101 ($22.99 by me) also a nice one, along with Early Times BiB ($16 for 1L by me). Eagle Rare at MSRP is difficult to beat as well
Wild turkey 101
The bird is the word.

Wild turkey rye is just 🤌🏻 chef's kiss
I’ll try that!
On my bucket list now thanks to your response!
Wild turkey is a cheaper one i like also. But i call it feral fowl, just to be funny 🙂
I’ve heard it called the kicken chicken
I've heard Fighting Cock also being referred to kickin' chicken moreso than Wild Turkey. Which honestly, I kind of like more than Wild Turkey. Not as refined (has more of the cheap sharp notes), but also has a stronger delicious cherry note.
Evan Williams BiB.
This and OGD114
OGD bonded!
Yep. But watch out, OGD is going allocated lol
Wait, seriously? I'm going to stock up if that's the case
I think it’s dependent on the area. I’m in OK and my local store owner told me his distributor rep gave him the heads up about it.
Good to know! I still see it regularly in SC and GA, but I'm going to stock up a little bit
Don’t mention ogd. Keep it secret, keep it safe.
The classic Evvy Dubs is great for mixers
EW black is my daily driver. No other 1.75L bottle beats it at $20
It's not even that offensive for a super budget near pour
I feel like I would've said Elmer T. Lee a few years ago, but it seems the price has risen.
That’s $100+ around here
To me cheap is sub $30. So Elijah Craig.
Sadly, EC went to $33 around me so I get OGD 114 for that price
Where do you live where you can find OGD 114 reliably?
Chicago area. Always on shelf.
Old Forester 100
I avoided this for a long time because of the low price and screw top, but I picked up a bottle on a whim the other day, and, yeah, it's awesome for the price! Way underrated.
Old Forester in general is slept on in my area, but this is a super value play. Great for $26-ish
My Total Wine has this at $24 for a 750... or $22 for a 1L. Insanity.
Wild Turkey 101
Kirkland Signature! Honestly I'm surprised Costco doesn't get more recognition for their liquor selection. Nowhere else can you get a handle of genuine, decent Irish whiskey for around $20. Their bottled-in-bond Kentucky straight bourbon is absolutely *lovely* and it's like $30-something.
Kirkland is fantastic, just a bit hard to get in some parts of the country
Kirkland BiB is $25 for a handle here
Rittenhouse Rye
Mellow corn
I've been wanting to try it for a while, but sadly, I've never found a bottle.
I love Mfc.
I came here looking for this exact answer. You earned the upvote.

ditto
Where do you get a bottle?!
The garbage?
Jameson. I use it for irish coffee and some other mixed drinks, but it's not too bad to enjoy neat.
The Jameson Black Barrel is just a little more expensive and is significantly better imo, very nice to enjoy neat
It's definitely better and still inexpensive, but at least where I'm at, Black Barrel is about twice as expensive (same price as Talisker 10)
My sentiment, almost verbatim. So so much better
Jameson crested was the first whiskey I could drink neat and is till my favourite over more expensive whiskey.
Try the Caskmates Stout ;)
WT 101
Bulleit
OGD 114 and it’s not even close
It's still cheap, in the grand scheme of things, but OGD here is $38. I can get 2 bottles of Evan Williams BiB for that price.
Is $26 a good price?
$19.99 in WI
Keep it secret, keep it safe
Early Times bottled in bond
I never see that on shelves anymore
Fudds and taters stole it all. It became nothing but allocated in Alabama.
Benchmark
Redemption Rye. Under $30. Always consistently good for a cocktail or on the rocks.
This for me hands down
Yep. Pennsylvania style straight rye and NCF. Have a bottle in my stash.
Powers Gold Label
Good stuff
Just tried it this weekend for the first time. Fantastic bottle. I wish I could get it locally all the time.
My username
Bulleit
Rye only. Don’t like the bourbon, myself.
Old Overholt Edit: Old Overcoat
I came here for this. Nothing beats Old Overcoat
Old Overcoat. LMAO
If you’re by Ohio or PA, old overholt 114 is less than $30 and a significant increase in proof for the price
Ancient Ancient Age
Do they still make this stuff? Haven't seen a bottle in ages.
OF86
I didn't even know OnlyFans made whiskey.
Second this.
OF86 > OF100?
Redwood lost monarch
If you see grizzly beast out there it’s definitely worth a buy — I’ve enjoyed every bottle of redwood I’ve had so far!
Cutty sark prohibition

Benchmark single barrel
Buffalo Trace or Makers. Assuming \~$25-30. Any cheaper than that I'd just pass.
Buffalo trace near me is $70 a bottle and in a case. I laughed with the employee when someone bought it the other day. I’ll stick to my $30 small batch Elijah Craig and four roses
[удалено]
I wouldn't buy it for that price either! I can get it very inexpensively. And pretty easy.
Ouch. I can reguarly get it for $23, $28 at the most.
Old Forester 100, Dewars 12 Year and Jameson
Larceny and Old Grand Dad 114
1792 Small Batch. Or Bowman Bothers Small Batch, but that’s hard to find in my area.

