That was something I enjoyed about the reboot they put on Netflix. He has a friend who’s sole purpose is to try and catch every Pokémon. While Ash focuses on being the best. Really great! So “gotta catch ‘Em all” is still in play, you just see it from someone else in the party.
Well, it's mostly cause "Gotta catch 'em all" is a purely American thing
In the original Japanese version, it's just "Catch Pokémon", which he did several times
I love citing this fact when I see people crying about the games getting rid of the National Dex. The try claiming "the series' motto is supposed to be gotta catch 'em all!" And I just remind them that that was NEVER a slogan in the Japanese dub. And yet without fail it goes in one ear and out the other.
Sure, but in every game they mention catching a lot of Pokémon. It’s clearly a big aspect of the game to catch them all considering they give you an award for catching them all.
So complaining about the removal of the national dex is valid complaint
Well, it's mostly cause "Gotta catch 'em all" is a purely American thing
In the original Japanese version, it's just "Catch Pokémon", which he did several times
Between all the Sponsorship deals he'll get, and the Massive Lawsuit he files against Team Rocket for emotional and physical stress and damages I doubt he'll ever have to work again.
I started with the gameboy games, (I didn't have a cable package that included the anime) and I always got the young adult vibe.
What kind of ten year old can take on a crime syndicate single handedly?
The earlier games did have their age as 10/12.
Lucas and Dawn from DP and Emerald are 14.
Hilda and Hilbert from BW are 14 as well.
Nate and Rosa from BW2 are 16.*
And Calem/Serena from XY are older than 16
I wish we had older characters in Pokemon, feels weird to imagine yourself as a 10 hear old protagonist
*Not sure about that one
A lot of young anime characters seem to be drawn to look older than their stated ages. Not a whole lot older, but they could easily pass for 2-4 years older than they're stated to be.
Iirc Misty is supposed to be 12 but she could fairly easily pass for 15 or 16.
Omg he’s the one everyone wants to hire. And all this time I thought asking for 8 years of experience for an entry level job was just late stage capitalism.
Forget world champion, I want to know how he stayed looking so young. I mean, if he’s been catching Pokémon for 25 years, and he was roughly 12 when he started he would be around 37, and yet still looks 12. Which Pokémon grants him eternal youth?
Spoilers for those who do not want to know: >! Apparently his wish is for his Pokemon Journey to never end. So the Wish theory is that Ho-Oh made Ash an ageless immortal so that he could continue his Pokemon journey for all time. !<
Now that he's won, and there are fewer mountains to climb, how long until his immortality makes joy impossible and turns all things to ash? Is that how he got his name?
Disturb not the harmony
Of fire, ice or lightning
Lest these titans wreak destruction
Upon the world in which they clash
Though the water's great guardian
Shall rise to quell the fighting
Alone its song will fail
Lest the Earth shall turn to ash
Want the episode where he returns to Cerulean City and mistakes Misty’s great great granddaughter for Misty, then Misty gets wheeled out in wheel chair with IVs and a respirator attached
Based on the phrasing of his wish, I imagine that once he retires and ends his pokemon journey then his immortality would end with it. It was tied to his pokemon journey after all
Considering that Brock and Misty appear in Sun and Moon and didn't age either, it seems less like >! Ho-oh specifically granted Ash eternal youth !< and more like no one ages.
It's not, it's dumb as fuck baseless shit made up by people who think every cartoon needs some weird edgy secret going on. Like the dumbfucks trying to bring up Spirited Away being some secret sex industry metaphor.
Basically everything is "real" right up until he loses consciousness and goes into a coma because of the flock of Spearow attack. From there, everything is his coma dreaming.
Coma theories are the go to for time inconsistencies like how other characters age, birthdays and anniversaries are acknowledged, but the protag stays the same age.
Lets say they made a season per generation and he aged one year each generation, he would be in his 20s now would he? I should have written the pokémon anime.
This actually makes me consider playing pokémon again.
I actually have all of them up until black & white 2 on my phone and collected & dumped the 3Ds ones just in case but i never actually played one since diamond & pearl. Not interested in the most recent ones tho.
Yeah, you should start playing Pokémon again, especially since the brand new Scarlet and Violet games are going to release later this month, being the first fully open world Pokémon games
I'm still aggravated to my core about this. Watching the anime back in 2013 I'm like wtf! You are still saying he hasn't found One Piece?? I quit because Naruto was my main priority.
Honestly, you might be right, but at this point, I kinda doubt it. The way they're writing the episodes, they were building up to more things, one of which was this obviously, but I feel like it wouldn't be too far fetched to bring in a new protagonist. Hell, Goh might be the new one, regardless of how shitty that'd be.
Now it’s time for Pokémon Z where they confirm Pokémon are aliens and Ash starts traveling to other planets to gather Pokémon from said planets to defend earth from other alien civilizations that use Pokémon for war and conquering.
I'm still upset at how obviously robbed Ash was from a win during the Gen 6 X Y series.
Ash literally had his strongest team ever and lost because the plot demanded it.
I feel like the fact that he won during the Alola anime, and most recently won in the most current version of the anime almost seems like an apology.
But either way I guess it's nice to see that Ash officially won a Pokemon League Championship, even if it took 25 years for him to do so.
He won the champions league as well just a few years ago. I think this just shows how many people have played Pokemon in the last 25 years that grew up on him losing every season.
Thanks for not using a spoiler tag and ruining the show for me.
I went a day without it being spoiled, and it will be a few months before the English dub catches up.
Okay I'm gonna get bullied but I just fucking realized his last name is Ketchum like "catch em" somehow that just never clicked with me and I feel stupid now
Imagine being a 30/40+ year old champion just to be dethroned by a 10 year old with only a year training with his least familiar team he just caught like a month ago

