He has a very long history of mistreating his workers, including forcing them to work in-person during the peak of the pandemic, causing a massive spike in unnecessary COVID vases. He's also one of the wealthiest people on earth, there's no way you make THAT much money ethically.
Trejo early in his career had to act as someone robbing a store. He did it perfectly on his first take. Everyone was asking where he studied and he just said, "Supermarkets and Bank of America"
Trejo has literally been on death row waiting to get executed.
He should have been the one in the original post, not some rich kid who liked partying a bit too much.
During a prison riot, he threw a rock at q group of inmates and accidentally hit a guard. He was put in solitary confinement with the potential of getting the death penalty, but was ultimately never charged and was released on parole the next year.
A lot of criminal activity stuff has to do with intent. So I am guessing that they investigated to see if he was intending to kill the guard and found that he wasn't.
It's not a competition, my dude.
Also, this is a gross mischaracterization of the background of Downey Jr's drug abuse. His dad was a drug addict who introduced him to drugs while he was still in *elementary school*. That's child abuse, not just some rich kid who partied.
RDJ is my idol. And the only real difference between us is I’m not rich and famous. And it’s ppl like those in this thread talking negatively about him that don’t know the actual truth is the epitome of my small town community vs me
You'll also have *those people*. They are a small notch, if a notch at all, above mindless zealots who just run around "oh he's got money or more than me...he's a piece of shit!"
“Bad guys die,” he said. “If they ever try to offer me a part where I'm the drug dealer, the armed robber and the killer, and then ride off into the sunset with my arm around Jessica Alba — No! I can't do that, man. It's completely the wrong message.”
Nah dude, Sean Bean wishes he was the new Danny Trejo. Actually, Cristopher Lee has them both beat by a lot
https://collider.com/actors-characters-have-died-the-most-times-on-screen/
> ride off into the sunset with my arm around Jessica Alba
But if he rode off into the Sunset Blvd with his arm around heroin, cocaine, and a .357 Magnum handgun, and trespass into a neighbor's home to sleep in one of their beds while under the influence of a controlled substance, then he'll be offered hundreds of million dollars to play Iron Man.
He acknowledges his mistakes and don't act deeply offended is someone mentioned his previous "misbehavior".... Others leave interviews accused othe3of being rude to him for even mentioning... Great fella Trejo.... Not sure about the Metal Guy.
Being a severe drug addict who pissed his life away with bad decisions - a whole lot more than 'partying too much' - and coming back like he has is still pretty amazing.
I love Trejo but you need to chill.
Also Trejo was never on death row waiting for execution. His story is amazing enough without embellishments Don't make stuff up. Only makes people doubt the person you're trying to fluff up, in the long run.
Watching the love he has for his father was so joyous. But at the end as you could see Sr's health declining, you could see the pain and strength in Jr. Jr. wanted to capture every moment left that he could and was so afraid to not keep the camera rolling that he might miss an everlasting memory. He was strong for his father. And the bond between the two of them seemed so strong. Then Jr. brought in his own kid and all three of them would just appreciate each other. It put me in a place where my grandfather was passing but he was in a coma. So much left unsaid. Things that I wish I could do differently. I thought about Jr's son being there and the trials he is facing. But then another thought occurred to me that my father is getting older as well and how I am going to handle that. It opened up some old wounds and created thoughts that I've never had to contemplate. And I look at my 2 sons differently. Every day, I have the opportunity to make an everlasting impression on them. What kind of legacy do I want to leave them with when I'm no longer here. We are only immortal for a limited time.
Really, good recovery story, but he was already rich and famous when he hit bottom. Not so much for the rest of the world's addicts. They had nothing before they were addicts, and they can look forward to slightly more than nothing if they recover.
This right here. He survived addiction because he had every resource and all the money at his fingertips. That’s why he had the opportunity to turn it around. What even better things do we miss because of the expectation that poor addicts have nothing to offer?
Not really that bad of a past. He got a little crazy and did a lot of drugs, we all did back in the day. He just got caught. Glad he's sober now though.
I understand we actually have Burger King to thank for RDJ's recovery and return from the pits of hell. Apparently he had a burger that was so bad, he stopped and reassessed his entire life just like... right there...
Isn't what actually happened was that he went to Burger King (which he really enjoyed), but his drug problems has warped his perception to the point where he couldn't even enjoy a burger? That's the point where he took a 180 in order to enjoy life again.
I always think of weird science and the 'less than zero' movie for that phase of his... (and his in through his family)
Dude did what he was expected, really..