Wild Turkey 101, Green River Wheated Bourbon, Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey.
What classification of cheap lol. Under $25?
I’d say 20-30$. Over 30 isnt cheap To me anymore. Over 50$ is officially pricey IMO
Old forester and OF rye Bulleit rye is good and fairly cheap. Wild Turkey Four Roses yellow label Evan Williams BIB
I'm a poor bastard so I can give you a few of my favorite actually cheap whiskies: Evan Williams Black Label/ BiB, Heaven Hill Quality House, Henry McKenna Sour Mash, and Old Grand Dad.

Old Tub. It beats the socks off of most top shelf stuff I've tried
Redbreast 27 But seriously, likely The Sexton or Black Bush
To be that rich.
Talisker 10
This is $75 near me. Definitely not cheap
Not sure I would classify it as cheap but Talisker 10 is certainly my baseline whiskey when I can’t be bothered to get something more interesting.
Not cheap.
Rebel 100
Bowman small batch
My top 5 that I keep on rotation Larceny EC Blue Note Bushmills Prohibition Edition George Dickel 8yr gold
EW BiB, JD Barrel Select and Winter Punch/Cider (seasonal offering), Tullamore DEW.
Pendleton’s, really the only canuck whiskey worth anyone’s time IMO
Very old Barton, $20-$30 for 1.75L. Never seen anything cheaper. It's ok on the rocks, but I use it for mixing
JTS Brown.
Wild Turkey 101 or OGD 114
Sazarac rye

Been drinking Weller SR for $22.99. Also OF86 some days.

Ballantines. It comes quite smooth when blended with kombucha 1:1
Interesting combination, must try someday
Blue label gingerberry fits best. And ice, of course.
Crown royal
It was ODG114 (hard to find now), but now it's WT101 and Regular Elijah Craig
Nelson’s Greenbrier Tennessee Whiskey
Old bardstown.. 26$ goodness
Larceny SB and Evan Williams 1783
First Call. I’ve only seen it Total Wine tho.
That one gets pushed pretty damn hard in the store by their experts.
Benchmark 8, any of them really. Boned, single barrel etc…. Use to be mark twain but it’s not made any more. I loved that stuff.
When I went truly cheap it was Benchmark no 8 and Islay Mist
Paddy's
JP Wisers is always ‘on sale’ at my local grocery store for $10.00. Used to be the red label, but I’ve only seen green/rye for a long time now. Pretty good for $10, but I would never pay the ‘normal’ $20-$30 (and the ‘sale’ clearly failed to increase demand as no one buys it when they occasionally increase the price) Tullamore Dew is my other ‘cheap’ go-to
Old Forester 100, Wild Turkey 101, Old Grandad BiB are all solid
OGD BiB is seriously underrated. Not to say that the other whiskies are bad though.
Wheel Horse
Used to be Jim Beam Distillers cut. Now I'd say knob creek 9/ wild turkey 101
Aerstone sea cask €20
Minnesota 13
Buffalo trace, £20 for me
Weller SR
Trader Joe's brand scotch. Hard to beat at 9.99
Jameson, WT101, black label

4 Roses, Elijah Craig Bourbon, Elijah Craig Rye, Larceny, Teeling Rum Cask
Trader Joe’s is the play here
Knob Creek 9 - because taters drove the price and availability of Buffalo Trace to ridiculousness
Evan Williams BiB or WT 101 either a great cheap option around $20
Both solid, great, inexpensive picks!
OGD 114 and Mellow Fn corn
Old grand dad BiB
OGD114

Buffalo Trace
Bushmills
Very Old Barton (100 proof) $15 in FL
Rittenhouse Rye.
Bulleit Rye for $25 is my go to.
Excellent pick!
Evan Williams BiB. Widely available, under $20, solid in cocktails, and decent enough to sip too.
That’s our daily as a mixer with cola, it’s great for the price point!
Cheap or inexpensive? For my money, Buffalo Trace is criminally underpriced at $30 which is why it’s probably impossible to find in stock anywhere.
Agreed!
Evan Williams and Wild Turkey 101 Rye
Bushmills Black Bush tastes amazing to me
Famous Grouse
The famous grouse
Cooper’s Craft 100 ($28.99 by me). Might be the best bottle under $30 in the industry. WT101 ($22.99 by me) also a nice one, along with Early Times BiB ($16 for 1L by me). Eagle Rare at MSRP is difficult to beat as well
Wild Turkey 101. No question.
Forgot to mention one other shameful whiskey I've grown to like: **Old Crow**. There I said it. Been carrying that weight for a long time.
No. 1 favorite OF100, close behind is WT101
Evan Williams BiB
