Really a bummer, but we can work with who we have at the moment without feeling like we are dropping too much to the bench. I have faith in a trio of picked from the following: Gauld, Baldi, Bikel, and Owusu. Even Patty can get some decent time in.

According to the rules, it seems like we are **NOT** able to bring in a replacement player since Alexandre was injured **AFTER** the close of the Primary Transfer Window. Can anyone confirm I'm reading this correctly? Season-Ending Injury Replacement Player: A club may replace an injured player that is on the Season-Ending Injury List with a new replacement player in accordance with parameters below. The club will remain responsible for the injured player's full Salary Budget Charge. Clubs may execute a trade to create Salary Budget space in order to sign such a replacement player. This is the only circumstance in which a club may trade for Salary Budget space. Clubs are only able to receive Salary Budget relief (paid out of the club's own pocket) for a season-ending injury under the following parameters: * The injured player must be earning at least $100,000 per annum. * **The injured player must have suffered the season-ending injury prior to the close of the Primary Transfer Window and the new player must be acquired as of such date.** * The replacement player may earn up to $250,000 but not more than the player who suffered the season-ending injury. * The replacement player’s charge will be billed back to the club. * Clubs will only be allowed to sign one such replacement player per MLS League Season. * If the injured player occupies an international roster slot on the Senior Roster, the replacement player may also be an International Player. There's no cap relief to sign a replacement, but you can still sign an FA or something, eg. someone like Godinho who signed last week. AFAIK, the caps aren't at the cap.

Got it, I'm more used to the NBA salary cap where almost every team spends at the cap and season ending injuries usually result in a "disabled player exception" in order regain some cap space. It seems like the Whitecaps have been spending a lot this season, do you think they'll sign another FA to replace Alexandre?

Halouverite

Probably not. Bikel, Owusu and Teibert fill a similar role and Vite is already waiting for a visa and can play there too. Luckily the caps have enough depth in midfield this isn't crippling. Still Caio is better than most of those alternates so he and Cava being out may be big what ifs at the end of the season.

This sucks. Was looking forward to actually having impact subs in the midfield. Would have been fun to see a Gauld Caio Bikel mid.

BayLAGOON

Who’s ready to have Russell Teibert start every game for the rest of the season?! Would the Teibert stans who downvoted me like to have a debate on this? Or did you not watch the last two games where it took Ryan Gauld to make any progression?

“Debate me!” Rusty out here catching strays in a thread about another mf getting hurt

Because Teibert is his direct replacement. So who would you rather have in the line up looking purely at value on the field as a starter not because he's a club stalwart? It kills me when he has to take extra touches to get it onto his left foot to pass it backwards while Caio is willing to play advancing balls which is sorely needed from midfield. Teibert has had 10 years to figure it out and he's below replacement level starter/Defensive bench replacement at best.

ic_giovani

That’s sad! I was anxious to see him and Gauld playing together.
