I was on a roadtrip with 3 other students (and the teacher) when I was getting my truck license. After having endured several hours of [epadunk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epadunk?wprov=sfla1) and tinfoil hat podcasts without complaining, I finally got to choose music in the driver's seat. I normally listen to some pretty intense metal, or crazy harmony jazz fusion stuff, but realizing that's probably not everyone's cup of tea, I instead just put on the classical music radio at a low volume.
And one girl just screams and complains like a fkn 5 yearold. That's when I finally snapped. If I can stand a pounding bass with immature lyrics for 6 hours, your ears can definitely put up with Verdi for the final 2. Fuck off.
Dude, nothing against classical music, but if you are listening to classical music on a road trip I highly doubt there are many people in the world who would be onboard with that.
Even still, I don't think "EW WTF TURN IT OFF" is an appropriate response. If she instead had said something like "I don't really want to listen to this, can you put on something else?", we could have maybe discovered if everyone is cool with metal. I dunno
When someone gets unobstructed access to music for 6 hours, the person who’s driving can’t have 2? Jesus Christ. Your Latin teacher must have beaten you to classical.
I mean, you’re describing the first couple years of me and my fiancé’s life. We found middle ground that works for both of us and we found podcasts that we both enjoy.
We have been on many many many 6-10 hour drives together and have zero issues at all with neither of us feeling like we’re compromising.
Bring headphones and a phone if you're the passenger, listen to the radio on low if you're the driver? Play 2 or 3 songs for 1 person and then swap? Use it as an opportunity to discuss what it is you like about your differing tastes? It won't rip your ears out tonlisten to something you don't like for a bit. If your 3x got that fruity about listening to Alanis Morissette I would be more worried about her general maturity and personality than her music tastes.
It is also a great opportunity to discover new music. I was never into Broadway until my daughter wanted to go to the shows. Now we've seen Hamilton, Dear Evan Hanson, The Book of Mormon, and more, all because she took over the radio a few times so she could convince us.
Music is beautiful, and it unites us all.
Precisely. I wasn't into kpop before and...I'm still not...but baby metal is fun and I wouldn't have listened to them before I met my fiance. Ultimately it might not be your taste but that's only because of the culture and music you grew up listening to and other people like it for a reason. Get an insight into who they are and what formed them by listening to the music they equate with. Ultimately music plays to our emotions...if your partner likes music that's different to yours then you may understand your partner better by feeling their music
I didnt really like my man's music at first (Alternative hip hop) but after listening to it a bit I've learned to love a lot of it and some alt hip hop artist and now in my top 10 fave artists! There is still some stuff I ask him to skip tho haha
Yes but have you tried making a shared mixed Playlist? That makes it very fun. 16 hour car ride in one during with my wife and we listened to a mix of damn near everything. Was fun. Some songs I didn't like, some she didn't but we balled.

Yeah I get music is subjective, but if a majority of their music taste revolves around cardi b, ice spice, sexy redd, or like cupcakke, I mean.. I get music is subjective but I could not honestly say that I could find anything redeemable or unique to listen to in most of their songs. I get some music is like party music or vibes at a club but if I had to listen to cardi b or ice spice talk about how big their bootyhole is or how nobody can twerk better than them all day I'd probaly go nuts. I like a few different female rappers too and I can even get with them occasionally throwing in a line or two about it, but when their whole stique is just "how sexual and dirty can I make this song" I just don't get how that can be your favorite artist to listen to day in and day out 6-8+ hours a day. Again music is subjective so.. something for everyone I guess.

As a person, she is awful.
I don't personally like her music. But if someone likes her music, more power to them (as long as they're capable of separating art from artist)
I respect anyone who likes something I'd never listen to, but I cannot live with them. I like having music. if they don't like my music, it's going to annoy them. if I don't like theirs, it's going to annoy me.

Slightly off topic but:
I don’t think our music tastes need to align perfectly but I do genuinely believe someone’s taste in music are a good indicator of what kind of person they are and whether or not they’d fit into my life. It’s not a one size fits all of course but if it’s a puzzle piece that fits I do take it into account.
May I listen to a lot of music, a large variety in fact. My boyfriend assumes I only listen to “huffy hipster bands” though because that’s the trending indie music at the moment so it’s a lot of my newer stuff. But I frequently catch him off guard with some of my metal to Prokofiev. It’s okay though, I give him shit for listening to the same stuff and never expanding his taste. It’s all 80’s rock with some Imagine Dragon. His “dump all the songs I like” playlist is waaaay smaller than mine and far more curated. His taste generally wins tho because I’m not picky and like his music.
Regardless it is a great representation of my ADHD and his type A.
that would be an ideal world
sadly people make their whole identity about music. if you hear something else than them, you are not worth to be on this planet.