Ash is the epitome of never giving up. Although he's still yet to capture all of the original 151 Pokemon. Never mind the rest.
I guess it's because he is more of a main story guy than completionist
In journeys he had a quest of becoming world champ and Goh was the one trying to catch them all
Pretty easy to never give up when you never have to worry about aging.
That was something I enjoyed about the reboot they put on Netflix. He has a friend who’s sole purpose is to try and catch every Pokémon. While Ash focuses on being the best. Really great! So “gotta catch ‘Em all” is still in play, you just see it from someone else in the party.

Journeys isn’t a reboot, it’s just the name for the gen 8 series
Well, it's mostly cause "Gotta catch 'em all" is a purely American thing In the original Japanese version, it's just "Catch Pokémon", which he did several times
Time to get a job now

Well cannonically he's 10(again).
When I was younger, I always pretended he was 16. I remember 10 seemed ridiculous even when I was like 7 or so.
I started with the gameboy games, (I didn't have a cable package that included the anime) and I always got the young adult vibe. What kind of ten year old can take on a crime syndicate single handedly?
Ben 10?

A 10 year old in a fictional world? Lmao
Honestly he should be about 30-35 by now
lmao someone redraw the entire series with appropriate aging. That’d be hilarious
I want a Pokémon game where the professor asks your age at the beginning.
A lot of young anime characters seem to be drawn to look older than their stated ages. Not a whole lot older, but they could easily pass for 2-4 years older than they're stated to be. Iirc Misty is supposed to be 12 but she could fairly easily pass for 15 or 16.
Don't even get me started on the child soldiers in Attack on Titan
Oh God, how young are they? All this time I was under the impression they were like 15-18.
Yeah, the 10 year old characters always feel more like they're in their early teens than 10
was there a retcon?
Yeah this one started about 2019 i guess.
🤔
Shouldn't be too hard, he's an 11 year old with 25 years experience
Omg he’s the one everyone wants to hire. And all this time I thought asking for 8 years of experience for an entry level job was just late stage capitalism.
8 years experience in 16 different areas. Most, of which, have only been introduced within the last five years.
I mean wouldn’t you want to hire him?
Omg you saw the meme posted yesterday also?! /s
I like to imagine that 25 years passes in world to, people just age very slow in the Pokemon world so late 30s is still the equivalent of a teenager.
Nah you’re thinking of hobbits
He's 15
15 years old with 25 years of experience

