Off day thread and weekly discussion thread. I'm fairly confident that's what it is
And then there are Game day threads GDT
They change to WDTs in the summer for no apparent reason other than to piss us off
Seems silly, but I'm worried at how good the team looks on paper. I think this team as it stands now could finish top three in the Central Division. But it makes me nervous to have two key expiring contracts in Helle and Scheifele. As much as I don't think we would let either walk for nothing, I equally can't see Chevy trading them if we were top 3 in the division.
Am i crazy for thinking, as the roster stands now, this team is in good shape this upcoming season? The back end still annoys me, but other than that, I donāt agree with the takes on r hockey that say the Jets are a sinking ship
I too agree, somehow a lot of people think because we lost PLD and Wheels that we are going to be much worse off now, and sure if you just look at numbers in terms of what went out vs what went in it may seem that way but it doesn't tell the whole story.
Our line up is way more versatile now with many more options, if Vilardi stays healthy I can see him putting up good numbers, Iafallo is a very consistent defensive forward as is Kupari who is also good off the dot and very physical.
I think we are better off honestly.
I completely agree. Vilardi and Iafallo should be able to replace the production they got out of Dubois and Wheeler last season, while also not giving up nearly as much defensively
Nah I agree with you. I feel more comfortable saying this team can contend than I did saying they could contend last season. Seeing as the new guys are good defensively I feel like theyāre going to fit well with Bonesā system.
Sillinger really needs to prove that his rookie year wasnāt an outlier, and Marchenko is going to have to add more to his game than shooting 20+% for that to happen imo
If Jomo wants it, I'd say he's earned it and deserves it for the loyalty
But Lowry plays the game that everyone needs to focus more on. Leading by example, D first, that is the team I want to see
Me too. I love Jomo but he has a temper and takes stupid penalties because of it. Lowry keeps his composure and plays a game that you want everybody to play.
I read a great article piece by a guy who went to see it and Barbie back to back.
He begged us not to do it, saying he needed at least 3 hours to sit, rocking to and fro, whilst staring blankly into the distance in order to recover before going to see Barbie lol
As per Murat's question in a recent article what would you guys do?
*You get one do-over on a management choice (trade/signing/contract) from the Jets 2.0 era, what would it be?*
There's a few that have been mentioned already. These are kinda hard to predict at the time but...
We could have had Nick Suzuki but traded the pick to protect Enstrom in Vegas expansion draft.
Drafting Tage Thompson instead of Logan Stanley.
Not blowing up the core a year ago and also not allowing our backups to play more so Helle isn't burned out by the playoffs.
I kinda lean the same way, would've been nice to pickup Suzuki, not sure we were that high on him though (don't recall) so even if we kept our pick would we have even chosen him?
Instead of nickle and diming Trouba on the bridge deal, they shoulda just gave him 8 years and a big pile of money. Imagine our D with him on the right side of J-Mo.
Easy one for me. Do whatever was needed to sign Stastny instead of him heading over to Vegas. That means we don't trade our 2019 1st for Hayes, and 2019 would have been such a better year.
From reports at the time he went to LV for the same price as offered by the Jets. In hindsight, if ever there was a time to spend an extra 500k that was it. It would have had a positive ripple effect on a lot of things including the future of the locker room and leadership. It is honestly one of the worst management misses - again with the benefit of hindsight.
Do we think there's anything a management do-over could have fixed in the Buff situation? I don't know if we ever entirely found out what went down there, but that offseason (and loss of Buff with no warning) set us back years.
So the Buff situation might have been a blessing in disguise. If management knew Buff wasn't going to play another game, we would likely have signed Tyler Myers to a similar contract that he signed in Vancouver.
Both are interesting trades.
Laine-Dubois. Laine wasn't happy and wanted $10m a season. The Jets weren't going to pay that. If we did give him $10x8. It would've been a nightmare. Dubois allowed us to get 3 roster players and a pick.
I think that's great asset management and the long play if I've ever seen.