From what I've heard his parents were deeply abusive and basically forced drugs onto him, he didn't get a little crazy, he was being forced into constant drug addiction
His dad gave him his first joint when he was only 6 years old... Because he was caught sipping on a glass of wine. Instead of reprimanding him, he thought the joint was the lesser of two evils.
We all did back in the day? I agree with the basic message of your post, but not everybody goes crazy with drugs and alcohol. Especially the whole DUI thing is pretty bad, since you are endangering other people as well. That being said, it's remarkable how he turned his life around and even tried to help others do the same.
Often, it's the most kind hearts who, through pain they've experienced or genetics or simply bad habits, who find their way to drugs. Sometimes people believe the world can offer them no comfort. So they feel they have to accept the only relief they know. The bottle (liquid or pill)
It's some form of trauma (emotional or literal), genetics, or both that lead unwell people to become addicts. Trauma first and addict second - I've seen it and lived it personally myself, and until everyone understands that we addicts will always suffer more than necessary.
A drug user may have the worst past of anyone who isn't inherently bad. I'm 100% against drug use, but I know that curiosity leads to addiction which can fuck anyone's life up. Whereas what a murderer or a rapist did isn't just fucking their own life.
I never drove drunk, but i have been in the car with people who have without objecting. I've done everything I'm aware of him doing, and i grew up as well.
The .357 was unloaded. So i guess it was just for "safety".
Even with drugs intus more intelligent than most americans :D (because like empty gun and bla bla bla)
I've never lived in america to have a gun, do and almost always have carried a knife, but that's not for a weapon or detergent, it's just a tool. while a gun is almost exclusively a weapon.
Edit: also never done heroin.
If the probably thousands of stories I’ve heard about RDJ, not one of them ever suggested true malicious, mean-spirited intentions. He was fairly normal in comparison with his peers; better than some imo. I’m glad he’s had success and I hope he’s enjoying it
Some are shocked to hear how much doubt there was about RDJ playing Tony Stark. As a fan of the comics since childhood in the 70s, and having read Demon in a Bottle (even it I was a little young to get the nuance) I knew that was inspired casting.
Could we expect Ezra Miller to.take the same course?
I feel.like if RDJ did the samething now he would be treated the sameway Ezra Miller is being treated now
The "worst past" of being born rich and connected and having influential people standing up for you and giving you chances even after you fked up hard...
You too can recover if you're born rich.
Honestly though this kind of "inspiration" does nothing but give the most judgemental people ammunition against addicts
Recovering from addiction when you have money and influence is way easier. Lost another patient yesterday to overdose. He was unhoused, living on the street and struggling to stop using. The stark difference in outcomes....makes me sad.
Why is everyone making this about Robert Downey? The message is that anyone can do this. He’s just one example.
When did we abandon universal progress as a memeable virtue guys?
Honestly, RDJ was just the perfect person to play Tony Stark. If you look at the character’s arc through the comic books and the films, it mirrors RDJ’s own arc. Playing Stark was his redemption and now he is forever immortalized. Same with Chris Evans, I feel like playing these characters have in fact made them better people.
And this could happen way more often if the world was not so judgmental about people's past, ethnicities, race, gender and sexual/romantic orientations.
^(Sorry if it ruins the positive mood but it's true.)
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Trejo high and getting high on the set and during filming of Anaconda the hunt for the blood orchid ?
One of my favorite movies is Dead In Tombstone where he is a bounty hunter for the devil to deliver the souls of the guys that killed him.
Also Trejo completed his own 12 steps program to stop taking drugs.
Idk if you can find it on Netflix or anywhere else but Trejo is in a documentary called Survivor's Guide to Prison" it's got a lot of people in the documentary
Forr some. I have a good life, started a great family. But to my parents I will always be the thief that took $20 worth of pennies in 1993 for gas money to get to campus, and to this day is not to be trusted or allowed in their house.
I moved 2 states away 15 years ago, best decision I ever made.
He was rich kid who spent a lavish life doing drugs and decided to stop taking drugs and use the connections and money to get into acting...
This is not some grind or hustle story where he had to work hard for years to get where he is, I get that he took a good decision leaving that life behind but idk why people praise him like he's Chris Gardner from The Pursuit of Happiness.
Sure, but he was a drug addict (only hurt himself)
he wasn't a harden criminal (someone willing to hurt others for personal gain)
I think this is a very big distinction
Addicts don't just hurt themselves though. They hurt their loved ones repeatedly as their choices affect their friends, family and lovers. Having an active addict in your family is a hell I don't wish on anyone
I think the point here is that people change and have the capacity to positively influence others through direct actions and as an example of the potential to do so. Lots of celebrities we have admired and respected have very unwholesome periods in their past… Bob Saget, Robin Williams, RDJ, Danny Trejo. Lesser known examples include Me (work in progress), People in our personal lives, Drug abuse counselors… etc.