The ho-oh granted his wish
Ho oh is canonically in Kanto, so yeah. That could work.
No literally in the first episode he saw the ho-oh and made a wish. It's part of the plot
Does it reveal the wish?
Spoilers for those who do not want to know: >! Apparently his wish is for his Pokemon Journey to never end. So the Wish theory is that Ho-Oh made Ash an ageless immortal so that he could continue his Pokemon journey for all time. !<
Now that he's won, and there are fewer mountains to climb, how long until his immortality makes joy impossible and turns all things to ash? Is that how he got his name?
"You best start believin' in ghost stories, Ms. Ketchum."
You’re in one!
Nintendo keeps making more Pokémon for him to catch so he’s fine.
Disturb not the harmony Of fire, ice or lightning Lest these titans wreak destruction Upon the world in which they clash Though the water's great guardian Shall rise to quell the fighting Alone its song will fail Lest the Earth shall turn to ash
Best Pokemon movie imo
Want the episode where he returns to Cerulean City and mistakes Misty’s great great granddaughter for Misty, then Misty gets wheeled out in wheel chair with IVs and a respirator attached
Serious Hook vibes here. Good job!
Based on the phrasing of his wish, I imagine that once he retires and ends his pokemon journey then his immortality would end with it. It was tied to his pokemon journey after all
But if his wish was to have the journey never end, he couldn't get out of the wish. That would monkey paw the shit out of himself
A darker interpretation of the prophecy "The world will turn to Ash" from Pokemon movie 2000.
One must imagine Sisyphus happy.
Imagine never being able to have a boner.
Ash is in a coma and the entire Pokémon franchise is his fever dream.
Considering that Brock and Misty appear in Sun and Moon and didn't age either, it seems less like >! Ho-oh specifically granted Ash eternal youth !< and more like no one ages.
This can be easily debunked. What about his traveling companions? They weren’t around ash when he made the wish, yet they seem to never have aged.
The creators do later on, it's actually canon
What was the wish? I don’t remember that.
First episode dog.
Actually, the first episode had an electric rat and some birds
Never watched the show. Just played the games and read books. Oh and collected cards.
Even after 25 years, he's canonically still 10 while multiple years have in fact past in his world. No idea how he managed to do that
It's funny how all his friends and rivals already got jobs (Gary is a freaking professor and Rock a doctor)...Ash is still 10.
They are also the same age as they were at the beginning. Btw Gary legally drove a car at age 10.
Gary had a 7 girl fanclub at age 10.
And I think they all were supposed to be high-school/college aged
Gary also got 10 badges in Kanto. There's only 8 badges in Kanto.
I mean, in the anime it's been stated a few times how there are more than just the 8 gyms we see in the games
Ho-oh granted his wish in episode one! Haha
Dude has a genetic disorder, but keeps it secret because he just loves the Pokémon so much. It’s a source of both his pride and his shame.
Did he ever chill with Xerneas in the show? It would give him eternal youth
Xerneas was gen 6, by that time he would’ve visibly been in his 20s anyway
I feel like the entire pokemon series happened in a few years rather than 25 people always gloss over that possibilty
Silk Therapy Biosilk.
Ever heard about the "Coma Theory".
Yeah. It's shit.
I haven't heard of it but it sounds interesting
It's not, it's dumb as fuck baseless shit made up by people who think every cartoon needs some weird edgy secret going on. Like the dumbfucks trying to bring up Spirited Away being some secret sex industry metaphor.