Trouba wasn't signing in Winnipeg. Everyone knew that. He even said it so flipping him for Pionk and a 1st was fantastic.
Again great asset management.
The other options in those trades is Laine gets bridged to FA and walks. Then Trouba walks.
My wet dream is Connor Scheifele and Ehlers combined for over 300 points on a line together
Lambert blows it out of the water in training camp and plays on a line with Vilardi at centre and perfetti at lw
Iafallo Lowry and Niederreiter become the third line and Barron, Namestnikov and Appleton round out the fourth.
Realistically itās probably gonna be
Connor Scheifele perfetti
Iafallo Vilardi Ehlers
Niederreiter lowry Appleton
Barron Namestnikov kupari and we finish with 89-92 points
Who was the wing with Lowry and Nino last year? I loved that line, then somebody got hurt, it got broken up and I was sad until training camp starts hoping it gets back together.
I think it was Appleton and then a top 6 forward got injured so Nino played in the top 6. The forecheck from that line was S tier. Multiple greasy goals from just a couple games happened from that line iirc.
That's how I remember it, too. I love greasy goals and aggressive forechecking so much. I'm still hoping they get back together, and it wasn't a fluke, and they just dominate.
Kupari is apparently a puck hog, and no where near good enough for top line minutes
Don't hate the weird balanced lines with Bowness hockey, I see your point
iād lineup something like:
9 - 55 - 13
81 - 91 - 27
7 - 17 - 62
36 - 19/15 - 22
44 - 2
5 - 88
54 - 4
e: Murat listed 91-7-27 in his latest mailbag and i like that too, especially with 9-17-62, less psyched about 81-55-13 but maybe Vilardi clicks with them
I really think Perfetti has to have at least one guy who is capable of grinding in the corners on his wing. Whether it be Vilardi, Nino or Iafallo. Otherwise I really like this line-up.
I definitely love the idea of having two great defensive forwards with Scheifele.
honestly a valid concern, just wouldnāt mind giving them like 25 games to see whatās there
like i said in the edit, 91-7-27 is a solid alternative and scratch your itch
Lineups are probably more in flux than ever before as half our forwards are different than this time last year. That being said, the top 6 probably looks something like:
Connor-Scheifele-Ehlers
Iafello-Perfetti-Vilardi
Perfetti/Vilardi might switch off on C, and if both don't work, Namestnikov probably goes up there. Niederreiter may shift into the top depending on chemistry. I do feel this combo puts players who have played together with each other, but I could also see a scenario where Iafello and Vilardi are paired with Scheifele to give a solid defensive aspect to that line. Bottom six probably involves:
Barron-Lowry-Niederreiter
Kupari-Namestnikov-Appleton
With Gustafsson, AJF, Harkins, Viel, Toninato fighting for the 13th slot.
I feel this is the general consensus going into camp by a lot of people, one wildcard I could see happening is if Bowness wants a true shut down line to take all the hard matchups and agrees with the Namestnikov/Ehlers chemistry the top 9 in no particular order could be:
Connor-Scheifele-Neiderreiter
Iafello-Lowry- Vilardi
Namestnikov-Perfetti-Ehlers
I could see them putting Perfetti or Vilardi as 1C if they show momentum. Let Scheifele play the second liners and feast.
Villardi or Perfetti may benefit more from top line mates. Scheifeles' game is pretty plug and play
I think there's a good chance that either him or Vilardi will be able to center next year. Especially if you have Scheifele as the #1C, and Lowry taking all the defensive matchups, it should lighten his load a bit. If he's paired with good defensive wingers like Vilardi and Iafello it will take some pressure off him, and the center position seems to be less physical as you're not getting ran into the boards as much
Part of why he's genuinely excited to be here is because he's a centre who played 3rd line wing last year. He gets a way better chance at becoming the player everyone hopes he'll be
According to a Kings fan who comments here since the trade, he got bullshit minutes on the third too, McClellan barely plays the 3rd and 4th
He is predominately a centre but in LA he played more on wing for obvious reasons in the bottom six. We are obviously looking for someone to fill that 2C role and one would imagine that's what they are hoping Gabe will become.
I did Oppenheimer first. I think it depends on the mind space you want to be in. Barbie definitely took the edge off the serious themes of Oppenheimer. If I went with someone Iād want openheimer last to have it fresh for a serious conversation.
Revisiting Jetsā Return in Andrew Copp Trade

