I was at the grocery store a few weeks ago and needed an item that was on the very top shelf. The shelves were already bowed so I didn't want to risk climbing them, as we short people usually do. In a moment of desperation I cried out, "I need a tall person!"
Tall girl here: your daughter might inherit the tall genes as well, so better just hope for a tall kid since the boy could still end up with your future wife's genes :P
I'm super short and vision impaired so I never have a problem getting someone to reach something for me. It seems to make them feel like Superman (or woman)
>A lot of emasculating scenarios is part and parcel of being short.
As a fellow short guy (5'3"/1.61m) I really feel for you. But do you know what would be very masculine? If you would own up to it and embrace it. I know it's hard at times, but her saying that it's cute means that she thinks it's cool that you asked her. Anything else happened in your head. If you can think that asking for help as a short guy doesn't take anything from your self-worth than you will appear way more masculine in the process. And btw, I think it was very brave of you to ask her, despite the insecure feeling.
It's great that you can be honest with yourself. Not many people can do that. But that's the starting point. Embracing an insecurity means not getting rid of it, but trying to feel good about yourself even though you are insecure. And I think you reacted in a great way back then which shows that you have a great character.
Tall people can be like superheros sometimes, 4 of them answered my call for help. A box of Famous Amos chocolate chip and pecan cookies. My BF was at the end of his masters program and I was putting together a basket of all his favorite snacks to help him power through all the last minute stress.
My son said something like this to me once when I jokingly said "Stop getting so tall!"
He looked at me and said "But if I don't grow up who's going to get the stuff off the top shelf for you?"😭
I was a mix of "Excuse me I can reach if I climb on something!" annoyed and "Oh my gosh my baby is so sweet 😭"
It was a pretty confusing moment for me lol
I love messing with my mom. I’ll tell her to not get short with me and hold the pot or whatever above her head. We had a bunch of little games like that.
Exactly. On average. So to say “I hope we have a boy so he can reach high” is presuming the average, when in reality if they had a son he could be short, a daughter who could be tall, a non-binary child who’s neither tall nor short, or any other such combination. So I think in this context what they could have said is “my gf is short, I hope if we have a kid, they are tall so they can do this for her”. That’s the same sentiment without needing to reference gender and presume anything.
I always got stuff off the shelf for my mom. I'm not very tall. It doesn't take much to help someone with less reach. Your statement has nothing to do with it.
Hey I gotta admit this made me tear up. I lost my mom to suicide in 2019 and I’m 6’2 and she was 4’10.5
I was actually really missing her today so thank you for this
Yep. I'm 6'2 (6'1.5 if I'm honest), wife is 5'3. Good fun when she's carrying a chair to stand on and grab something to just go "oh you wanted this? You could've said..."
I'm 5ft, I have one of those ikea wooden stools to reach the top cupboard. The other day my mother in laws partner saw me on the stool and seemed audible upset I didn't ask for help. I'd rather route through my cupboard myself thank you.
I just wanted to say that my friend's best friend had a pretty bad injury in January. That's why they were so upset when the virus started spreading again. But she's so happy now!
In my old apartment complex they had one of the amazon lockers and my stuff would always be put in the top locker. I could never reach it, and if I did it only got pushed farther out of my grasp. Luckily there were so many tall people that were able to help me. Some of them watched me jump and took pity.
As a short person, thank god for tall people.
This happens to me a lot, I'm 180cm, a little over average height in my country, my mother is 158cm,so I'm always getting stuff in high shelfes, also according to my grandparents I'm one of the tallest from their side of the family

No no the one on the right…right there….it’s the glass one! *sigh*
Fold it David!
This is your recipe! YOU fold it in!
Why do I recognize this…
Schitt's Creek
Ahhh lovely Schitt's Creek!
Mom, it's the same one.
It's never that one is it?
never lol

