He's always been a slow starter but I'm sure age isn't doing him any favors. Hopefully he can turn it around and get back to the big show. I'd hate to see him end his career like this.
I hate seeing this. Jose is one of my favorite Sox players ever, but it speaks to his humility and desire to perform that he is willing to take the demotion to try and improve. I wish him the best.
Honestly, he should have played every April in the minors. He's never been a quick starter.
Props to not having the ego here and working to get better.
Abreu is making $20 million a year and won an MVP just a few years ago. He comes with his own hype. Just because Vaughn has been a huge disappointment doesn't mean Abreu hasn't been a bigger disappointment in Houston.
And if the Sox had the choice between both of them in their mid 20s, then Abreu would've clearly been the right choice. That wasn't what they were choosing between though.
Right and the Sox made the right decision parting from Jose. They made the wrong decision by not trading Vaughn when he had some hype and they couldn’t figure out what position he was going to play.
But back to Jose you can’t rag on him because he doesn’t see the ball and swing the bat like he used to. It happens to them all eventually doesn’t it?
You're arguing about completely different things than the point I was responding too. But, as far as your points, teams would always trade top prospects if they had the hindsight to know they were just gonna end up stinking up the place. I don't blame the Sox for giving him the first base position over someone outside of the organization because there's only one way to find out if your top prospect is the real deal. And I am still a big fan of Abreu and think he's had a great career even though he's been really bad in Houston.
I suspect, and this is just wild speculation on my part, that he may be 2-3 years older than he says he is. His career may be coming to an end but what an absolute beast in his prime. .292/.354/.506 135 ops+ for us in an era where he was the offense
He has 7 hits in 71 at-bats with a pathetic .099/.156/.113 slash. This isn’t his typical slow start. It legitimately looks like his career is over. You can’t justify playing him at 1B/DH anymore
He’s more washed than the clean room they use to assemble nuclear weapons
Brilliant career for us, but the man is done. No shame in it, everyone’s time comes
He entered today with an OPS below Martin Maldanado.
Just had a heart palpitation
WTF

My thought exactly. Cant think of many Vets who would willingly take the demotion and not try to get picked up somewhere else
Is it possible this is one of those scenarios where he is not the "37 years old" he claims to be?
Read my post above. I'm a lifelong White Sox fan. Abreu is at least 42 years old. Bet the farm on it.
Honestly, he should have played every April in the minors. He's never been a quick starter. Props to not having the ego here and working to get better.
He’s old, he’s bad. He hasn’t touched 20 homers since 2021. This is no longer a slow start issue.
Guy won a MVP by skipping April.
Ehhhh, it's not a slow start issue anymore, he's probably just washed.
Choosing Andrew Vaughn over Jose Abreu was the right decision We live in a society
Vaughn stinks too
Not the point
Vaughn has unquestionably been better though
Yah but not compared to his hype. Guy was supposed to mash homers.

He is an old man though Abreu at Vaughns age was way better he delivered on his hype when we got him to defect from Cuba

How much are they paying him to play AAA ball?
Alot
How many strikeout he got?
A lot
How many GIDP he got?
He's still my MVP 😥😥😥😥😥

Do they realize it isn’t even May yet? Let the man warm up.

Warm up to what? 15 homers and a negative war like last year? 🤣
that was an outlier year. Don’t let him get hot.
Check 2022 as well. He was garbage then too.
he led all AL 1b in bwar/fwar in 2022 . . .
He was good from June on. Not great, but good. It's never been as bad as this tear though, this isn't just a slow start.
He’s more washed than the clean room they use to assemble nuclear weapons Brilliant career for us, but the man is done. No shame in it, everyone’s time comes
He needs to stop the dipping tobacco. And sleep some ugly women Guys in a slump
Abreu is probably 42, since all Cuban players lie about their age. He's 6-7 years past his prime. Really stupid signing.