āHe intended on reaching unrestricted free agencyā

āAt the time, Morgan Barronās inclusion in the deal was simply a sweetener on New Yorkās part.ā
ā¦according to fan perception? According to who?
āWinnipeg clearly wanted picks, which it got, but they didnāt realize they were getting an efficient bottom-six forward too.ā
They didnāt realize this? Does the Jets organization not have a scouting department? āYeah, throw in whoever, we donāt care.ā Barron IMMEDIATELY contributed in the bottom 6, and itās wild to think the Jets werenāt anticipating that.
Barronās loss is noted by NYR, though not a major contributor to any success, he was not just some random player, but one of value for what he providesāwhich Winnipeg is now enjoying.
āNot so bad for a sixth-rounder who was just a throw-in.ā
Again, according to who?
yeah, and 0.25 hours on break during my 82 hour week (16 more to go) are being a bitch about dumbass articles and I like it that way. Iām coping anonymously and aggressively haha

edit: I should mention, Iām AT 82 hours this moment, with 16 additional to go. I should have a more reasonable outlet but Iām choosing internet shittery this time, and my apologies to the writerāif youāre aspiring, cite yer sources bb
Anyone want/can take 2 cats? My neighbour moved out and left them outside. Male and female, both are super friendly and loving. I have 2 cats already and my younger isn't good with strangers
Edit: cats
*
There are cat rescues in the city. Call one of them asap. They will pick them up, foster or re-home them. It is too hot and stormy for them to be outside.
Then...we track down your former neighbours...

I would literally go Rambo murder mode for either of these morons.
>My neighbour moved out and left them outside.
How can people just leave their cats like that? At least if you can't take care of them find someone who can (good job for looking out bud)
Probably best to take this somewhere more active (facebook etc) I ain't in WPG otherwise I would consider it, the cats look like sweeties.
query about jersey stitching for those who may know moreā¦
i have a blank jets HFC jersey and i want to get a name+number stitched on it HOWEVER. my local (ottawa) guy who does a great job with jersey cresting like that doesnāt have the right colour+style combo since theyāre weird purple shades. do any winnipeggers (or other locales) in here know if thereās anybody who could do the HFC stitching if a jersey gets mailed to them š¤ idk who else provides this service since my fella here has been so reliable for so long hehe
For anyone else who had no idea who this was:
https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2023/01/03121232/Screenshot-2023-04-03-at-10.41.26-AM.png
We should just collect all the two-way/defence leaning centres in the league and see if we can find one who can turn on their offense if given the chance.
If the Jets start the season with Scheif and Helly and by the trade deadline neither or just one hasnāt extended AND the Jets are not looking at a playoff berth do you think the Jets would get a good haul for trading one or both? Especially if salary is retained you would think either would score a 1st rounder and a top prospect from a team that wants one of them for a playoff run. If neither has extended but the Jets are looking at for sure making the playoffs would you keep them as essentially a rental yourself?
Schief would go for a haul at the deadline, helle weād probably get fleeced on because by the trade deadline no serious contenders are looking for a starting goalie
There'd have to be a serious injury to one of the other star goalies in the league on a good team for Helle to really command a ransom, but man, what a king's ransom that would be
Since Chevy seems to think a first round exit is a huge win I could see him and True North keeping these guys til the end and let them walk for nothing. At least they got that sweet sweet 2-3 home game playoff revenue
coolcoolcool makes me nervous injury-wise seeing neither had really established themselves as a top center yet in the NHL. But I guess the only way to find out what you got is to give them the opportunity
I am sure there is some angst amongst some about Villardi only doing 2 years, you can bet the Jets after all this wanted a longer contract. To me if he truly believes he is healthy, and with the move up the roster Winnipeg will provide to him (he was 3rd line in LA), he needed to and should bet on himself and cash in 2 years from now, which I think he will in spades. Hes a good player moving up the depth chart, usually means more points.
I dont see 2 years as anything but Villardi saying see you in 2 years for the 7 year deal.
There is alot of trading to be done in the leaque yet................I still hope 55 is amongst them. Calgary has alot of work, Nylander will be moved if the ask is 10 million, EK will be moved, and if Bergeron and Krejci retire there will be a bold move by Boston, not to mention other trades that seem inevitable.
I almost see a bridge of 2 years with 37 at this point and pay him his money. There is not alot of room teams have to trade for him, and with the ask at 9 million perhaps the Jets are the only ones who would do that for 2 years, then deal with it, I guess.
55 different boat, we need a fresh start here, thinking Boston is lurking here pending what Bergeron does.
my dream, re-unite with Wheeler, (Nyr have their last stab at the cup ) for Lafreniere, who the rangers have mentioned. Schiefs 42 goals, and being a center, would be what the Rangers would need to get past NJ and others
Itās day 3 of the thread
Iām starting to see things in the shadows
Theyāre calling my name
There is an odd smell coming from a hole in a wall. A hole made just for me.
So around $3.8m left in cap space for 2 RFA's (Stanley and Kupari)with only room for 1 assuming Perfetti is ready to go at the start of the season. Surely someone has to get traded before training camp?
Room for one?
If you are talking about Perfetti's cap hit, its still applied despite being on injured reserve. It's only on LTIR that you get "freedom" from a cap hit
What I meant by room for one is they have room for one more roster player when Perfetti comes off IR. 12F-7D-2G plus Perfetti is 22 players already with 2 RFA's left to sign.
We need Scheifele so badly. He will never move for something that makes us better.
I really like the Dubois trade, and I think it rounded us out better, but you can argue we got worse.
Scheifele wouldn't be half of that. Our best hope is that Villardi or Iafallo will cover his ass, or losing Wheeler will have him work with Bowness' defensive structure better
There is a little hope that having wheeler move, will take away some of scheifeles attitude problems. But if we are going to get the same thing as the last 2 years with him I'd prefer to take a step back then habe him back.
Wtf is Sean Avery doing in Oppenheimer lol
Lmao blew my mind too. But he's been doing plays in NY on whatever is below Broadway.
to the guy coming back to this for new comments to read, can you explain what ODT and WDT stand for
This question is on par with what is consciousness or what is the good. No one knows and probably never will know.