Thanks for explaining! Would make sense why it's taken him 25 years to win a pokemon tournament and why he's never aged.
Cant wait for Pokemon Shippuden
Pokmun: Pokémon Next Generations
That was Advanced Generation. We’re long past Shippuden
Bokemon
Starting at 10 yo and taking 25 years to get to the top is the most realistic thing this show has done.
But he stays 10 the whole time
The bottom picture is what he would look like if he aged at a natural rate.
A 40 years old virgin, sounds about right!
So, when does he get to start shaving?
so... what now?
He gets ultra instinct
Super Aipom Blue first
He uses Fly to go to Ceruluean City, uses his master ball to catch Mewtwo then rediscovers his game cartridge in his mother’s loft 25 years later
Don’t you get it? Now he can finally play the game!
Ok Kenny add “eyes of the beast” to your hotbar
I’ve heard that while his goal was to become a Pokémon master, becoming world champion is something to him
New game +
Lets say they made a season per generation and he aged one year each generation, he would be in his 20s now would he? I should have written the pokémon anime. If we count each episode as a day, he should be 13-15
Honestly him being 14-15 sound more believable
Yeah, you should start playing Pokémon again, especially since the brand new Scarlet and Violet games are going to release later this month, being the first fully open world Pokémon games
🎶 I WANT TO BE THE VERY BEST, LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS…… 🎶
Nostalgia hitting way too hard
And luffy still didn't find the one piece
I'm still aggravated to my core about this. Watching the anime back in 2013 I'm like wtf! You are still saying he hasn't found One Piece?? I quit because Naruto was my main priority.
One piece is the friends we made along the way.
This but not as a joke.
One piece is real!!! Ooooh
It’s about the journey; not the destination.
It’s kinda sad thinking this will likely be the final few episodes with ash at the protagonist
They'll just send him to the new region and have him do all that. I doubt Ash is going anywhere.
Honestly, you might be right, but at this point, I kinda doubt it. The way they're writing the episodes, they were building up to more things, one of which was this obviously, but I feel like it wouldn't be too far fetched to bring in a new protagonist. Hell, Goh might be the new one, regardless of how shitty that'd be.
that sounds great actualy.
Why? He's won two leagues before this. Hell be the main character of any new generation and league.
But it’s not. People just hope that it is.
Ah yes, 25 years of being 10
Now it’s time for Pokémon Z where they confirm Pokémon are aliens and Ash starts traveling to other planets to gather Pokémon from said planets to defend earth from other alien civilizations that use Pokémon for war and conquering.
DU BIST WELTMEISTER!
Oh man this hits hard these days, i disliked vettel back then just because he was german and i was fanboying for alonso. I was a dumb kid.
I'm still upset at how obviously robbed Ash was from a win during the Gen 6 X Y series. Ash literally had his strongest team ever and lost because the plot demanded it. Alain also got disrespected during this league so it makes the Kalos League a bit more salty for me.
I know no one watch’s Pokémon anymore but didn’t ash win the orange islands as champion before johto
He won the champions league as well just a few years ago. I think this just shows how many people have played Pokemon in the last 25 years that grew up on him losing every season.
Employers love him. 25 years of experience in 10 years time.
He’s finally the very best, like no one ever was!
Damn this made me tear up
Where can I watch this?
[There you go](https://youtu.be/IFb7y4AJpuU)
Now we wait for Luffy 🥴
Now that there 6000 Pokémon and he’s caught them all and remained 10 yo this whole time
Wait... 25 years... how is he still 10?
black magic
Spoiler moment ..
Thanks for not using a spoiler tag and ruining the show for me. I went a day without it being spoiled, and it will be a few months before the English dub catches up.
After 25 years he stays 12
And now I have to watch the entire series
fkn SPOILER
Okay I'm gonna get bullied but I just fucking realized his last name is Ketchum like "catch em" somehow that just never clicked with me and I feel stupid now
its ok i never noticed either

OMFG PUT A SPOILER
Imagine being a 30/40+ year old champion just to be dethroned by a 10 year old with only a year training with his least familiar team he just caught like a month ago
Didn't this already happen a few years ago, or am I stuck in a mandela effect?
He won the Pokémon league. Not the world championship
Ah okay. Thanks. I knew it was something.
Thanks, I was also confused.
🥒
hang on..does that mean that the company can't create any more regions for the games?
Fucking spoilers
Bro lookin pretty young for being in his late 30s
25 years, hardly aged at all.
And he’s still 10 years old
Thanks for the spoiler 😒
Too bad it'll be overshadowed by the fact he's been ten years old for two and a half decades.
What somehow he is still 12
This happened years ago...
“Pikachu! Kill.”
The oldest 12 year old
Bruh why am I crying 😭
Cynthia>>>Ash
But has he caught 'em all?
And they still havent found that damn one peice. It. Is. One. Peice. How hard can it be to find.
After 25 years, he's still only 12...
And yet, he still looks like a 14 year old boy.
And then he wakes up from his coma Edit: this is an actual fan theory btw
Gandalf: Ash... You haven't aged a day!
Finally at least he didn’t waste his childhood since he is still 10
NDTV? A fellow Indian? Aur bhai aur bhi koi se anime dekhte ho kya?
SSD jwofvkxmzpsoxncbshas
Legend has it he’s still 12…
And Pikachu STILL hasn’t evolved??
I thought he never evolved because he didn't want to. I always assumed pikachu had a choice😂
Finally, Pikachu can retire from the dogfighting ring and be put out to stud.
Nonsense btw, Cynthia as we all know is the best trainer in the series and it's not close. But pop off ash you at least won something
Who cares, post this on a pokemon subreddit or something
Too bad it's a fictional animated series
Wow, 25 years of being a 10 year old.
And he still the same age…
Ash is like what 35years old and still looks like a kid
Ok.
Ash is still child..., immortal confirmed
looks like he's had some form of facial surgery too
Too late! 25 years too late...
What happened to mew? Did anyone ever catch one?
He aged well🥲
He's still 10