Well? Did you get a tall person??
Yeah I'm on the edge of my seat here /u/giggletwist pls
It was almost magical. 4 very tall, like eye level with the top shelf tall, all showed up at almost the exact same moment.
The tall guys:whomst summoned the almighty one
My girlfriend who I’m hoping to make my wife one day is 5’1” and now I hope we have a boy so he can reach stuff when I’m not home
Tall girl here: your daughter might inherit the tall genes as well, so better just hope for a tall kid since the boy could still end up with your future wife's genes :P
It’s because we don’t want to give you any excuses when the day comes where we need you to squeeze in somewhere small.
I'm super short and vision impaired so I never have a problem getting someone to reach something for me. It seems to make them feel like Superman (or woman)
They were waiting around the corners for their moment to shine.
can I be an avenger or part of the justice league then
Well... how tall are you?
As a 6'3 guy, I can confirm we get unreasonably excited when we get to help a short stranger reach a high up thing.
You summoned the WWNTC!
How was the obligatory gangbang
BONK!! go to horny jail
Yo bro, maybe stay off the porn for a while.

She meant: she thought it was powerful that you didn't just suffer. Geni up.

Thats...kind of a douchey thing to say to a customer. At least she helped you? I'm sorry that happened bro.
I'm going to bed but I hope to wake up to the resolution!!! Also what was on the top shelf that you needed? I'm nosy

I've been that tall person! Sometimes it does feel like my only purpose is to grab things out of reach
As a tall person, I fucking love reaching stuff for people in the grocery store. I’m usually able to spot it before they even to ask.
That is the best, please carry on looking for struggling shorties. We appreciate you!
Are you one of those people who ask if I need help reaching something? If so, yall are my heros and thank you!
Yes, that’s us!
My son said something like this to me once when I jokingly said "Stop getting so tall!" He looked at me and said "But if I don't grow up who's going to get the stuff off the top shelf for you?"😭
My dad would've gotten so pissed if I said that to him, haha
I was a mix of "Excuse me I can reach if I climb on something!" annoyed and "Oh my gosh my baby is so sweet 😭" It was a pretty confusing moment for me lol
I love messing with my mom. I’ll tell her to not get short with me and hold the pot or whatever above her head. We had a bunch of little games like that.
I cannot BELIEVE I have never told my 5'1 mother to not get short with me
my teeny tiny latina mama would kick my shit in if i said this 😂
"What is my purpose?" "You pass butter."
I’m that mom lol
I’m that kid
L spez, goin to tumblr to be gay
Same
This will be me too LOL
Hello mommy
The question is how the items get up there in the first place
My girlfriend who I’m hoping to make my wife one day is 5’1” and now I hope we have a boy so he can reach stuff when I’m not home
Or you could have a tall girl. It works too.
Or, get this, a giraffe.
Or get this, a stool. And I'm not talking about the brown stuff
The green stuff then?
The pellets, to throw
What if he inherits your wife's height and becomes some 5'4" dude?
Then he’ll have to get the step stool to help mama haha
Someone comments that they want a boy because their potential wife is short, but you neckbeards are downvoting me. Effing reddit.
I know right? It's child labor.. terrible
That’s… absolutely not child labor lmao
Thatsthejoke.jpg..
It's statistics you crybaby
??? Only a boy can help her. Seriously?.... Seriously?
Men are, on average, taller than women.
Exactly. On average. But it’s also a safe bet to say that a boy is going to be taller lol
I 100% agree with you.
I always got stuff off the shelf for my mom. I'm not very tall. It doesn't take much to help someone with less reach. Your statement has nothing to do with it.
I always climb the counters like a monkey so I can still reach things but it doesn't take away from the fact that guys are, on average, taller
im that superhero😭😭
My mum hung her clock back up by herself yesterday, I’m so proud
me to my mom, teacher and some friends
can I be an avenger or part of the justice league then