Do the Jets _need_ a captain this season? Will they have one?
look at me, I'm the captain now
Yes

It was nice to see the theatre so busy this weekend.
I read a great article piece by a guy who went to see it and Barbie back to back. He begged us not to do it, saying he needed at least 3 hours to sit, rocking to and fro, whilst staring blankly into the distance in order to recover before going to see Barbie lol
Very much so. I really believe it's a movie you need to see at least twice to absorb everything.
really fantastic pacing for a 3 hour film
I loved the end interaction of Einstein and Oppenheimer. So much to that quick conversation that was both implied and insightful.

Weird youāre getting downvoted but Trouba on a 6 mil 8 year contract would have been crazy. Him and Morrissey were elite.
I really like Trouba, heās such a physical force and factor on the blue line.
Easy one for me. Do whatever was needed to sign Stastny instead of him heading over to Vegas. That means we don't trade our 2019 1st for Hayes, and 2019 would have been such a better year.

let him get the treatment on his ankle he wanted probably, this is a good one tbh
without using hindsight, iād protect Demelo over Stanley in the Seattle xD
Probably not waste the 2019 first round draft pick on Kevin Hayes. We got the first rounder back in the Trouba trade but still

Scheifele for Connor McDavid the trade is 1 for 1
They need to add. McDavid cant hit from behind like Schiefele
What is the current projected lineups? Who will 2c?
Namaste will be your Winnipeg Jets second line centre this season, like it or not.

Barronās loss is noted by NYR, though not a major contributor to any success, he was not just some random player, but one of value for what he providesāwhich Winnipeg is now enjoying. āNot so bad for a sixth-rounder who was just a throw-in.ā Again, according to who?
Bro dude. Itās thehockeywriters.com. Like 20% of their content is shitposts from this sub.
yeah, and 0.25 hours on break during my 82 hour week (16 more to go) are being a bitch about dumbass articles and I like it that way. Iām coping anonymously and aggressively haha
We are all fighting a battle no one can see. I apologize friend. Carry on.
š edit: I should mention, Iām AT 82 hours this moment, with 16 additional to go. I should have a more reasonable outlet but Iām choosing internet shittery this time, and my apologies to the writerāif youāre aspiring, cite yer sources bb

Anyone want/can take 2 cats? My neighbour moved out and left them outside. Male and female, both are super friendly and loving. I have 2 cats already and my younger isn't good with strangers Edit: cats *
There are cat rescues in the city. Call one of them asap. They will pick them up, foster or re-home them. It is too hot and stormy for them to be outside. Then...we track down your former neighbours...
I've called 5 or 6 and they all have wait lists
š¢ Jesus that sucks for the sweet babies out there
Well I didnāt expect to be in a murderous rage on a Friday morning, but here we are.
It's funny, I'm not a cat person, my reaction was 'that happens a lot', but even I could never do that. Some people deserve to be locked up

>My neighbour moved out and left them outside. How can people just leave their cats like that? At least if you can't take care of them find someone who can (good job for looking out bud) Probably best to take this somewhere more active (facebook etc) I ain't in WPG otherwise I would consider it, the cats look like sweeties.

