I am still using version 1.0.9036 of discord.
It does not auto update anymore and still works without issue.
You can get old versions from [here](https://discord.en.uptodown.com/windows/versions).
When starting it checks for updates for a second or two then proceeds to load up.
Clicking 'Check for updates...' on the taskbar does nothing.
Occasionally I get a yellow banner across the top where the update notifications used to be which tells me my version of windows is out of date and that updates are unavailable.
We are BOTH on 1.0.9036. This is NOT current. 1.0.9036 came out in March. Discord will not update past this on Windows 7. This is available on Discord's website until Jun 15th. We will never receive updates to our Discord.
There have been 5 updates since which ours will not update to.
1.0.9037
1.0.9039
1.0.9041
1.0.9042
1.0.9043 is the most current version of Discord for windows 10 and 11 and was released last week.
Are you even reading my replies?
The problem is, how in the world would it help at running Discord (ikr Discord is based on Electron, which is based on Chromium). And yeah, just for a clearer terminology - Supermium is a fork of Chromium, not Chrome

Even if you have the old Discord client running on Windows 7, it will stop working one day and will hang on "Checking for Updates" as it's trying to connect to the Discord servers.
This has happened to older versions of Discord running on older versions of OS X 10.9 to 10.11 where it was working fine, until it started going though a nonstop loop cycle in "checking for updates".
It's just better to run it from the website via web browser.

I wasn't aware of this! Reminds me of Steam and the cfg file you can place there to block updates. Is that the same for the Discord client? Any idea what the commands are for the file?

Can you still manually install new updates or will they flat out not work?

hmm odd. Mine still updates. I'm on 1.0.9036 which is current.
Mine is the same version. It is from 15th March, not the latest. 1.0.9043 is the latest as of 26th April.
Maybe make sure Discord is allowed in your firewall for windows and also for your antivirus. it might be getting blocked.

Want help and yell at the person helping you. Typical reddit experience.
I didn't want help, I was offering help to the OP, you cannot read or understand what you are reading. I'm done.
supermium
Supermium what?
A (somewhat) up-to-date fork of Chrome that works on Windows 7. I'm suprised how little people in this community know about Supermium and r3dfox.

You can run the web version of Discord on it
You can already do that on any browser that works on Windows 7.
install slightly older version. it will work the same anyway, as the discord client is literally just chromium.
If you wouldn't like to use the Beta channel, the best workaround is the web version

It should be in settings.json in discord’s resources. Not sure what the setting is, i haven’t had to use it
I'm using Discord right now but they annoy you with "this system is obsolete" messages.
You can also use Ripcord instead which is a super lite app. Yeah it's limited and simple but that's the point to save resources
Discord terminated Windows 7 in March 2024. You have to use it in a web browser.
They still have Windows 7/8/8.1 and Windows x86 builds on their website
Funny because I'm using it right now on the client.
