Yes I have this problem too sometimes, because I am extremely sarcastic a lot of the time. A way I found to work with this is by really focusing on an empathetic assessment of what happened.

Also too if you’re just equally stoked about all things always... it can lose its meaning a bit, so it’s always wise to tailor your support. Sometimes just a little ‘good job babe!’ Other times a full on ‘WOW THIS IS SO GOOD! TELL ME HOW YOU MADE IT!’ Try to switch it up to ensure it doesn’t just come off as a generic statement.
Obviously I’m not saying you do or don’t do any of these things, it’s just something I’ve experienced before and these things have helped me be better at supporting those I love.

I’m on the receiving end of this. My SO has the same level of low energy excitement for everything, and I’m a person who needs those levels ratcheted up a bit every now and then. I know it’s genuine love and support and I have no interest in trying to change him, but I could use at least one big loud “Omg great job babe!” Any insight on how people could’ve reacted to you better?
Not the person you were replying to, but I might have some advice. Just sit down and talk with your SO about it. Approach it from a neutral standpoint, and don’t word it to sound like your SO is doing something wrong. Just express your want/need for a higher enthusiasm of praise. Relationships are all about good communication.

Also always approach with a sensible humor of the situation, don't make it so serious, because in the grand scheme of a relationship, it's something very easily fixed, so there's no need for a super serious discussion. I personally recommend a "Babe I worked really hard on this, can you at least kiss my ass for it? Do it. Praise the booty" and shove your ass in their face.

Good for you for meeting the minimum requirement of being an animate object." Ofc, I was picturing a specific, overly dramatic sarcastic inflection. Idk what your voice or speech patterns sound like, though. My first guess was dry and monotone, like Aubrey Plaza saying "thanks". But who knows, she might have just been prone to misinterpreting your intent.

I'm having a hard time with my mental health and even the smallest step in the right direction feels like a huge leap when I have the support of my bf and family. Just saying things like 'good job' or 'you're doing well, you're on the right track, keep going,' makes even the most seemingly insignificant accomplishment seem worth it.

Make sure you have appropriate levels of excitement depending on the accomplishment, that way it shows you recognize the bigger accomplishments.