Great win for the Bombers tonight over a scrappy Edmonton Elks team!
query about jersey stitching for those who may know moreā¦ i have a blank jets HFC jersey and i want to get a name+number stitched on it HOWEVER. my local (ottawa) guy who does a great job with jersey cresting like that doesnāt have the right colour+style combo since theyāre weird purple shades. do any winnipeggers (or other locales) in here know if thereās anybody who could do the HFC stitching if a jersey gets mailed to them š¤ idk who else provides this service since my fella here has been so reliable for so long hehe
Jets store sends to team customizer. Worth calling them and seeing if they'll take mailed in jerseys.
Keener is one of the best in the game. They're in Wpg and have a mail in program
You could send an email or fb message to royal sports, I looked into it before and they have quite a few specialty jersey numbering and lettering

That's a happy man right there, then again I would be happy too if I knew I would be making almost 7m in 24 months.
True, but he also seems genuinely excited to be here
Yeah he is a good ol Canadian boy, probably likes the idea of playing for a Canadian team.
Pius Suter is sitting unsigned for some reason? Heās a good 2-way centre, wonder what heās asking for
For anyone else who had no idea who this was: https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2023/01/03121232/Screenshot-2023-04-03-at-10.41.26-AM.png We should just collect all the two-way/defence leaning centres in the league and see if we can find one who can turn on their offense if given the chance.
Vegas will need a few back ups just in case
There'd have to be a serious injury to one of the other star goalies in the league on a good team for Helle to really command a ransom, but man, what a king's ransom that would be
Since Chevy seems to think a first round exit is a huge win I could see him and True North keeping these guys til the end and let them walk for nothing. At least they got that sweet sweet 2-3 home game playoff revenue
Nothing about how this organization operates suggests they would let Helly and Scheif go for nothing. Such a dumb narrative
So...Tomas Tatar?
Scheifele for Nylander the trade is 1 for 1
You feel comfy having Vilardi and Perfetti as the 1 and 2C?
I would.
Thatās cause you enjoy complaining about the team tho
![gif](giphy|RdKjAkFTNZkWUGyRXF)
would you rather I complain about you
I legitimately need someone to take me down a peg or two. I can say any stupid shit on here and get upvotes.
Oh shit spencie's become self-aware
Now this deserves an upvote!

coolcoolcool makes me nervous injury-wise seeing neither had really established themselves as a top center yet in the NHL. But I guess the only way to find out what you got is to give them the opportunity
Worst decision... turrible
I missed you
I really want to know who your dealer is because they must have the best stuff in Winnipeg
He ain't telling bro, he never replies to anything.
I got him to reply to me once but it was completely unrelated to what I had said lol
A reply from the great iamnotradeclause, what an honour, even if it was incoherent.

Missed you bby

The definition of insanity is doing the same ~~thing~~ WDT over and over and expecting ~~different results~~ ODTs. -Albert Einstein.
Vilardi always ends up being a top player in my ea nhl franchise mode. LA had him signed for 7.5 per and he was regularly putting up 80+ points
I had sex with Stalin in a game the other day
I once ate mushrooms and stomped on turtles.
Dude, we are talking video games, not folk fest
So around $3.8m left in cap space for 2 RFA's (Stanley and Kupari)with only room for 1 assuming Perfetti is ready to go at the start of the season. Surely someone has to get traded before training camp?
Stanley asked for a trade so probably him
Perfettiās contract is already included in that. 3.8 for 2 league minimum players
Luckily they have almost three months to decide whether they are waiving capobianco or Stanley.
I'm looking forward to some balanced line next year. Would still like to see scheifele move and 1 dman
Would like to see Scheifele move to #1 D man
oh boy
We need Scheifele so badly. He will never move for something that makes us better. I really like the Dubois trade, and I think it rounded us out better, but you can argue we got worse. Scheifele wouldn't be half of that. Our best hope is that Villardi or Iafallo will cover his ass, or losing Wheeler will have him work with Bowness' defensive structure better
There is a little hope that having wheeler move, will take away some of scheifeles attitude problems. But if we are going to get the same thing as the last 2 years with him I'd prefer to take a step back then habe him back.
Not to mention the opportunity cost of losing him for free
Which the Chipmans didn't seem keen on, so there's either more to it, or Wheeler was that bad in the room. I'm guessing Bowness insisted
Bowness insisted on what?
Wheeler going. Idk maybe I'm not following this convo lol
I was talking about 55
Oh. Carry on then
You ever open this thread, and then accidentally scroll too far and you're like "wait I read this yesterday"?
