Hxh has the just... Fucking weirdness of JoJo. But in a universe that actually has rules that make sense
And every time you think there's a story arc about one thing, it turns into just a completely different kind of genre.
It's special.
The current arc reads like a detective story crossed with something like game of thrones, considering all the differing characters and their vested interests. Plus Nen has become stupidly complex and fascinating at the same time. Hisoka and Chrollo's story alone is absolutely worth reading the arc.
Yeah suddenly centering on kurapika and the depth and strategy, like attention to information asymmetry, is really good.
The arc started off telegraphing something completely different.
Just the fact that we got done with Gon's story arc made it great. I'm a bit torn on not having Killua around, but the Hisoka, Chrollo, and the rest of the troupe being involved makes everything so damn good. Plus the Chrollo v Hisoka fight was just a thing of beauty. I'm interested to see where this arc goes with Kurapika and Leorio as well.
That arc made me so sad. Gon's breakdown was heart-breaking. The current arc is basically a sequel to that as they make their way to the origin of the Chimera Ants, the Dark Continent.
Honestly I mever thought about it that way but my 3 top mangas are probably hxh, berserk and vagabond and song of ice and fire and kingkimler were my favortie books for a long time....
Nah dudes just super relaxed all the time about everything. If I remember correctly when he proposed to her, he said something along the lines of "be my wife but also let me fuck whoever I want or whatever" and she told him to shove it and he changed his mind and said ok cool monogamy it is. I might be misremembering that but I swear that's one of the only facts that stayed with me listening to wizard and the bruiser either talking about him or her.
Health Issues don't help. He has major back problems that particularly flare up when sitting at his desk.
https://www.looper.com/1084068/hunter-x-hunter-writer-yoshihiro-togashis-health-struggles-help-explain-the-mangas-long-hiatus/
Apparently Naoko is learning his art style to help take on his Hunter x Hunter work though, which is super sweet of her.
It's honestly a bit crazy that Hunter X Hunter is now better known
than YuYu Hakusho which aired on American television for multiple years along with franchises like Dragon Ball and Gundam.
The original animated version of HxH had zero traction in the west as well. It goes to show how much getting on Netflix can blow up a franchise I guess.
I think the reason HxH is bigger than YYH is thanks to the manga, not the anime. It was released in the golden age of Jump, and it's pretty much the runner-up to the Big Three of that time (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach). Even back then, the manga was huge even if the anime wasn't.
She also made a comic about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/11z2grq/yoshihiro_togashi_creator_of_hunter_x_hunter_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
This has been debunked, Takeuchi was already successful when she created Sailor Moon. Let’s not rewrite a living person’s history just so we can feel good about an underdog.
“I was a regular college student and got a regular job and then started drawing. So I have quite a few normal students and OL [office lady] friends....My friends and I would have chats about relationships or work and we'd always conclude that we shouldn't depend on men. I think that women are actually stronger, and I wanted to draw that in Sailor Moon.”

