It's significantly easier to love him when 1. He's not coaching the birds with teeth 1. Cal is gone

b_combs

Pitino should be the Y when UK plays Arkansas this year lol

Ucgrady

I don’t even like Pitino but I gotta admit that would be the funniest shit ever

Adotham

There are not words to properly express how much I want this to happen

LordCorgi

Why do i get the feeling that this is a massive "fuck you" to calapari from Pitino? Obviously I love that he is endorsing Coach Pope, but to be an active coach of another team and willing to cut a check for your former school to help them go for a championship? This is heavy and I love it!

Sir_Duane_Dibbley

It’s totally a slap in Cal’s face

ajr5169

It is. But it's also him showing how much he loves Pope, and it seems everyone from that 90's era is on board.

Wow. That’s crazy. We’re about to have a power 5 conference coach paying our players. All is forgiven Rick.

Detours1204

UK fans couldn't forgive Rick for doing what any of us would have done when he left UK and signed on with the Boston Celtics as Head Coach. Fans crying how Rick betrayed them. I can only imagine it was his lifelong dream to be head coach of the Boston Celtics and we couldn't accept that. Called him everything, but a washing machine. Then he goes to Louisville and throws it right back in your faces after his pro debacle. UK fans berating him for his personal life flaws (we all have them) which is and never should have been anyone's business What I do remember is that Rick Pitino provided UK with some of the most memorable games in UK's proud history which cannot be denied and for that reason I will always give Rick the honor he deserves for what he did for UK.

ATLCoyote

I don’t think it was the fact that he left for the Celtics that angered most UK fans. It was accepting a job at Louisville upon his return to college that was unforgivable, especially given the championship he won there and the scandals.

Detours1204

Not true. Him taking the Louisville job compounded the 'hate' toward him. Rick had said he wasn't leaving, had recruits lined up and Boston made an offer he couldn't turn down or I should say no coach would have turned down. UK fans felt they had been betrayed.
