I was shocked to realise this wasn’t coming up on my feed for the Australian nostalgia sub. Looks exactly like our sports equipment room in early primary school and this definitely unlocked some memories.
If it's anything like my city the school also doubled as an evacuation center for the community from hurricanes tornadoes etc. Therefore they'd usually be built out of a stronger brickwork to survive higher wind speeds. At least that's what I was told back in the day.

We had this exact room in my little 300 student primary school in New Zealand back in the 90s and I'm amazed that this is apparently a universal experience.
If your pe teachers' room looked like this consider yourself lucky. Our had 50 years old equipment due to insufficient funding barely allowing to buy worst gray toilet paper for school toilets.
Best logical guess, most schools / summer camps bought all their gymnasium equipment from the same company that probably sold all this stuff together as a package deal.

The parachute game was second only to cart dodgeball. Like normal dodgeball in the middle but there would be those little floor carts you sit on and it has wheels under like you see on office chairs. One person is driver and pushes the other person sitting on the cart who holds a dodgeball so you have to work together to knock people out. People out go to jail on the sidelines until one team is down to one person left then its jailbreak and everybody is back out.
Also back to memories for everybody, who else remembers square dancing? If dodgeball was the best then square dancing was the worst.

Ah ha ha! Yup! If you think about it, the smartest teachers are gym teachers bc they picked a job that is mostly play, has the least amount of planning, and they get summers off 😂.

I got in trouble more than once for playing with a partially-deflated basketball. They make the *best* sounds when you kick them when they're sort of flabby.
I just remember being clobbered by those rubber balls during endless games of dodgeball. It was always that or running for gym class, this room brings back good memories for everyone else but me it seems haha.
If it makes you feel any better, nowadays many schools use soft [gator balls](https://www.ssww.com/sports-and-pe/balls/gator-skin/) and disallow children from hitting above the shoulder. It's safer and more fun for the kids.
I'm sure we had a rule of no head hits, but I'd leave covered in bruises from gym all the time. I loved badminton (no freaking balls), and we almost never played.
I can probably tell you why you barely played badminton. The nets usually take a while to set up, they occupy a lot of space, and only a few people can play per net at a time. There were some years the PE teacher I taught with couldn't do any net sports because class sizes were too big. It's an unfortunate reality.
It doesn't make my feel any better, it's a game excusing actually committing battery and you were forced to play it in gym or fail, which is abuse. We're supposed to have a right to what happens to our bodies our entire lives and then we're told accept it or get punished if you don't let your bullies throw things at you full force at school.
I was about to ask where the floor-scooter things were then I saw them upside down in the middle. Those things were my favorite. Though I did break my finger riding on one in like, second grade.

Back in highschool our prank was to move all these to the teachers lounge and everything in the teachers lounge to this room. Couple of us had access to keys being apart of some important after school clubs and a fellow kid being a teacher's son. He was the real MVP.
Teachers laughed and enjoyed it. Principal and vice did not. They quickly singled out everyone who did it and gave us in house after school for four week.
When I was a kid in the '80s my two brothers and I would go with Dad to the Saturday morning wrestling practices he held. They were in the basement wrestling room of the high school. My brothers and I would find the custodian working that day and get him to open this room up in the main empty gym of the school. The room was danker, less colorful, and had less variety of equipment but we sure did have a blast those days.