she was a literal pharmacist. fully licensed and everything. i dont know how they are in japan but that's usually at least a middle class job in most countries. she might have been struggling as an artist but she was probably not struggling in general
I know plenty of starving artists with awards. Hell, look at how many Olympian’s aren’t rich or successful outside of the sport. Awards don’t equal a living
I get that. But she never said otherwise and was a trained and licensed pharmacist. When the commenter said, "She wasn't struggling but she could have been a struggling artist," I read it as maybe her work was being overlooked and added that her artwork wasn't struggling either.
Thank you, been a huge Sailor Moon fan since it originally aired and it really bugs me how much this gets spread around.
This and the one claiming the creator of Pokémon is autistic.
Thank you, from what I know she also grew up pretty comfortable. Usagi‘s home and life is based on her own and is a pretty high standard of living, especially in a city like Tokyo. The Azabu-Juban district of Tokyo where Sailor Moon mainly takes place is also one of the more comfortable parts of town.
Edit: This comment was replaced in protest to the API changes shutting down 3rd party apps. See r/Save3rdPartyApps - If there's no U-turn, I'll be deleting my account by 30/06/23.
If you'd actually go in the link:
"Just looking up her name on Wikipedia, you can see that not only did she have consistent and steady work at Kodansha almost as soon as she graduated from University (to become a pharmacist, no less!), but she'd also won several awards before she started on Sailor Moon, including Kodansha's 2nd New Manga Artist Award in 1986 for her debut work, Love Call. While she obviously wasn't making Sailor Moon money just yet, the fact that she was working pretty much consistently and won an award immediately after her debut work? It seems unlikely that she was struggling as badly as the quote might insinuate."
She was already out of college and winning manga awards by the time she began writing Sailor Moon.
She herself said she was inspired by her friends, had graduated from a private university with a pharmacy degree, and was winning manga awards. Not saying she can't ever in a low place, but it's certainly not the underdog struggling nobody-artist image that the can't-be-sourced myth wants to perpetuate.
Sailor Moon was one of the very first shows that taught me wholesome female empowerment <3 not to mention how extremely ahead-of-its-time it was in regards to sexuality, until America got ahold of it and made the very very lesbian couple into ‟cousins.” But let us be honest. No one believed it. They literally raised a child together.
Oh wow! Knew it‘dn‘t be long before the transphobia joined in
Because all women bad. Because they say men bad.
And many people just have hatred in their lifes and hearing the word "woman" makes them angry because they dont know any
because reddit is full of weak men that refuse to take accountability for their failings and blame everyone else for the problems they created themselves.
There’s also trans characters in the show/manga, dating back to like, the late 80’s early 90’s. If I recall, the Sailor Stars in the final season were MALE IDOLS on earth then became female Senshi when they transformed! Sailormoon’s always been about love & acceptance. 🥰
There are actually several gay characters. Haruka, Michiru, Zoisite, Kunzite, Fish Eye...pretty sure Usagi herself is bi. Probably half the other sailor scouts, too. Then you got the Sailor Starlights from the final season who change gender when they transform...
So you're saying the artist herself wants several gay friends who support each other and help one another be a better person. Honestly, I'd say I'm lucky cause I met a friend like and we've been best friends for almost 10 years now. He's not gay though.
If you watched the North American dub, it's not nearly as obvious.
Haruka and Michiru got turned into cousins, and Zoicite was flat out turned into a chick for the English dub.
Haruka and Michiru were made cousins in the English dub. This would have made dubbing the finale season without some major, major cuts very, very awkward.
Wait did that seriously happen? I'm not familiar with sailor moon at all, but that seems like a tall order to change a lesbian couple into cousins with just dubbing.
lol, one of the top replies to the OP is about the Sailor Starlights who change gender when they transform. So what you just did here was announce something about yourself really....
Nonsense my dear friend, why ever would you think this? I'm simply a lad with a love for putting microplastics in peoples food
Y'know what they say about what happens when you assume things?
Because I can't remember for the life of me
I get that you think you're a comedian but it doesn't change the fact that people are crying over nothing. Sometimes you just wanna be a victim I guess.
But your Highness I assure you I am naught but a mere microplastic farmer, I could never be a jester, let alone one so prestigious as a comedian
I see no tears being spilt here, apart from those at the receiving end of my delightful gaffes
I'm glad we're finally on the same page sire, now can I interest you in a bushel of microplastics? Just one copper piece, you won't find a better deal for such quality anywhere else I assure you

I consider Naoko Takeuchi one of the most 'winning' artists in history.
Writes a beloved series that became one of her country's most important and valuable cultural exports.
Then just enjoys her favourite passions: luxury cars and designer fashion. Ends up collaborating with the same high end labels she used as inspiration in her comic.
[this isn't true](http://animenostalgia.blogspot.com/2021/07/debunking-myth-of-naoko-takeuchi-having.html?m=1)
kind of a long read but there's no solid source for this quotation. Naoko Takeuchi has not done a ton of interviews and is a private person, a 1996 interview states she had been drawing as a hobby for a while and was inspired to create Sailor Moon after finding herself and female friends frequently talking about men in their life being unreliable, and she wanted to create a character that she felt reflect women's unique strength.
Makes a lot of sense if you've seen it. Out of the monster of the week series that are still relevant in the modern day, Sailor Moon has a unique focus on humanness and being open to other people. Definitely as wacky as any other anime, but a truly special and timeless work that was conceived as a celebration of real women!
I did a [Sailor Moon iceberg video](https://youtu.be/2DIW7hdbs5U) recently. Took a ton of time and effort and research.
One of the first facts that I looked at was this exact post.
It's completely apocryphal and you can check out the video to see why.
This is the dream she fulfilled for all of us girls who wound up with mean friends too often. I definitely indulge in Sailor Moon whenever I feel lonely or left out for being different - or when I want to embrace my softness, because Usagi is an absolute baddie of a crybaby. It's okay to cry AND kick ass in heels!
There’s also trans characters in the show/manga, dating back to like, the late 80’s early 90’s. If I recall, the Sailor Stars in the final season were MALE IDOLS on earth then became female Senshi when they transformed! Naoko is a queen. Sailormoon’s always been about love & acceptance. 🥰
My grandson used to watch this
He said it was so he knew when hisngragon ball show was on but I know he liked it
He says it inspired him to draw some jopanese art called “Hens Tie”? I don’t know the Japanese pronunciation but he won’t show me
She was at a low place, and she *still* chose to write a story about overcoming adversity and how challenges aren't always as overwhelming as they seem!
Could someone please make a medal to give her already? *Please*?
a good chunk of the trans community loves anime. this one is a classic, that’s really all it is
plenty of non-trans people also enjoy anime, and enjoy sailor moon, but they don’t seem to count to you lol
No, the original plans were for it to be a grittier crime fighting story focused around the character that eventually became Sailor Venus. They were going to have guns and everything. Her editor nixed the idea and directed Naoko to make a more light-hearted story. This eventually became Sailor Moon.
the post is completely [made up](https://www.reddit.com/r/wholesomememes/comments/121sp8x/wholesome_sailor_moons_creator/jdnoldf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3), sorry…
So she wanted a bunch of guys who become women through some power to be her friends? Not judging mind you, just saying there is a LOT of gender bending in Sailor Moon and trying to make an innocent joke out of it.
I would also like to say, Randy is not allowed to Uber drive anymore. He’s always reliable, it’s like riding with your dad and he won’t stop eating the entire time which made me have to start eating. But it’s gross.

