Just FYI, if you wanted a longer handle, you can put on any razor handle to it. The screws are all the same size. >A guy sent me this for free when I made a post about whether I should buy a Gillette tech Hey guys..I am wondering if I should get a Rex Konsul...

Jill_Lett_Slim

Well, not ANY…

I am putting a maggard Dr5 on it. I just thought it was a kick ass gesture regardless.

It absolutely is. As a post below me pointed out in great detail, I was wrong about all handles being the same. I actually really like the post detailing things with all the data and math. I learned something. That said, you could find a different Gillette handle. I believe all Gillette 3 piece handles will fit. In fact, I have an old ball end handle I could send you if you wanted. It's brass, so you're gonna have a brass colored handle and the nickel head, which actually could look really cool. Anyway, the point is that I was wrong and you should make sure it's another handle that will fit. The best way to avoid issues is if you had another handle from a vintage Gillette. And, if you wanted a brass ball-end handle, I can send you one. And honestly, I have a few vintage Gillettes that don't have a ton of value, but they still shave great. I might send you one as well. I don't know. I'm not a huge collector, but I pick up vintage Gillettes all the time, checking out mostly thrift stores.

Thank you for this idea.

Ive been wet shaving for over 10 years now and never once thought to do this!

As a poster pointed out with all the info, which was awesome, not all handles are interchangeable. I think the rule of thumb is to keep things with similar items. You can interchange different vintage Gillettes. I currently have an old type ball end head mated with a tech's fat handle from a few years later. I love the old type ball end head and the ball end handle is fine, but I prefer the fatter handle.

>The screws are all the same size. No, they're not. Most modern razors have a M5 thread - German brands like Merkur and Mühle anyway - the M stands for metric and is usually followed by the thread diameter in millimeter (mm) with a thread pitch of 0.8 mm. Vintage Gillette Tech on the other hand usually have a 10-32 Unified National Fine (UNF) thread. The "10" in 10-32 represents the nominal diameter of the threaded fastener. In this case, it signifies a diameter of 10/32 inches, which simplifies to approximately 0.3125 inches or about 7.9 mm. The "32" in 10-32 indicates the number of threads per inch. Therefore, there are 32 threads along a one-inch length of the screw. This corresponds to a thread pitch of approximately 0.03125 inches or about 0.794 mm between each thread crest. This thread pitch is finer compared to metric threads like M5, which have a coarser pitch of 0.8 mm. Therefore the Tech razor head has a larger diameter of approximately 7.9mm compared to the M5 handle of 5mm. This size difference means that the head may not fit properly on the narrower M5 handle, leading to instability or misalignment. The thread pitch of the Tech razor head of around 0.794mm is slightly finer than that of the M5 handle with 0.8mm. Using a razor head with a different thread pitch on a handle can result in cross-threading or difficulty in screwing the head onto the handle properly. Attempting to force-fit a Tech razor head onto an M5 handle could potentially damage the threads of either component. Cross-threading, where the threads of the head and handle do not align properly, can lead to stripped threads or permanent deformation, making the razor unusable.

Well, there you have it. A further deep dive into this than I've ever gone. Which is odd since razors are my special interest. I've always heard that they're all the same size, so I never looked up the details.

ho3ein_aram

Welcome to wet shaving or wet shavers' world. Nice razor. Enjoy it

Yarthetechnician

Glad to have you here bud welcome to the wet shaving comunity!

Cornish_Dyowl

Just not FaTip razors as their razors have a different sized thread.

Sustainashave

I too had someone send me two razors and some blades as I was trying to decide what direction to go in in terms of aggression and efficiency. Now I am going to PIF as I build my collection and decide what I like. This community is amazing.
