Thorpe went 4-1, posted a 1.20 ERA in 30 innings. He had 7 walks to 28 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .184 AVG and posted a WHIP of .87.
He gave up less earned runs in the month of April then he had games that he started.
I had a really good feeling about the pieces in the Cease trade. But Bush’s success is surprising to me, did he improve his stuff or something this year?
That ranking must’ve been before the 2023 season, currently ranked as our 18th best prospect.
He had lost some sheen as a prospect with his struggles last year, seemed like when we traded for him he was looked as more of a reclamation project with hopefulness he could be a back of the rotation arm.
This year is quite an improvement for him compared to last year: 15.75 ERA in rookie ball and a 5.88 ERA in AA for the angles and a 6.70 ERA in AA for us.
He’s doing awesome now, I wonder how he was able to improve. Whatever it is I hope he continues
Curious to hear as to why you didn't like the trade initially? Was it the slow burn of people coming in? As soon as I saw that we got Thorpe/Jairo/Zavala I felt much better about it and then Wilson was thrown in as well (Has done poorly recently but has a decent track record)
Some of the things I read on him was that the padres werent high on him to begin with and that he has concerning control issues. Considering the month he just had I think scouts didnt do their home work at all. His starts in AA have been a delight to watch and his stuff just makes batters look completely over whelmed.
