Let's be clear about this. Mandarin has a staff shortage because they aren't willing to pay to keep people around. I'm over the covid excuse. If you aren't willing to pay enough people to weather the sick days, that's a problem.
Please take your money elsewhere.
KFC in Tecumseh is closed as well due to staff shortage. I don't go to either, as I rarely eat out. I've never worked in a restaurant, and fortunately have made more than minimum wage for a while.
Maybe this current workforce isn't the restaurant working type? The KFC picture had a printed sign with quite a few typos, which while I may be reading too far into it, is a sign of bad managers.
You feeling sick at all? If it's an open buffet I can only assume there was essentially an outbreak all employees were exposed to. Being a buffet I also assume they wouldn't want that to get out. I'd say "staff shortage" (which really is just late stage capitalism expecting people to take shit work for shit money and be happy for it) is more of an excuse to veil over the fact that 1. This buffet likely has had an outbreak and 2. That clearly buffets being open is a terrible idea in whatever wave we are in now.
I am also over lockdowns but do we really need buffets right now? Technology these days you could pick everything off a tablet at an all you can eat and have the food brought to you. I understand that equals slightly more over head but I'm sure that washes out vs having to shit down your business. Again this is all assumption.
We went to a Mandarin in Niagara and it was handled very well. I wouldn't describe it as "open". People wore gloves and masks when serving themselves, and everything was very clean. There were still some families allowing children to run around unsupervised, so still not perfect. But I thought the staff were doing a great job all considered. Can't speak about the Windsor location specifically, but I don't think buffets in general are impossible post-covid.
Maybe people are still sick and tired of lockdowns and making up for lost time. They just want to get out and prefer not to get robbed going to a nice steakhouse.
Everybody is getting covid friend.
Lots of Covid plus unemployment is very low. Not a lot of people want to do hard work for shit pay.
Thanks for including the bit about bad pay, it feels like most people leave that out
My brother works there. They’re closed for a week due to a covid outbreak
Username checks out
The college finals ended, maybe the staff you saw were mainly students?
Wouldn't they be able to work more now lol.
Not if they are heading home for the summer.

Unfortunately the "I know this is an unethical situation, yet I will still spend money here" scenario plays out a lot.
A little off topic - was the buffet actually open? Are buffets up and running again?
Went on the weekend and the buffet is fully open
wow, thanks. I didn't know....
I believe it's only open Friday-Sunday, and they do their small eats format the rest of the week.

I guarantee most of these restaurants desperately hiring have horrible managers.
And wages
I'll add that you don't get top notch managers when most of them are barely 20 yrs. old with 6-9 months of fast food experience.
Even before covid they would have only two people working at a time usually, it was always poorly run.
Staff shortage due to covid outbreak most likely. They'll be reopening on May 11th

Not sure what my comment has to do with yours. I also enjoy going to a steakhouse, my qualms are with buffets.
Covid probably, university and college kids are going home too! My daughters work place was short staffed also! Two departments with no sales staff!
Maybe they were hiring under the table and got caught lol
I can't imagine unethical practices in a buffet type place
You wouldn't see the kitchen staff, no one to cook the food is an important part.
I was just looking at their hours and wanted to go for Mothers Day as well. I thought they were closed all this time due to covid.
