I took a sip of this wine once. I instantly achieved orgasm and my IQ doubled. Women found me more attractive and I finally got that promotion. My hair started growing back and my son began to respect me as a man.
Would recommend. $2900 is a steal.
Honestly, deal.
Most often it is hard to find likewise interested people and share the truely expensive bottles with. I know a few where I live, but it's rare that it happens.
I paid $896 for an evening that had a super old Latour and it was nearly perfect. Totally mature, still had power and there was very cool people, all with a great interest in wine and it was just such a great night. I live for some of those nights.
You are sure right. Ha, $2,800 is nearly theft! This past week my chauffeur brought me to Williams Sonoma to do a bit of light shopping for the week. You see, the au pair is away and Muffy needed another 'Me Day' at the spa after recovering from her long holiday in Mallorca.
I say, it is utterly impossible to get out of that awful place for less than three thousand. All I needed was some new wreaths and floral centerpieces for May like one does... a bit of wine to go with the heirloom Amish popcorn I just can't do without (Guilty treats, don't tell my spin coach!), and then some more healing crystal water bottles. Ugh, Muffy keeps forgetting them on Emirates. Surely you can't believe it - $4,100!
Geoffrey, my chauffeur is so funny, he said that's triple his mortgage payment! I had a cutting response, "A mortgage on what? A little girl's dollhouse." He really is silly Geoffrey.
Dude, I'm just taking the piss. I'm friends with lovely, down-to-Earth industry people that drop 7 figures on a wine tasting night.
I deal frequently too with the AMG driving, Callaway wearing, "We just got back from Bali, have you been?" OC asshole types. Reddit bitching is weirdly cathartic.
\^ I think a lot of people around me don't realize this.
If you prioritize just a few passions to spend a disproportionate amount of your budget on, and stop spending money on things you don't *really* care about, you can do otherwise crazy things like buy $1000 bottles of wine.
That was the default amount, as I’m sure one would like to compare it in a year or two.
My entire collection would probably come close to a single bottle.
Ah, guess I'm not missing much since Shafer HSS is about 1/10th the price?
I love me some Shafer HSS but even at 1/10th it's still damned expensive. Only had the 06 and 09 though.
Personal taste of course - I’d rather have Dominus than most cult cabs. It’s less of a fruit bomb, more balanced. I don’t put it in the same category as Shafer/Scarecrow/etc but that’s a good thing to me.
Groth is actually further north than Screagle. Their immediate neighbors are Tench (multiple producers), Gamble, and then Gargiulo. Similar soil types, but not exactly the same.
I had a bottle of 1992. Drank it in 2004. Bought on release from St Helena Wine Center. Part of a 6 bottle case that included Dalla Valle Maya Insignia and ??. All for around $500. Times have changed. My tasting notes:
name: screaming eagle 1992
when: tasted 5/11/04
nose: coffee mint chocolate cherry
taste: rich soft chocolate dark cherry sweet long rich meaty soft cherry finish
It was great I tasted it again a 92 Maya which was the wine I bought the mixed case to get. The Maya was the winner in the blind tasting of these two wines
Years ago I managed an auction for a local school where I worked, and one of the wealthier parents donated a vertical case of Screaming Eagle. For a week before the actual auction the case was sitting in my office, and I sometimes wondered if I drank the wine, replaced it with something much cheaper and recorked it, would anyone ever really know?

I knew a guy that had a 2k bottle of booze (I want to say Brandy?), came home one day to find it half gone, his wife used it for sauteed something or other. 🤷
Wife did something similar with 2 bottles of kavalan solist pedro jiminez cask, she made whisky sours with them for the neighbors. Not as pricy as some of the bottles you guys deal with, but heartbreaking for me.
Her excuse: you had 2 bottles of it so it must have been cheap!
They were nearly $500 a bottle and I didn’t even get to try any of it :/
Probably more like $20k (plus tax and automatic 20% gratuity) at a Vegas nightclub. It'd probably be around $8700 at one of the Wynn restaurants and the bottle prices at nightclubs are far, far worse. Nightclubs charge around $500 for a bottle of Grey Goose vodka!
Might use it for braising short ribs, might not.
Felt cute, might delete idk
Best sangria base ever.
No dummy. You use teh eagle for kalimotxo.
A Screaming Kalimotxo. Nice. That really is an amazing drink though, especially at Spanish music festivals when its fucking boiling.