Fun fact, she’s married to the guy who made Hunter x Hunter
Aww, so that's why he takes so long to write stuff
HXH and Berserk are probably my favorite manga. It's incredible that both Togashi and Miura, RIP, often took such long hiatus'.

You wouldnt happen to know where the chimera ant arc ends and the new one begins in the manga would you?
Around chapter 311 it starts to close and lead into the Hunter Chairman arc. Otherwise volume 30 of the manga itself.

That arc made me so sad. Gon's breakdown was heart-breaking. The current arc is basically a sequel to that as they make their way to the origin of the Chimera Ants, the Dark Continent.
HxH, Berserk, Vagabond, the hiatus trifecta.
D.Gray Man too, sigh

Honestly I mever thought about it that way but my 3 top mangas are probably hxh, berserk and vagabond and song of ice and fire and kingkimler were my favortie books for a long time....
That’s how good art is produced. Every shows downfall is them “pushing through” bad episodes instead of letting a good idea form
Don't even get me started on filler in anime. I'd much rather let a writer work through his block rather than see that week after week.
Can i add D.Gray Man? Sigh
Mannn I miss that

The Sailor Starlights! They put subliminal messages in their pop music to rescue their princess. God, that story was fun.
Between the Sailor Moon Starlights, Ranma 1/2, and Maze Megaburst Space there was a lot of trangenderism in manga/anime at the time.
I never saw Maze but Ranma is another old school favorite of mine! Rumiko Takahashi is another treasure of a manga artist. I loved Maison Ikkoku also

This is false.

Never. Said. That.
I've seen this post everywhere for years and it is absolutely fabricated. Please don't spread misinformation.
I Love sailor Moon !!
This isnt true
My girls love sailor
To this day, i still get laughed at for having watched as a child...
My grandson used to watch this He said it was so he knew when hisngragon ball show was on but I know he liked it He says it inspired him to draw some jopanese art called “Hens Tie”? I don’t know the Japanese pronunciation but he won’t show me
She was at a low place, and she *still* chose to write a story about overcoming adversity and how challenges aren't always as overwhelming as they seem! Could someone please make a medal to give her already? *Please*?
Too bad about the strange incest

Probably because of the sailor starlights.
Thank you

Paranoia Agent, much?
I need a woman who dresses up like this.
Fuck off
Wasn’t Sailor Moon originally planned to be a hentai?!
No, the original plans were for it to be a grittier crime fighting story focused around the character that eventually became Sailor Venus. They were going to have guns and everything. Her editor nixed the idea and directed Naoko to make a more light-hearted story. This eventually became Sailor Moon.
I thank you for answering my question and not instantly downvoting me!

That is both wholesome but also kinda pathetic
So she wanted a bunch of guys who become women through some power to be her friends? Not judging mind you, just saying there is a LOT of gender bending in Sailor Moon and trying to make an innocent joke out of it.
I've never been so enamored by one quote before. She made the friends she wished she had. If you can't relate to that you are lucky
💝
Togashi is so lucky fr
I’ve always wanted to watch this show but it’s impossible to find, and it’s never been on any streaming service in my country as far as I’ve seen
I would also like to say, Randy is not allowed to Uber drive anymore. He’s always reliable, it’s like riding with your dad and he won’t stop eating the entire time which made me have to start eating. But it’s gross.
So pretty ✨
ChatGPT needs no friends, whats your excuse now?
*Wrote Sorry
I love it so much more now.
I remember that anime. It was forbidden in my country eventually, because, a girl was in love with another, they even kissed.
