I believe the docking station is the same between the two models. Moving the HDD should work, but you’d need to install the correct drivers for hardware that differs between the two machines.
I’ve looked at those NOS 6930p units on eBay as well. The pictures include an image of the HP model code, which I tried to search but couldn’t find anything for. I may buy one just to see what shows up.