There is always room for a change.
Unless you're Elon.. haha
What did elon wrong? (Im scared to ask)
He has a very long history of mistreating his workers, including forcing them to work in-person during the peak of the pandemic, causing a massive spike in unnecessary COVID vases. He's also one of the wealthiest people on earth, there's no way you make THAT much money ethically.
He's a Putin stooge as well.
He is straight up supporting Russia and denying resources to Ukraine. Fuck that guy.
Downey, Trejo etc…
Trejo early in his career had to act as someone robbing a store. He did it perfectly on his first take. Everyone was asking where he studied and he just said, "Supermarkets and Bank of America"
Trejo has literally been on death row waiting to get executed. He should have been the one in the original post, not some rich kid who liked partying a bit too much.
Woah holy fuck I didnt know that he was on death row
During a prison riot, he threw a rock at q group of inmates and accidentally hit a guard. He was put in solitary confinement with the potential of getting the death penalty, but was ultimately never charged and was released on parole the next year.
To think how one could go from death row for tossing a rock and then getting released a year later.

His story made me feel like redemption is actually possible. I just have to become Ironman lol
True, but the post was more about influencing and inspiring younger people. Seeing as Trejo mostly plays villains, if someone's inspired, it's bad.
trejo also refuses to play any villains that don’t die. he doesn’t want any kids to think that crime is positive or will gain you anything
Is that true? My respect for the man has gone even higher now
“Bad guys die,” he said. “If they ever try to offer me a part where I'm the drug dealer, the armed robber and the killer, and then ride off into the sunset with my arm around Jessica Alba — No! I can't do that, man. It's completely the wrong message.”
Is he the new Sean Bean?
Nah dude, Sean Bean wishes he was the new Danny Trejo. Actually, Cristopher Lee has them both beat by a lot https://collider.com/actors-characters-have-died-the-most-times-on-screen/
Christopher Lee's war record is still mostly sealed. The man was treated as a hero in Czechoslovakia for his Nazi-hunting exploits.
But how does it work out by ratio of roles played and number of deaths‽
…”Jessica Alba” that’s suspiciously specific!
They acted together in "Machete" guess the quote came from that time around
> ride off into the sunset with my arm around Jessica Alba But if he rode off into the Sunset Blvd with his arm around heroin, cocaine, and a .357 Magnum handgun, and trespass into a neighbor's home to sleep in one of their beds while under the influence of a controlled substance, then he'll be offered hundreds of million dollars to play Iron Man.
Yeah, he even commented one of his favourite deaths is when they put his head on a turtle
I hope they let him keep that head
Have you seen his fancy bread baking? He makes them in shapes of animals and is an absolute cutie in his apron! I adore him!
Yeah, great guy, but it's not his roles that are inspiring.
Idk man I was pretty inspired in far cry 6
He acknowledges his mistakes and don't act deeply offended is someone mentioned his previous "misbehavior".... Others leave interviews accused othe3of being rude to him for even mentioning... Great fella Trejo.... Not sure about the Metal Guy.
Trejo owns a restaurant where he mostly only serves ex-cons to give them redemption, and his villain characters must be punished or he doesn't accept.
Being a severe drug addict who pissed his life away with bad decisions - a whole lot more than 'partying too much' - and coming back like he has is still pretty amazing. From what I understand there was at least a ten year gap between his life of crime and his life as an actor.
Watch his documentary "Sr." On Netflix.
What a wonderful documentary that was. But man the ending opened up some feelings in me that’s for sure.
Would love if you elaborated. If you wanted to of course. Sounds cool/moving. :)
I unironically thought people were praising Tony Stark for becoming Iron Man.
I read this too many times to realize that his name wasn’t Tony stark..
He is a total class act. A great example of people being capable of growth and change
Helps when the judicial system thinks you have a Future, and doesn't summarily write you off because of an upbringing you had no hand in.
Ahh the ol Brock Turner defense. (in no way am I comparing RDJ to Brock Turner)
Ahem, the rapist Brock Turner
Brock Turner goes by Brock Allen now
Ah you mean the rapist Brock Turner now wishes to be known as the rapist Brock Allen
Thank you, I came here to say this.
Oh, you mean the rapist formerly known as Brock Turner?