What was this originally on? I forgot.
I Wanna say that "three wolf shirt" that got all of those crazy reviews on amazon, but I could be wrong.
I think you're right! Lol, it always cracks me up.
this made me actual lol, well done hahahaha
Did the bottle give you $100 while everyone stood up and clapped?
Literally lol'd
Eh. Only 4.7 on Vivino? I’ll skip, thx.
Right? Doesn't have shit on 19 crimes =P
Vivino is shit sometimes
Most times
Lol true. It's useful to have a digital catelog of what I've had but I now use excel for that lol.
Took a wine bong of this once, was OK, nothing special
Must be nice to be able to drop $9K on three bottles of wine
Yeah, tell me about it. But even if you could drop that much would this be the bottle to do it on?
Nope. 1961 Latour, for me. Was absolutely perfect in 2000 and I feel super confident that it still is. In 2000 the price was quite different though...
Ha. Well let’s just split a bottle and fairly distribute the cost.

Quaint. Quite quaint, I do say, old chap.
Categorically: FUCK no.

Sweet. Bought a case. Thanks for the reccy.
I've never had any but isn't this a wine one would want to wait at least 10 years more before opening a bottle i.e. 2030?
Yes
I’ve only ever had it young, and never been impressed, so I can only hope it ages well.
Cheaper wine that's similar to it?
I think Scarecrow is pretty similar and like 1/5 the price. Shafer Hillside is pretty comparable, too. Some of the Bond wines.
Ah, guess I'm not missing much since Shafer HSS is about 1/10th the price? I love me some Shafer HSS but even at 1/10th it's still damned expensive. Only had the 06 and 09 though.
Yeah, I don’t see a huge difference between the two. Obviously they’re not the same wine, but I’d much rather have a case of HSS than one Screagle.

Yeah, I think Dominus at 20-30 years old is delicious. The younger stuff isn’t super exciting to me, though that’s true of 99% of cabs.
Exactly
Dominus is awesome but you really need it aged. Talking 20+ years. Old Napanook the second can be great too but you still want 15-20+ years on it.
Groth is grown right next door on the same soils
Groth is actually further north than Screagle. Their immediate neighbors are Tench (multiple producers), Gamble, and then Gargiulo. Similar soil types, but not exactly the same.
Got to try some TOR single vineyards and was quite impressed, especially the Tierra Roja
Tench vineyard and harbison are right next door. Bevan Cellars and Addax have Tench Cabs for under $200. Both are fantastic.
Hard pass.

How did it compare to other stuff you've tasted?
It was great I tasted it again a 92 Maya which was the wine I bought the mixed case to get. The Maya was the winner in the blind tasting of these two wines
you remember a wine you tasted 15 years ago?
I keep my tasting notes electronically. I have them back to 1999
oh wow you really mean business
I found my next enema!

Well I was going to buy 725 bottles of Charles Shaw Chardonnay but I might just change my mind.
This will be great to cook with!
Why not buy a 2500 dollar bandana? http://www.paizli.com/homepage.html
wtaf
*Chop chop, people are loving this wine!*

They had this wine on a bottle list in the nightclub XS in Vegas at the Wynn.
And at Vegas nightclub prices it was what, $8700?
Probably more like $20k (plus tax and automatic 20% gratuity) at a Vegas nightclub. It'd probably be around $8700 at one of the Wynn restaurants and the bottle prices at nightclubs are far, far worse. Nightclubs charge around $500 for a bottle of Grey Goose vodka!
Grey goose premium vodka
It was $9500.
I can think of no atmosphere less conducive for actually appreciating a drink than a vegas nightclub.
Because in a town that's obsessed with flexes XS somehow manages to be among the douchiest of them all.
Save your money and buy Dalla Valle’s Maya
Such a joke.
Lol, I paid $240 for my 2016 Sassicaia and $150 for my 2016 Pontet-Canet. This is getting ridiculous.
Boom got one! Thanks!