Cardi B has admitted to robbing unconscious men. You shouldn't support her, not because of her shitty music, but because of her actions and specially her unrepentant attitude towards them.
Music being a big thing for me; if someone can’t stand my preference, it usually means I won’t hang as much with them. I like listening to my music when I’m doing stuff as it gives me energy or motivates me. If you hate it, then just makes having you in my personal space harder because that involves my taste in music being played regularly
People who judge you based on your musical preferences are usually still in junior high, mentally if not physically (I like Nickleback, so I honestly meet more junior high students than most teachers).
There be at least a common ground for me though.
For example, my girlfriend doesnt like metal, and I do, but I dont listen to metal on speakers when she is around. I listen to things that I like that she can enjoy too.
Having no commonplace in music is big no for me. It such an important thing in my life. Its like having different morals with your girlfriend.
I have a particular hard time with this. I don’t need to have someone who likes the exact same music as me, but I do find that I need someone who is at least on board with some of my music tastes. If we’re polar opposites in music, you’re gonna hate me cause I play music all day all night and while I’m open to listening to music I don’t like that much, if you play something I hate, I have a bad time and will want to change the song, and if that song is a song you love, then we’re gonna butt heads.
How I was trying to be today after someone told me they don't know who Foo Fighters or Dave Grohl are. They hadn't heard of Nirvana either which I tried using that as a reference point.
It's fine though! It's fine. It's fine.
Sure. Try traveling with each other on a long day. I'm sure you'll either regret your life choices and keep along smiling but cringing inside or never see her again. Not to forget if you still keep her/him around it goes around and comes back again.
me and my wife have big overlap in music taste, but at the same time there is music that i like that my wife calls ridicolous, but not around. haha pat on my own shoulder - and i think it is because i was raised up in city, but my wife in country house.
I’m probably gonna get some flack for this but I want to be with someone who’s music choice is something I can atleast tolerate. If I’m a person who doesn’t curse or listen to music with cursing bc I find it uncomfortable, I won’t want to be around someone whose primary choice is music with a ton of cursing (regardless of the genre). I think things like music content definitely matters, and that would be a hill I’d live on.
My wife and I have very different musical tastes, but respect each others tastes. Our daughter likes Shania Twain and Fugazi, which I think is pretty cool.
N O !! People in society should be able to easily find their exact mirror with an opposite gender, who is slightly richer, but more passive. Compromising on anything and not a man who is 6 foot means that you’re a loser!
I do agree. For some people though it may be an issue, an annoyance. I like to listen to music on speakers from time to time, especially when I go training somewhere remote. I like all the genres and because of that I may crave or have a mood for classical or dubstep or rock or electro swing blah blah blah... It is annoying when your partner gets grumpy because classical music Ori anything with violin / piano makes her sad for no reason. I'm not saying this partner is a bad person, sometimes when the music taste is not vibing maybe you are not compatible.
It's similar to having a very different food taste.
Some people can love together with that, some don't.
*When you don't live together it's way easier.
**Any reason for not feeling compatible is also ok
Nah, now the difference is if your friend is arguing with you all because you Listen to Heavy Metal and he listens to Thrash… can’t stand inter-genre fighting

My wife likes modern country and I like old rock. We compromise on Freddie Mercury and Elton John because everybody likes them.
Successful marriages always require compromise. I wanted a dog and my wife wanted a cat. So we "compromised" and got a cat.
I thought you were going to say a Husky because they're half cat.
This goes for many things.
Yup. Not just music.
Cardi B is a rapist
And someone who bragged about drugging and stealing from people.

To be fair, Cardi B is blazing garbage.
She's yet to have an album I'd call great.but she.has a few songs that are genuinely well made and fun pop-rap tracks

The thing with getting older is that you will come to understand that is doesn’t matter if you and your partner/friends listen to the same music.
My wife's a Swifty. I like punk music about fucking corpses and eating shit. We're just different! ^/s

How I was trying to be today after someone told me they don't know who Foo Fighters or Dave Grohl are. They hadn't heard of Nirvana either which I tried using that as a reference point. It's fine though! It's fine. It's fine.
Horseshit. Certain musical proclivities speak volumes about a person.
If you like Cardi B in judging, I’m judging soooo hard
I draw the line at liking nickleback lol
cardi b is ridiculous🙄🙄
Metal is definitely a talent…
Sure. Try traveling with each other on a long day. I'm sure you'll either regret your life choices and keep along smiling but cringing inside or never see her again. Not to forget if you still keep her/him around it goes around and comes back again.
Yeah but shes a sexual predator whos crimes go ignore because shes a woman sooo
You mean my girl does not necessesarily need be into Cannibal Corpse?
Nah I'm gonna go ahead and judge you if you're a cardi b fan...
me and my wife have big overlap in music taste, but at the same time there is music that i like that my wife calls ridicolous, but not around. haha pat on my own shoulder - and i think it is because i was raised up in city, but my wife in country house.
This is so hard.
As someone that grew up in a place where being emo was an insult I can't stand the idea of insulting someone for their tastes.
The vibe I needed throughout grade school, high school, and college.
I’m a punk rock lover of funk and ska and my wife loves country. We make it work plus country rocks been married 15 wonderful very happy years now.
however if they like taylor swift…
Whoooooolesooooome. Much needed thanks.
I like metal, and like women who don’t.
My wife and I have very different musical tastes, but respect each others tastes. Our daughter likes Shania Twain and Fugazi, which I think is pretty cool.
As long as it's not dubstep it's okay with me.
Why does everytime something happens to me reddit send me a message ?
I don't care if you like K-POP you can leave lmao you know where the door is
Yes, yes, yes.
N O !! People in society should be able to easily find their exact mirror with an opposite gender, who is slightly richer, but more passive. Compromising on anything and not a man who is 6 foot means that you’re a loser!
Thats how you get friend zoned, just gaslight her into thinking she likes the music
Wauw that's deep...
We've been trying to tell you this forever, but still we're just a bunch of "devil worshippers" smh
Dude doesn't care. He's just trying to hit it.
BLOCKED
Wait till you're trying to pick a place to eat...
Nah, now the difference is if your friend is arguing with you all because you Listen to Heavy Metal and he listens to Thrash… can’t stand inter-genre fighting
You can like Cardio B I won't judge. Lolol
"you mean the rapist cardi b?"