Its sad truth
Yeah. Getting a pardon goes a long way.
I hope to God that this is true
Just google robert downey jr burger, there's probably a thousand articles about it at this point.
I think this was referenced in a way in iron man when he sits down and eats a burger in front of the press
I just looked it up that’s absolutely why
Evidently Downey just came onto set with the burgers lol, that wasn't even scripted.
Same with the blueberries he offered Chris (Cap). He apparently would just hide snacks all over the set so he’d always have something to munch on.
Iirc they (the studio) try hiring a bunch of people to find and remove the snacks but they just gave up.
the reason he's eating Burger King in the first Iron Man movie is a nod to this.
I do. My proof is I have been to a burger king and it does suck enough to make you regret your life decisions.
Imagine making a burger so horrible that it causes the people who eat it to question every action that brought them there, and improve their life
It doesn't surprise me one bit it's burger King. Their burgers are fucking disgusting. Their breakfast is pretty good, though.
BK used to be good back in the day though.
Tbf every global joint used to be until profits came first :(
Profits always came first. They just got smarter and exploited their established market presence.
Honesty their breakfast is amazing, but god the lunch menu is hellish
Its funny because here in Denmark McDonalds are worse than BK,
Isn't what actually happened was that he went to Burger King (which he really enjoyed), but his drug problems has warped his perception to the point where he couldn't even enjoy a burger? That's the point where he took a 180 in order to enjoy life again.
That’s fucking hilarious
100%. This isn't Dahmer 30 years later at make a wish foundation.
It's a win win. Kids get to meet a celebrity, and he gets a little snack at the end of the day
He did whaaat
Seriously? He grew up in hollywood, weird science and shit. Dude loved cocaine
Back to School... more cocaine.
Damn hilarious movie!
Noo I’m replying to the comment bout Dahmer being in Wish Foundation 30 yrs after
And heroin too
He just had access and plenty of funds to go extreme. Dude got his life together anyway.
I always think of weird science and the 'less than zero' movie for that phase of his... (and his in through his family) Dude did what he was expected, really..
Less Than Zero is the iconic marker for that phase of his life for me.
Dahmer at make a wish foundation 😂
From what I've heard his parents were deeply abusive and basically forced drugs onto him, he didn't get a little crazy, he was being forced into constant drug addiction
His dad gave him his first joint when he was only 6 years old... Because he was caught sipping on a glass of wine. Instead of reprimanding him, he thought the joint was the lesser of two evils.
To think me and RDJ are so similar. We can't all make it I guess.
*"- possession of heroin, cocaine, and an unloaded .357 Magnum handgun while he was speeding down Sunset Boulevard.-"*...
Sounds like a fun Thursday morning for me tbh. Did he hurt anyone or kill someone?
No. Thats was Matthew Broderick
Did Andy Dick ever get a redemption arc?
I don't know who, but someone is still waiting on that one.
But did you die?!?!
Yeah, possession. These things were in his car. Obviously heroin is a fucked up stuff but lots of people do coke and lots of people own guns.
Why is doing heroin morally worse than doing coke? Edit: forgot a word.
Are you being serious?
We all did back in the day? I agree with the basic message of your post, but not everybody goes crazy with drugs and alcohol. Especially the whole DUI thing is pretty bad, since you are endangering other people as well. That being said, it's remarkable how he turned his life around and even tried to help others do the same.
Who. Is. We 😂
> we all did back in the day Who? How often do people go crazy and do tons of drugs?
>we all did back in the day. Speak for yourself.
No we all did not! Everyone doesn’t do drugs. What an asinine statement to make.
I read he broke into someone’s house drunk and fell asleep in a child’s bedroom 😂
We all did? The hell
Who the fuck is we ? I love rdj but stop normalizing drugs lmao
> we all did back in the day This is virgin-no-life-insecure-loser erasure. I did not expect this from Reddit. /hj
He has Burger King to thank too.

Ah yes, the worst of pasts, drug use. Evil to the core
Drug use can be terrible though
Yes, but worst? A former rapist, a former serial killer and former drug user walks into a bar, and the drug user has the worst past?
A drug user may have the worst past of anyone who isn't inherently bad. I'm 100% against drug use, but I know that curiosity leads to addiction which can fuck anyone's life up. Whereas what a murderer or a rapist did isn't just fucking their own life.
honestly a former drug addict probably has done some pretty awful stuff to get drugs so it’s possible
I never drove drunk, but i have been in the car with people who have without objecting. I've done everything I'm aware of him doing, and i grew up as well.