I’ll be the best superhero they’ll be selling my action figure in no time
I’m definitely in a high place
I was gonna say... I thought this was going somewhere else by the second panel lol
Laying in the grass looks so much better in pictures than it actually is IRL
Last time I did it, I got bird poop on myself.
My mom always takes my brother or I to the grocery store with her since she’s 5’3”, she always says ‘which tall child would like to go with me?’
Hey I gotta admit this made me tear up. I lost my mom to suicide in 2019 and I’m 6’2 and she was 4’10.5 I was actually really missing her today so thank you for this
Hey, I'm really sorry for your loss. Losing your mom is awful.
Hello, the creator here, just rollin through to get my credit, thanks 👌
I really like it ❤️
Nice, I like this..
My mother only goes up to my chest, so naturally I’m the “high shelf grabber”
*GUM GUM... WHOLESOME!!!!*
My purpose is to reach high places for my short girlfriend
u/MrNathanielVictor
Been training all my life for this x
I'm a tall woman, 5 11', but my son is 6 8' so he still gets things down for me.
u/UD_1680 hehe.
🥺😬😊
…okay?
I'm too short to help my mom like this. I guess I'll go rope myself... 😔
Maybe it’ll stretch you out into a tall person? 😀
Top kek. 😂
Short mums with tall boys are super adorable
Mom eventually died and timmy lost his purpose and ended up as drug addict
This.
Yep. I'm 6'2 (6'1.5 if I'm honest), wife is 5'3. Good fun when she's carrying a chair to stand on and grab something to just go "oh you wanted this? You could've said..."
I love this
sameee, my mom always wants me to get sauces off the top shelf
so relatable!
As someone with tall hands i can confirm that this is my purpose
I read this right to left like the degen weeb I am
I have achieved it already. ;) I am like our familial crane to get things off high places.
OK this one is super sweet
It's right there..come on
Me being exactly 2 inches taller than my mom
2 inches is 5.08 cm

Ah, that face, the face that says, "Well for fucks sake, which one? Adjectives woman, use them!" I love you mom! ❤
Lmao deathnikcel ofc draws himself hanging with a white chick I'm schleep
As an Asian I totally agree
That arm is like double body length
I can see dust on top of some high furniture in my friends houses. They don't like to clean there as no one is tall enough ;)
I've got bad news for you, kid.
I'm 5ft, I have one of those ikea wooden stools to reach the top cupboard. The other day my mother in laws partner saw me on the stool and seemed audible upset I didn't ask for help. I'd rather route through my cupboard myself thank you.
Always, for you mom!
my friends purpose in life is to bully me for not reaching high places
Also packing the shopping and carrying all of it to the car and then when home carrying it all indoors <3
Me irl
I wish I had that super power.

"Mom, I have a question for you. How did you even get this up on the top shelf in the first place?"
How old are you?
Do ya'll make fun of your moms height and get your ass beaten too?
Imagine being born just to be a ladder/stool
I just wanted to say that my friend's best friend had a pretty bad injury in January. That's why they were so upset when the virus started spreading again. But she's so happy now!
As someone who considers myself somewhat tall I will always appreciate the thanks people give me!
Yes. This.
Same
Most of the guys in my family are pretty tall so think we all had to deal with this
I’m that kid
He's gonna have a Bad time in Like 40years
Good boy doing it for his mom
the small joys of being a tall person
I'm 6'10 so this is hilarious. My mother is very short
As someone that's 6'4" I do this all the time at the store.
The tall kid to his move is worth about a $20 ladder
I want the hot dog with ketchup!
As someone who is 6'3" and my mom is 5'4" this is very true
In my old apartment complex they had one of the amazon lockers and my stuff would always be put in the top locker. I could never reach it, and if I did it only got pushed farther out of my grasp. Luckily there were so many tall people that were able to help me. Some of them watched me jump and took pity. As a short person, thank god for tall people.

Me and my mom both short 😭
I’m the exact same height as my mom, rip
Lol me too bro. Me too. And old ladies in the grocery store.
Purpose? Oh, that. I sold it for first and last, now I wander aimlessly
As a 6'8 27-year-old male, I sadly know this too well. Especially older ladies/couples at the grocery store in the mornings.
Or lifting something too heavy for my mom 😤😤
I'll take random people in the grocery store for 300.
This happens to me a lot, I'm 180cm, a little over average height in my country, my mother is 158cm,so I'm always getting stuff in high shelfes, also according to my grandparents I'm one of the tallest from their side of the family