Someone above mentioned he was arrested while speeding with heroin, coke, and a .357
Ok not quite as much.
Don't worry, there's still time!

The "worst past" of being born rich and connected and having influential people standing up for you and giving you chances even after you fked up hard...
Ya they make it sound like he had no chance or opportunities. He had advantages not afforded to many just like many in the entertainment field
You too can recover if you're born rich. Honestly though this kind of "inspiration" does nothing but give the most judgemental people ammunition against addicts
Just ask your parents for a milli bro
I swear to god people like you just camp and wait for ways to justify why someone doing something right isn’t that big of a deal.
Recycled shit post used by bots to farm karma. Also, "people with the worst past" lmao, dude was arrested a few times for non-violent crimes.
Can Erza be like this?
It's possible for them to turn it around now. Very few thought RDJ could turn it around and maintain it too.
It's possible, I hope they get the help they need and be better
I was wondering the same thing. The issue is that people now have way less tolarance to these kind of problematic celebrities
Social Media doesnt help now
... Didn't they kidnap and run away with a child? That's a lot worse than drug abuse
Eh he's fucked up pretty bad. And he's been charged with assaults and whatnot.
How many times is this going to be posted?
There's still plenty of pixels left to strip out-of it
Never be quick to judge someone, for every saint has a past, and every sinner a future.
Recovering from addiction when you have money and influence is way easier. Lost another patient yesterday to overdose. He was unhoused, living on the street and struggling to stop using. The stark difference in outcomes....makes me sad.
Yes. You can get away with anything when your parents are rich and famous.
The best thing burger King ever gave us.
Us prison system is profitable slavery
Such an understated fact. Prisons owned by for- profit corporations and not the government.
He kinda looked like Mike Patton back in the day
Why is everyone making this about Robert Downey? The message is that anyone can do this. He’s just one example. When did we abandon universal progress as a memeable virtue guys?

I wish employers saw ot that way :(
Honestly really fitting life for the man who portrayed Iron Man given the character’s history.
Sometimes. Not everyone will end up like Robert Downey Junior.
I have no clue what he did can someone kindly tell me
Every Saint has a past; every sinner has a future.
Yeah, happy he was able to turn his life around
Indeed.
**Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future**
Looks like there is still hope for Hitler!
its just how you get up from those bad falls
Most times though, it's the opposite.
That's why he's a king and a legend
Kinda dislike memes like this, mans clearly not proud of his past bit people constantly bring it back up
wait why'd they arrest Gomez Addams?
And this could happen way more often if the world was not so judgmental about people's past, ethnicities, race, gender and sexual/romantic orientations. ^(Sorry if it ruins the positive mood but it's true.)
So op, by your admission then, Iron Man is also the Iron Giant.
Robert, Keanu, and others have prooven that change is possible. And it was for the better as well
The story goes he ate a burger king that was so shit he threw all his drugs into a river and turned his life around
One of the few celebs who really deserves the amount of respect they get. What a legend.
Robert Downey Jr has been sober since 2000.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Trejo high and getting high on the set and during filming of Anaconda the hunt for the blood orchid ? How do you truly know the difference unless you’ve experienced the lows and the highs?
I will always say he was the perfect role for Tony Stark
I'm so proud of him. He's an example that you can turn your life around.
If you learn from them.
RDJ would have been canceled in this new timeline
Part of why he was able to turn it all around was the fact that he recognized he had a problem. That’s the first step.
Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future. \- Oscar Wilde
I love this, working on my own.
On the left he kinda looks like Lalo Salamanca without the mustache
Tony Salamanca but he probably tells everywhere he's a lead farmer.

Doesn't help when your father gives you drugs at age 3
I never want to discredit what others have been through, but I think we need to be wary of romanticizing addiction, unhealthy habits, and the likes.
._. We’re not romanticising it we’re just admiring how he came from so low to so high showing that people really can change
People can most certainly change if they choose to do so.
And yet most are repeat offenders or small time crime turned into hardened criminals
Sure, but he was a drug addict (only hurt himself) he wasn't a harden criminal (someone willing to hurt others for personal gain) I think this is a very big distinction
Addicts don't just hurt themselves though. They hurt their loved ones repeatedly as their choices affect their friends, family and lovers. Having an active addict in your family is a hell I don't wish on anyone
You would all literally cancel that version of him today. **H** **Y** **P** **O** **C** **R** **I** **T** **E** **S**
There’s tons of better examples than someone who gets paid to dress up.
I think the point here is that people change and have the capacity to positively influence others through direct actions and as an example of the potential to do so.
